the MYP on the Program Standards and Practices.• During the evaluation, the faculty at RM and JW:

Submitted assessment samples to IB (Spring 2010)Completed a program self study (Fall 2011)Presented written curriculum to IB (December 2011)Participated in the school evaluation visit (February 2011)

What’s been going on in the MYP worldwide?• The Program Standards and Practices governing all three IB

programs were revised in 2009 and 2010.• The new Standards and Practices came into effect in January

2011.• While many aspects of the Standards and Practices were

revised and streamlined, one marked change was the addition of the following language to this document:

9. The school supports access for students to the IB programme(s) and philosophy.Requirements for the Middle Years Programmea. The school strongly encourages participation for all students.

How did the visit go?

• The site evaluation team and IB regional office offered a number of commendations and recommendations to the schools.

• In addition, the team presented two areas for future growth and development of the program:

Julius West Middle School and Richard Montgomery High School will enhance vertical and horizontal collaborative planning and reflection.

Richard Montgomery High School will implement a whole-school model to provide and optimum pathway toward successful completion of the program for all students in grade 10.

• Collaborative planning and reflectionPre-service – Developing student learning expectations for Approaches to

LearningPre-service – Teachers collaborate on MYP unit plans for the first nine weeks. The goal of the school’s MYP committee has been revised to refocus this group

on horizontal planning across subject areas in the 9th and 10th grades.

From the MYP Standards and Practices

• “Collaborative planning and reflection ensures that all teachers have an overview of students’ learning experiences” (C1.1a)

• “The units of work are documented on unit planners and follow the Middle Years Programme planning process” (C2.1d)

• In implementing a program that adheres to the MYP standards and practices, we can ensure that all of our students have access to the benefits of the MYP model of instruction.

Why is this important?
