What does it mean to be a Global Passport School?
• Each grade level will have a specific region of the world that will be integrated into classroom learning. Our region is Africa!
• Develop Global Citizens – awareness of similarities and differences of other cultures
• This will help prepare students to be competitive in a global marketplace.

What will we be learning in Science this 9 Weeks?
Students will understand the United States government is
structured around the powers of legislative, executive, and judicial
branches.
Students can explain that historical events often have effects on the
local community and regions over time. We also research historical
figures.
Students will learn how to use the features of a map(i.e. directions,
scale, legend, symbols, and labels) to determine locations.
Students can explain how human wants and needs differ from
place to place according to where they live.
What will we be learning in Social Studies this 9 Weeks?
Homework
Homework will be given Monday-Thursday nights.

Report Cards & Conferences● We must meet with EVERY parent before we can
hand out report cards.
● Ask your employer for time off to meet with your child’s teacher.
● Each teacher will send home sign-up information for conferences close to conference time.

Duty Free LunchWe are looking for volunteers to staff Duty Free Lunch this year. This means, you will come to your child’s lunch time and help other parents monitor students. Duty Free Lunch dates are:
September 30th October 28th November 18th
December 9th January 13th February 17th
March 17th April 20th May 12th
Please let your child’s teacher know if you are available to help out on any of these dates.

Read to AchieveRead to Achieve is a program created in
legislation approved by the North Carolina General Assembly in July 2012. The program has
components for improving reading proficiency for students in kindergarten through third grade. The law offers multiple supports for children as
they build reading ability.
