Weekly learning objective
WALT: Round Decimals WALT: Order money in pounds and pence
WALT: write from the perspective of a character Reading journal for the
week: Choose a
book, either from Bug
Club, an audio book, or an actual book! This week, could you
interview one of the
characters in your book? You could
write questions to
ask your character and then try and answer them
as that character –
this could be written out or maybe you could film it with a family
member. You’ll really
have to think about what the
character is like and how they might
feel.
History: Today you are going to be continuing to investigate Henry VIII’s Great Matter Use the link to the Oak National Academy to check your understanding of key vocabulary. How many words did you remember? https://www.thenational.academy/year-4/foundation/henrys-viii-lesson-3-year-4-wk2-1 Then have a go at the lesson after the vocabulary check. Gather the information you have learnt together and then present it however you like - make sure you ask an adult to post your work onto the Facebook page!
MON Please make sure you are following the lessons that we have identified on the timetable for White Rose rather than those that automatically open on their website. White Rose Maths: Summer Term Week 2 Lesson 1 – Round Decimals Watch the video and complete the worksheet
Watch the first 30 seconds of the video ‘Bubbles’ (Click on this title to go to the video!) Split a piece of paper in half. Label one half as ‘before’ and label the other half as ‘after’. On the before side, draw the girl before she found the bubbles – how was she feeling? How do you know? What can you predict about her? Then on the after side, draw the girl after she finds the bubbles. How does her mood change? How might she be feeling? How do you know? Spider diagram all your thoughts around your drawings. You will need to use inference (remember it’s like being a detective looking for clues.)
Task 2: Rounding Game: Make some number cards (1-9). Pick 2 or 3 at random to create a decimal number. For example, if I pick 2 and 3 I could have 2.3 or 3.2 and if I pick 1, 4 and 5 I could have 14.5 or 51.4. Create 10 numbers of your own to round to the nearest whole number.
TUES White Rose Maths: Summer Term Week 2 Lesson 2 – Halves and quarters Watch the video and complete the worksheet
Watch the video ‘Bubbles’ until 1 minute 12 seconds Imagine you are the girl in this video (you can make it a boy if you’d rather) and write a recount of swimming in the sea with the fish. You will need to use expanded noun phrases – have a look at the resources attached to remind you how to use these. I have written a model of the first three sentences for you to use to write your own. You will also need to write in 1st person – I saw the fish. They swam past me. Your description should be about 5 sentences long.
ART: You have had lots of practice tackling portraits over the last few weeks. (We have been really enjoying looking at them on our Facebook Page.) Today we are asking you to try and draw a portrait of someone in your family. Think carefully about the things you have learnt and remember you will have to show the person you have drawn, so do your best. LOOK REALLY CAREFULLY!! Good Luck.
Task 2: Create a poster to present how to write a half and a quarter in lots of different ways. You could show it has a picture, as a decimal, as a fraction using tenths or hundredths. Get creative – how else could you show a half?
WED Mid Week Maths Madness Have a look at the Maths Challenge Card 4 below. There is a challenge in the middle that you will need to solve. Now have a look at the challenges around the edge – how many of them can you answer. You will need to be resilient and might need to try more than once – we look forward to seeing your calculations when you’ve finished!
Watch the video ‘Bubbles’ all the way through Why do you think the first girl leaves the bubbles on the beach? How do you think the new little girl feels when she finds the bubbles? How does this make the original little girl feel? Note down your ideas on a piece of paper – this could be a spider diagram or however you wish to present it. Now watch the whole video again, thinking about how the main girl’s emotions change throughout the video. Note down words to describe her emotions at each stage of the story on the attached sheet. I’ve given you some example adjectives to get you started.
Music: Today we are going to listen to a famous piece of Tudor music called Greensleeves (it takes a few seconds to start so be patient). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGfFcSWVSIw Some people suggest that it was written by Henry VIII. As you watch the video, can you write down what you think about it? Who is performing the music? What do you think they are wearing? What is the instrument he is playing? What is she singing about? Where are they? Do you like it? Why/why not?
THURS White Rose Maths: Summer Term Week 2 Lesson 3 – Pounds and Pence Watch the video and complete the worksheet
Today you will practise telling the story of the girl’s adventure as if it happened to you! Firstly, have a read through the diary entry (see attached) so you can remind yourself how to write a diary entry. Then when you are ready, tell the girl’s story (remember to use all the work you’ve done this week) as a diary entry. Practise saying it aloud for example – Dear diary, Today I went on a crazy adventure. I was just strolling along the beach feeling very lonely and miserable because none of my friends wanted to play with me. Suddenly, I saw something in the sand. It was bubbles!
Science: You have spent some time over the last few weeks thinking carefully about your skeleton, muscles and joints. Your challenge to day is to draw some stickmen pictures of yourself running either while out on your daily exercise or running in the garden. What is happening to you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCpotGr0TB4 Which bones are you using? Which muscles are you using? Which joints are you using? Label your diagram carefully it is really interesting to see what an amazing machine your body is?
MyMaths Introducing Money Use the skills you learnt in the White Rose lesson to help you identify the amounts of money. Question 2 is a challenge and you might need to do some calculations. Have a go and see how you get on!
FRI White Rose Maths: Summer Term Week 2 Lesson 4 – Ordering Money Watch the video and complete the worksheet
Writing day! Today you will need to write up the diary entry that you rehearsed yesterday. Remember to use all the work you have completed this week to help you! You’ve already written the under the sea sentences so you can just copy them if you want to. Remember:

School Values: Please choose one of the school Learning Powers from the list below: Resilience, Risk, Co-operation,,Enjoyment, Curiosity, Concentration, Responsibility and Creativity. Your task is to use your Creativity to either, make it and decorate it, or amaze us with another way of showing us it. Which of these learning powers have you used or developed the most over the last few weeks? Remember you don’t have to just do it inside!
Task 2 Use the price list below and write 3 statements comparing the prices. For example: Burger costs less than the hot dog. Challenge: You have £10. What could you buy? Can you create two lists of items that you could buy? Think about how many of each item you could put on the list.
