Martha BaumMartha Baum has been painting the coast of
Maine for more than 20 years. Her colorful and confident works of art are exhibited in Maine, Colorado, Florida, and North Carolina. She currently paints and teaches in her studio in Bath, Maine.
“My process begins behind the camera lens. Intense observation of line, shape, and color yields creative sparks that are the beginnings of paintings. I chase and record water, movement, light, and reflection. Later, in the studio, these elements are translated into new realities on canvas that evoke the natural beauty surrounding us.” Martha

Fine art painter, John Bowdren graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He settled in Maine after traveling the U.S. and Europe. John paints in oils, acrylics, watercolor and woodblock. He sculpts in wood and metal for inside and out.
“The coastal scene in Maine is my inspiration, full of Ah-Ha moments. The setting sun picking out trees and boats on the water and early morning calmness before the sea breeze kicks in. Finding the echo of people’s presence brings an interesting composition to the canvas and the fusing of color and light to share my reaction with the viewer.” John

Catherine BreerCatherine Breer studied painting at the Atlanta
College of Art and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She has exhibited widely throughout New England, including a show in 2005 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her work is vibrant, colorful and full of life.
“Life speeds by like the blur out of a car window. Children grow, seasons change, love is lost and renewed again. I want to capture the ordinary moments of life. For it is in these ordinary moments, for a fleeting second, that the extraordinary suddenly appears. I want to see them, capture them and keep them in my heart.” Catherine

Sukie CurtisSukie Curtis’ brightly-colored, playful paintings
exude a joyful energy as they celebrate her delight in familiar, everyday things: radishes, pears and peaches. Sukie paints in oil and lives in Cumberland, Maine.
“ ‘Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.’ These words by Mary Oliver are a good description of my approach to painting. I begin with delight in the colors, shapes and patterns of fruits, vegetables, clouds, and flowers, and in paint! Each painting is a small adventure, a process of exploration and discovery, openness to “happy accidents” and new ways of celebrating life in paint.” Sukie

Award-winning artist Suzanne deLesseps is passionate about painting the landscape in pastels and oils. She travels in Maine and the western U.S. as well as in France and Italy.
“As an artist, my work is always evolving and changing as I set new goals and discover new ways to interpret the landscape. I paint en plein air as often as possible to gather the information that later serves as inspiration for more intuitive painting and experimentation in the studio. Here the actual process of painting becomes the main objective. The outcome is unknown and that’s what makes it exciting!” Suzanne

kdb-Karen Dominguezkdb–Karen Dominguez has exhibited in fine
art galleries all along the east coast. She works in oil and acrylic as well as photography, assemblage and encaustic. Her colorful, powerful yet inviting imagery is equally impressive within her small or large scale works.
“I am inspired by the natural world. The shapes, patterns, colors and forms have been making their way into my artist endeavors in many different mediums. Often times it is a fusing of these mediums that are incorporated into a finished piece. Studying nature and creating a visual narrative is the magic that fills my dream world, day and night.” Karen

William Hallett’s earliest memories are of his childhood years growing up in Mexico City. The unforgettable vivid, intense colors and exotic atmosphere now come boldly through on his canvas. Being awed by the old masters in Europe as a young man inspired him, but, the final impetus came from his father-in-law Peter Geist’s encouragements here in Maine on Matinicus Island. Now you’ll find Williams work in many fine art galleries along the east coast.
“Color stimulates me the most. I see infinite possibilities between shadow and light creating a particular mood and atmosphere that play on the landscape and architecture of Maine.” William

Her work includes landscapes of her favorite coastal haunts in Maine, travel destinations elsewhere in the U.S. and Europe, and paintings of still life and figure subjects.

“The focus of my work is the Maine landscape. I look for places that elicit both a sense of rest and rejuvenation while paying attention to the fluid effects of radiant energy on land, water and air. Acclaimed artist Joelle Levallet-Feldman was born and raised in Normandy, France. She started painting in watercolor and added pastels and oils a few years later in her 20-year career. She paints en plein air and in her studio. Both settings provide her with different opportunities to capture a subject and moment. She also teaches and offers workshops.
“Light, alignment, vibrant color and simplicity are typical of my work. I focus on natural elements, plants, fruits, and vignettes of daily life. The landscapes and architecture of my native France and New England home are also frequent subjects.” Joelle

Anne MacleodCelebrated pastel artist Anne Macleod started
her career out of a four-year program at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She is an award-winning pastel painter throughout the U.S. and travels abroad to capture the essence of French impressions in Provence and beyond.
“As a realistic landscape and still-life painter, I thoroughly enjoy painting en plein air in the summertime and in studio during the colder months. I love how pastels are very forgiving. This allows me the opportunity to discover and create the balance between light and dark, form and texture.” Anne

Elizabeth Newman is a self-motivated, self-taught artist. She has exhibited her work in fine galleries throughout New England. After early beginnings in watercolor, pastels and acrylics she has found her love to be in oils on canvas. She’s always perfecting and experimenting, as with the “gathered canvases” which are amazingly complicated yet a simple exploration of sculptural form and compatible color.
“Paint what moves you and move with the paint. Stay open and explore the possibilities, allow what you hear and see to become works of art through your hands and paintbrushes.” Beth

Chris NielsenChris Nielsen began painting at the age of sixteen
and never looked back. His work is impressionistic in style and captures the beauty and serenity of simple outdoor scenes. He works in oil on canvas and has limited edition prints available as well.
“I paint things that I feel get passed by everyday without much thought or appreciation. I look for scenes that are full of simplistic, peaceful solitude, natural light and vibrant color. En plein air I try to capture the moments, in their seasons that are all too brief. I find myself in the most unlikely places painting the most incredible views.” Chris

Andrea Sawyer paints the effects of light transformed by the Atlantic Ocean on waterfront buildings and white ironstone diner mugs. Her intimate small oils and larger format streetscapes speak of a trendless and timeless human presence.
“I practice painting as meditation, putting on the canvas precisely what the subject says to me, without judgment or filter. My words to live by, “Show up, pay attention, tell the truth, don’t get attached to the results.” Convey not only my world view but my painting discipline. I split my time between Southern Maine and Provincetown MA; I cannot love or paint where I can’t smell salt in the air.” Andrea

Sandi Ste. GeorgeSandi Ste. George, mosaic and pen & ink artist,
studied art at Georgia State University and The Chicago Institute of Art. She co-owned a seasonal gallery in Harpswell, Maine, for ten years, and is in the process of proposing and designing a community mosaic in her neighborhood in Portland.
“When I moved to Maine almost 20 years ago, I was primarily working in pen & ink. But hours of walking on the beach and collecting shells, rocks, broken glass, pottery and other beach debris, changed all that. People began adding to my collection of broken dishes, stained glass, and cracked or leftover tile. It gives me great pleasure to use these found and recycled objects to create a piece of art.” Sandi

Lois Strickland has been painting fulltime since 1996. Her paintings reside in private and public collections nationwide and internationally. She has exhibited her works of art in many fine galleries and is co-founder and president of Bradbury Mountain Arts Guild.
“Painting is a way for me to preserve those places and subjects that I am drawn to. When I was a young child my father, an avid naturalist, taught me to observe and take in the beauty and sensory images that abound. I seek to capture and share my impressions of the forms, colors and light as I have seen and experienced it.” Lois

from UMO and continued her studies in painting at Maine College of Art. She taught painting, sculpture, and ceramics at Yarmouth High School for 22 years. She has been featured in fine galleries throughout southern Maine and is currently a board member of Yarmouth Arts.
“My work in gouache is on smooth hot press rag paper and casein on panel. Both are water-based paint which offers a richness of color. I love the spaces in between in the landscape. Bare branches with color and light in the distance, roots on the ground, the calligraphy of bark all draw my eye.” Anne
