"YES" is the organization of our youth in St Therese's that has been introduced in the last bulletin and now is making its first baby steps. This Sunday the Officers will be commissioned after the liturgy of God's Word during the Mass at 12:00 pm. We not only wish them the best, but we are praying for them and advising them. The program of activities will be presented in time. However the most important is their enthusiasm. In the culture of minimalism when we ask ourselves: "what is the least I can do" instead of "what is the greatest thing I can do" it sounds good that people treasure the fire of giving, sharing, generosity and abundance. But this authentic joy that sets up lasting enthusiasm and happiness is a narrow path of Jesus Christ that is contrary to the culture we live in and can be found only in the Gospel. This is good we are hungry for, but we have to pray for endurance in growth.

"YES" es la organizacion de nuestros jovenes en la parroquia de Santa Teresita, que fue anunciada en el boletin pasado y hace los pasos primeros. En este domingo los Ministros se juramentaran durante la Santa Misa, despues de la liturgia de la Palabra de Dios, a las 12:00 de la tarde. Deseamos muchos felicitaciones y tambien oramos por ellos y los ha-cemos consejos. Sus actividades se presentaran. Sin embargo, mas importante es su entusiasmo. En la cultura del minimalismo cuando preguntamos "que es minimo que puedo hacerlo" en vez de "que es lo grande que puedo hacerlo", esta muy bien que la gente tiene deseos ardientes de entrega, compar-timiento, generosidad y abundancia. Pero este gozo autentico que nos da el entusiasmo y la felicidad duradera es el sendero estrecho de Jesucristo que es el opuesto de la cultura nuestra y puede buscarse solo en el Evangelio. Este es hambre bueno. Nece-sitamos orar por la fuerza del crecimiento.

Parishioners at both St. Therese and St. Anthony Parishes are invited to join a new “Book Club” that is forming which will offer an opportunity to read and discuss books that present the richness and diversity of our church’s greatest traditions. We are calling this club ‘St. Jerome Institute of Learning’, inspired by St. Jerome, the prolific translator of the Bible. Books will be selected by the group and, under the direction of Fr. Andrew, we will meet bi-weekly at St. Therese Parish on Thursday mornings after the 8:30 Mass to discuss the assigned reading. We will be reading a variety of topics, including: Spirituality, Scripture, Biographies, Theology and Apologetics. Please join us in this informal group as we seek to enrich our knowledge and faith! Our first meeting will be this Thursday, April 18, after Mass to receive our first book “Rediscover Catholicism” by Matthew Kelly.

YES-Young Eucharistic Servers Last Sunday, the newly elected officers for YES met with the executive board for the group’s first official meeting. Some items discussed were Officers responsibilities, fundraising ideas, community projects and parish service projects. It was decided that we will hold a “Garage Sale” as the group’s first fundraiser, to be held on May 4 from 7 am to 12 noon. We need lots of donated items such as: gently used clothing, children’s toys, baby items, small appliances, household items, knick-knacks, and more. If you have any items to donate you may contact Ed Concepcion at 916-398-0948 and arrange to drop off your items. Please only donate items that are in good enough shape for resale. NO JUNK – Please! Thank you for supporting our Youth.

Francis Brings Peace at Gubbio ( the wolf )

As Francis' reputation for holiness and peace spread throughout his native Italy, people called upon him to resolve their disputes and to deliver them from danger and violence. On one such occa-sion, the people of the small town of Gubbio alerted Francis to the presence of a ferocious wolf in their countryside. All efforts to trap the wolf or drive him away had failed, so they called upon the Saint to intervene. He went out with only the mes-sage of the Gospel; no weapon, no sanctions, no threatening bravado. Francis met the wolf and called him to repentance for the chaos and harm that he had caused. The wolf and the townspeople agreed to live in peace; the wolf would refrain from attacks and the townspeople would feed the wolf for the rest of his life. As is frequently the case, such pious legends often have a basis in his-tory and scholars have long thought that this popu-lar narrative of Francis exercising miraculous power over the world of animals has at its core a factual account of no lesser spiritual importance. It may well be that the term "Wolf of Gubbio" signi-fies an epithet attached to a notorious outlaw of the period, who both raided livestock and robbed peo-ple as well. Confronted by armed villagers, the "Wolf" nonetheless prevailed, being either more skillful with weapons or more ruthless in nature. Francis, however, neither confronted him with arms nor threatened him by sanctions. Rather, he challenged the robber in the name of the Lord to reconcile with his victims and so to experience the peace that only Christ can bring. Thus, the legend of the "Wolf of Gubbio" points to a more enduring dimension of Francis' historical ministry, namely, the reconciliation of sinners and their reintegration into the fabric of social life through the grace of forgiveness.

Francisco trae paz a Gubbio (el lobo)

Mientras que la reputación de Francisco por su santidad y por la paz tendia en toada su paiz Italia natal, la gente le pidia a resolver sus dificultades y librarlos de peligro y de violencia. En una ocasión, los habitantes del pequeno pueblo Gub-bio alertaron a Francisco a la presencia de un lobo feroz en su campo. Todos los esfuerzos para atrapar al lobo o alejarlo había fracas ado y por eso le pidió al Santo por apoyo. Salió sólo con el mensaje del Evangelio; no arma, no sanciones. Francisco encontró al lobo y le llamó al arrepen-timiento por el caos y el daño que había causado. El lobo y el pueblo acordaron vivir en paz; el lobo se abstendría de los ataques y la gente del pueblo alimentaria al lobo el resto de su vida. Como suele ser el caso, esas leyendas piadosas suelen tener una base en la historia y los estudiosos han pen-sado durante mucho tiempo que esta narrativa popular de Francisco ejerciendo el poder mi-lagroso sobre el mundo de los animales tiene en su corazon una relación real que tiene no menor importancia espiritual. Es muy posible que el tér-mino "Lobo de Gubbio" significa un epíteto unido a un bandido famoso de la época, que asaltaba y robaba ganado de la gente. En la lucha el "Lobo" se parecia ser más hábil con las armas o más des-piadado. Francisco, sin embargo, ni se le enfrentó a él con la arma ni lo amenazó con condenacion. Mejor, el Santo llamo al ladrón en el nombre del Señor para reconciliarse con sus víctimas y así disfrutar la paz que sólo Cristo puede dar. Enton-ces, la leyenda del "Lobo de Gubbio" apunta a una dimensión más duradera del ministerio de Francisco en su historia, que es la reconciliación de los pecadores y su vuelta en el tejido de la vida social a través de la gracia del perdón.

In the teachings of the Catholic Church we enjoy a benefit not given to others outside the Church. We should not withhold that benefit from the world but seek in every way available to us to share it. In our words and actions where God has placed us, here and now, we must effectively continue to cry out:

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and blessing….

To the one who sits upon the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor, glory and might, forever and ever.
