Welcome to Week 4! (April 27-May1) Welcome back! We will focusing on Poetry for the month of May! Poetry is a fun and creative way to practice our creative writing skills. It's also a wonderful way to express emotions and create vivid imagery using Figurative Language. This month you will be creating your very own Poetry Book filled with a collection of poems from an AMAZING writer, YOU! Our main writing focus will be Poetry this month, but you should still have a novel that you can read every day. Remember, you should be reading every day. At least 20 minutes is a good place to start. We will also be focusing on Figurative Language this month. This week we will be looking at similes and metaphors . These two types of Figurative Language are very important and used a lot in writing poetry. When you create your poems this week, try hard to use similes and metaphors in your work. We will be looking at the Interior Plains region in Social Studies and there is a beautiful Perspective Art project you can try out after learning about our Home Region! As always, your teachers are a call, message or Edmodo away. You can contact us for assistance any time during office hours from 10:30-3:00 and on Friday, 10:30-11:30. (Or if you just want to check in and chat!)

Welcome to Week 4! (April 27-May1)

Welcome back! We will focusing on Poetry for the month of May! Poetry is a fun and creative way to practice our

creative writing skills. It's also a wonderful way to express emotions and create vivid imagery using Figurative

Language. This month you will be creating your very own Poetry Book filled with a collection of poems from an

AMAZING writer, YOU!

Our main writing focus will be Poetry this month, but you should still have a novel that you can read every

day. Remember, you should be reading every day. At least 20 minutes is a good place to start.

We will also be focusing on Figurative Language this month. This week we will be looking at similes and metaphors.

We will be looking at the Interior Plains region in Social Studies and there is a beautiful Perspective Art project

Get those creative writing ideas flowing!

Remember to keep reading every day! If you have brothers or sisters who also need the computer, you can always do DEAR (drop everything and read). Another option is to journal. If you don't have a journal yet, this is a perfect time to start this. It is a great place to pour your thoughts and feelings. Or write a letter to someone, even if you don't mail it, just get writing!___________________________________________________________________

You should already have your May novel started. When you finish your novel, choose another one to start a new reading adventure!

Some ideas where to get books:Lots of free on-line booksSwap with your brother or sisterNeighborhood mini library—Little Free Library (also a great place for you to share your books)Pick up a book with your groceries at Walmart or Costco!

Creating your Poetry Book

Starting your Poetry BookBy the end of May we are hoping you will have your very own beautiful poetry book to share with your family.

We would also love to see you post pictures of your work along the way.

Please decide what type of Poetry book you would like to create.

Some ideas are:

1. Decorate a notebook using paint, tape, markers, etc. Use your imagination.2. Use your coil notebook, decorate the cover3. Tie your poetry worksheet together with yarn.4. add your loose-leaf pages or printed poem template to a duotang. Decorate the cover.5. simply staple the poetry worksheets together and create a decorated cover for a title page.
