Create a reading journal style page, using the book review sheet from your Home Learning pack to help you. Challenge yourself to choose a different style of activity each day! This week you could log on to https://www.bb c.co.uk/bitesize /articles/zmjjqp 3 and complete the reading lesson focussing on selecting key pieces of information from a text and evaluating the text while giving a personal opinion. Our school value this week is ENJOYMENT so we would love for you to send in some photographs of things you have enjoyed learning about this week on Seesaw! Art: WALT examine the illustrations from a picture book. Aaron Becker is an American illustrator and author of children’s illustrated books. Watch the video clip to understand his thoughts behind why he creates stories in this way https://www.storybreathing.com/the-making-of- journey/ You will remember this book from our World Book Day celebrations. Using the illustration and vocabulary sheets below, write down your thoughts on the illustration from the story and explain why you feel that way. Challenge: Can you create your own illustration that conveys the same feelings as the image below? MON Please make sure you are following the lessons that we have identified on the timetable for White Rose rather than those that automatically open on their website In Maths, an efficient strategy means that we calculate answers accurately using a reliable method. The strategies we use could be mental (using for example number bonds or multiplication facts), jottings or formal written methods. Look carefully at the numbers involved to help you estimate the answers and choose the most efficient strategy to help you. White Rose Maths: Summer Term Week 3 (w/c 4 th May) Lesson 1 - Multiply 2- digit numbers (area model) Today’s video focuses on the area model which we call the grid method. Challenge 9 has several possibilities. Can you spot any patterns in the possibilities you find? Look at the non-chronological report below and pick out the features you can find. You have already written non-chronological reports in Y5 so this should just be a re-cap! Use the cue-card below did you identify all of the features? If not, see if you can find the remaining features in the report. Tomorrow you will be writing your own non- chronological report on the planet ‘Pandora’. Click on the link below and watch the video about this planet. You need to make thorough notes to help you write about the planet - there are some suggested headings below the cue card to help you plan. https://www.literacyshed.com/the-sci---fi-shed.html# (You will need to scroll down the page to find the Pandora video) You may wish to watch the video more than once as you write your notes as there is some very technical language throughout! My Maths: Multiplication. TUES White Rose Maths: Summer Term Week 3 (w/c 4 th May) Lesson 2 - Multiply 4- digits by 2-digits. For question 2b you could draw place value counters to help you. Questions 5 to 8 have several steps so you might need some extra resilience today (we know you will try your best) and as you might not be able to share question 5b with a partner you could look at the way Mrs Kingshott solved the question (below) and see if how it compares to your own strategy. Mrs Kingshott knows that you can do multiplication in any order (as it is commutative) so for example 2734 x 3 x 12 = 12 x 3 x 2734 therefore she decided to multiply 12 x 3 first using a mental strategy. The product of 12 x 3 is 36. She then multiplied 2734 by 36 to give the answer 98 424 boxes Using your notes from yesterday you are going to do a 10 minute plan for a non-chronological report on the planet ‘Pandora’. Try to include the features you identified yesterday and the cue-card to help you with this. Now use your plan to write up your non-chronological report about the planet ‘Pandora’. Audience: Parents/family members Purpose: To inform them about the planet When you are finished, you can ask your audience to read it and give you feedback using the cue-cards. - Did it inform them of the new planet ‘Pandora’ well? Were - What advice would they give you if you were to do this again? Write this feedback down you will need it later on in the week! DT: WALT identify a range of breads from different countries and cultures We would usually be learning how to bake bread this term. If you are lucky enough to have some flour and yeast you might be able to have a go baking some bread at home or perhaps some cakes or biscuits. You might have some recipes for bread at home that you can look at. Have a look at these website to learn more about bread. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zrxd7ty and https://www.funkidslive.com/learn/the-grain- chain/breads-around-the-world/ You could ask members of your family what their favourite type of bread is. Mrs Kingshott loves naan bread!! Create a fabulous and eye-catching poster showing everything you have learnt about bread including information about bread from around the world. Create a poster showing how to use the multiplication strategies shown on the videos from today and yesterday. Try to include some top tips and explain any common mistakes someone might make. It would be great to see your posters on Seesaw!

White Rose Maths: Summer Term – Week 3 (w/c 4th May) Lesson 3- Divide with remainders Questions 7 and 8 have several possibilities. Can you spot any patterns in the possibilities you find?

For the rest of the week you are going to be designing your own land/planet and creating a non-chronological report for this. Audience: Intergalactic travellers/ Space Explorers Purpose: To inform them of your new land/planet Today you are going to create a detailed map, which includes the name of your land/planet and the areas within it. Is it hot or cold? Flat or mountainous? Is there any food/water? There are examples below which may help you or you may wish to watch the Pandora video again to give you some ideas!

Wellbeing Wednesday (UNCRC Articles 29 and 31) It is really important to take care of your mental well-being while you are learning at home. We know you are all doing brilliantly and trying hard to be the best you can. Your teachers are really proud of you. Yoga and exercise are great ways to relax. Have a go at this Harry Potter themed yoga session https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-BS87NTV5I or complete one of the activities below. Can you create your own wellbeing and relaxation routine? Perhaps your family can get involved too and you can include activities that work indoors and outdoors. We hope you really ENJOY this challenge!

My Maths: Division with remainders.

White Rose Maths: Summer Term – Week 3 (w/c 4th May) Lesson 4 - Calculate perimeter Look at the posters below to remind you about perimeter and compound shapes.

Today you are going to plan a non-chronological report about YOUR planet/land. Think about the features you need to include (use the cue card to help you). There is a template for a plan below which you may wish to use. What technical vocabulary are you going to include? Once you have finished your plan, on a scrap piece of paper – sketch out what you want your final non-chronological report to look like (so that you know where everything is going to go!) Ask an adult for their feedback – do they think this layout would be effective for the reader? How do they think it could be improved? Sketch a new and revised version of how your non-chronological report is going to look – there are examples below to help you! Remember to think about the advice you were given earlier in the week.

History: Did you know that during the history of Egypt, the beliefs changed with the leader? When someone rose in power, their belief system rose as well. The new beliefs would combine with the beliefs that were already there.

What did the ancient Egyptians believe and how did it effect their lives? Research some of the key Gods e.g. Hapi, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Thoth or Ra and then create either a fact file, book or detailed drawing/painting about one of the Gods.

If you want to present your work as book, you can find instructions for making a 6 page book here http://www.laurenstringer.com/uploads/2/5/6/4/25641572/make_a_six-page_book_out_of_one_sheet_of_paper.pdf

https://nrich.maths.org/1045 Miss Walker wants to draw a square where the perimeter is numerically equal to the area. That means if the perimeter is 18cm the area would be 18cm2. Of course, the perimeter will be measured in units of length, for example, centimetres (cm) while the area will be measured in square units, for example, square centimetres (cm2). What size square will she need to draw? Extra Challenge: What about drawing a rectangle that is twice as long as it is wide which still has a perimeter numerically equal to its area? Solutions can be found here: https://nrich.maths.org/1045/solution

FRI Year 5 Funky Friday Maths Challenge Watch these videos to revise how we calculate perimeter and area.

Look at the information below and solve the Meerkat Madness challenge. Remember the perimeter must always by 60m.

What do you notice about the different dimensions of the enclosures?

Is it always true that the smaller the width, the greater the area of the shape?

How are you making sure that you have found all the possible dimensions of enclosure?

Today you are going to use your brilliant plan from yesterday to write up your non-chronological report about your planet/land. We would love to see your ideas so please share them with us on Seesaw! (You can either take a picture or if you type up your work, ask an adult to save it as a PDF to upload to your journal.)

Cooperation Challenge As part of your daily exercise collect some natural resources and arrange it into the letters to form the word cooperation. Write down what cooperation means to you then think of five ways that you’ll display that power over the next few days. You could share some photographs with us on Seesaw – either of your work or of something showing cooperation in action.

Remember to also complete the following: Spelling Shed, Times Tables Rock Stars, Grammar Bug, Bug Club
