Reflections on the Gospel In today’s gospel Jesus declared, “I am the Bread life. He who comes to me shall not hunger. And He who believes in me shall never thirst.” Bread is synonymous with food. When the Bible says ‘Give us today our daily bread, it means give us today our

daily food. Bread essentially does three functions to life.Bread Nourishes Life:Bread nourishes human life. Without bread, life would come to a grinding halt. It facilitates all human activity. It is the source of all our energy. It makes us work and play, sing and sail. It is the essential ingredient of life.Bread Perpetuates Life:Human beings would not be alive if it were not for food. Bread not only nourishes life but also propagates and perpetuates life. Life continues from one generation to the next because of bread. Life is eternalized because of Bread. There are the three basic functions of bread. When Jesus declared that He is the Bread of life, He appropriated to Himself these three functions of bread. As bread nourishes life, so does Jesus. As bread relishes life, so does Jesus. As bread perpetuates life, so does Jesus.Jesus Nourishes Life:Jesus is the source of our energy. He nour-ishes us through the Eucharist. In Jn6:51He said, “I am bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live for-ever and the bread that I give is my flesh.” When they heard this some of the disciples stopped following Him. Again Jesus contin-ued, “Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you (Jn6:53).” In the Eucharist Jesus is truly, really and substantially present. He nourishes us through the Eucharist.Jesus Perpetuates Life:Jesus gives immortality. He once said to the Jews, “Your fathers ate manna in the desert and died, but the bread that I give is the bread come down from heaven and if you eat this bread you will life forever.” Talking about the victory of Jesus over death, St. Paul mocked death thus, “Oh Death, where is thy sting. Oh! Death, where is thy victory.” He who believes in Jesus will live forever, even though he dies.As bread nourishes, relishes and perpetuates life, so does Jesus. For He is the bread of life, and he who comes to Him shall not hunger, and he who believes in Him shall never thirst.God Bless you all, Father A. C. John Peter

This Monday, August 6th, is the Transfiguration of the Lord. While Jesus was praying on top of a mountain, in the presence of Peter, James and John, his face began to shine like the sun and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly, he was talking with Moses and Elijah, also in heavenly glory. This remarkable event, as another proof of Jesus’ identity, escalated even higher when the voice of God came from a cloud saying, “This is My Be-loved Son, whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

Wednesday, August 8th, is the Memorial of St. Dominic (11701221), priest and founder of the Dominican Order.

Parents, being a parent is your most difficult job in life, and most important. Using your love, discipline and guidance is all part of God’s Plan in teaching His Children. One important way of teaching His Chil-dren, that are in your care, is holding them accountable, with small things and then working up to bigger things. It teaches them how to be respon-sible, how to share, and how to sacrifice. Here are some examples of holding them accountable:“I love you so much that I’m giving you this daily chore.” (Making their bed, Cleaning their room, Setting the table, Doing the dishes, Cleaning the house, Helping with laundry, Taking out the gar-bage, Pulling weeds, Mowing the lawn, Abiding by the time limit on gaming, Turning in their cell phone every night at bedtime, or Whatever needs to be done according to their age.)“Yes, you need to write a note to your aunt and uncle.” (In this world of emailing and texting, children need to understand that gratitude and sympathy sometimes requires the written word or some personal gesture. They also need to know how important it is to help others, along with visiting the sick and elderly. Giving of their time and talents will spill over into adulthood.) “It’s your grandparents’ anniversary, so you’ll have to miss the game.” (Commitment to sports is important, but children should not grow up thinking that their extracurriculars top everything else. All con-flicts need to have a priority, thus teaches them what sacrifice is all about. Sometimes, on the other hand, a game requires missing a family event. Whatever the case, their disappointment will finally turn into un-derstanding that sacrifice is always worth it, for themselves, for others, and for God.)So Parents, this job, though challenging, is completely achievable. Above all, remember that you are working with God, so always pray for the guidance and decisionmaking you need as a parent!

A Child’s Prayer: A mother had been teaching her three year old daugh-ter how to say the “Our Father” at bedtime each night. Finally, one night the daughter decided to try it alone. Her mother listened with pride as her daughter carefully pronounced each word, right up to the end of the pray-er when she said, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us some Email. Amen.”

Happy Parenting to all the Parents of our Students!
