This week has been an exciting week for

your year 4 and 5 as they embarked on

their residential to Danbury Outdoors.

The weather wasn’t on their ide

yesterday and may got caught in one of

the downpours during the day – but this

didn’t dampen their spirits! When I

joined them in the evening they were

full or beans happily telling me about all

the things they had down that day. ‘I

didn’t think that I could do the aerial

walk, it was so high – but I did and really

enjoyed it’, Connor. During the evening

we all met round a camp fire, built by

Mrs Bott, and enjoyed toasted

marshmallows, then it was hot

chocolate and bed. They have another

exciting day today and I promise that

next week’s newsletter will be filled

with photos, as will our Twitter page.

Thank you to all the staff who went,

these trips couldn’t go ahead without

you!

Monday starts the SATs week for year

6s. they have worked so hard and we

wish them all the best.

Just a reminder that there is a

meeting on Monday for the parents

of the children in year 6 going on the

residential after half term. Please

come along so that you can get all the

information you need before the trip.

Meeting starts at 5pm in year 6 class.

We have exciting news, Mrs Bott will

be brining in a pair of guinea pigs to

school from next week. The children

will be able to hold the guinea pigs,

feed them and learn how to care for

them. Its such a great opportunity for

the children to learn about pets and

animals, thank you Mrs Bott and of

course Geoff and Purdy who supplied

the cage.

Lastly, next week we have two special

assemblies. On Monday Anthony

from Fizzpop Science will be in to talk

to the children about an exciting

science club that will start on Tuesday

10th June, letters will follow his talk

with the children. Then on Friday

Carly from Epic Dance will be in to

introduce her dance club to the

children. This club will start on

Tuesday 11th June at 3:30 pm and

letters will come out about this next

week.

Class 1

Year 1 have been very busy at home making dioramas of the Jurassic age and writing fantastic stories about dinosaurs. We have been learning about Mary Anning, a famous fossil hunter from the early 1800's, who found the skeleton of and ichthyosaurus in the cliffs near Lyme Regis. In Forest Schools we are starting to make our own fossils!

Class 3

Eliza: We wrote a playscript about our lives.

Carmen: We are reading Peter Pan.

Dexter: We were learning about light.

Huey: We drew Peter Pan book covers.

Harvey: We tested materials and sorted them out into transparent, translucent and opaque.

Dyllan: We’ve learned about grids in maths.

Huey and Mollie: in PE we played Cups And Saucers, Beanbag Invasion, Go For The Goal.

Dexter: We made a display about Noah’s Ark.

Class 6

In Year 6 this week, they have been writing

balance arguments on their chosen topics,

ie. Should jet skis be banned in Australia,

should phones be banned and should school

uniform be banned. They have also been

working very hard practicing for their SATs

which take place next week.

Class 2

Religious Education saw us finishing our Johna and the Whale wall picture. The children all enjoyed making this particularly seeing Johna inside of the whale. In science as part of our health and well being we have started an experiment looking at mould on bread.

St Cedd’s Great Achievers

Back in September 2018, Kali Karaskas and her helm Lia qualified for the National Sailing squad in the UK Cadet Class. They had trained all through the winter in different locations and in some challenging conditions! Meanwhile, Pip Smith joined forces with helm, Cally an ex pupil of St Cedd’s from Stone Sailing club, in St Lawrence and trained hard at the club and both teams took part in some winter training at Alton Water over Christmas organised by the Cadet Class As-sociation.

All of this committed training on and off the water was for the UK Cadet Association Spring Selector Series, three week-end events held over four weeks at; Stone Sailing Club, Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy and Grafham Water. Both teams did fantastically well, with Pip and Cally getting a 1st at Stone and Graham and Kali and Lia achieved 1st at Weymouth and 2nd at Stone.

After the prizegiving in the last event at Grafham Water last weekend, the tension was building as it was then time to announce the world team! Seven teams are picked, two go to helms that are under 15 years old.

Pip and Kali with their helms had worked so hard and both teams were placed in the top 3 for the world qualifying team!! They will now be representing Great Britain in the Cadet Class World Sailing Event in Poland later this summer.

This has been a wonderful experience for Kali & Pip, not only learning crewing sailing skills and racing, but working as a team and under pressure, communication, confidence building and thinking for themselves. They have made some great friends along the way too and got some pretty cool trophies!!

Well done girls we are all so proud of you!
