A Note from the Editor
Having not done a road ride in donkey years, I was coerced to
join the VP on a Tuesday night ride with the roadies that
entailed taking on the streets which wound from KSH TTDI
through Damansara Heights Decanter and back. The total
ride distance was around 26kms which isnt much really, but
the continuous pedalling for the distance really does put into
perspective the amount of breaks that we take when we do
our M+D rides (and of course the significantly reduced
number of cigarettes we soak up), and how slack we reallycan be. The burn that I felt really brings me to think that road
riding could just be the roids that I can safely crank into my
legs to improve my off road endurance. Of course we do have
to thank Kevin who waited for us as my ever impeccable
timing got me to KSH as the group pulled away. Im looking
forward to riding more on Tuesday nights if my day job
unshackles me earlier than usual.
M+D are back in action this weekend with a beginner friendly
ride through the Elmina plantation. For those who are keen
on making it a double whammie pure cross country ride
weekend, can also join Choy on Saturday, potentially at FRIM
if he is able to make it. Call him, he loves the sound of his
phone ringing.
T+G are really bringing in the distance this weekend with the
shorter of the two ride options at 80+ kms with the longer
version cracking 140kms. Sauce up boys and girls.
Another update for yall on the Prez Ride, recce is more or
less done, with only the final planning of the route left to do.
We estimate at the very most of 1km (in total if we have it our
way) of road riding to connect all 4 loops this year. My advise
is dont let the distance fool you.
Until next week,
Ed

Mud + Dirt by The English Nose
With it being so wet every day, weve decided to avoid Kiara again and opt for something that will give newbies a
little more distance in their normal riding. A very nice rolling, and flatish cross country ride, with some decent,
very ridable hills thrown in, Elmina Plantation is a good mix of fire roads and easy rolling trails which will make it anice outting for all, so dont let the distance scare you away. Do be on time so you can avoid the hot ride back to
the start point.

Tar + Grime by The Don
Nearly Sg Tengi
Theres only 22 days left to the big one. Thats only 3 Sundays left. Last Sunday was a nice reprieve from the centuries wehave been doing for the few last weekends; but we are reprising our long hauls again. We are giving Pedalholics a rare
treat this Sunday: were going bananas! Its a Malaysia-Boleh, flattish140km to Sg Tengi. Ok-lah. We turn right after Ijok
Petronas from Persiaran Kuala Selangor and head towards Sg Tengi. We stop at the fruit shop on the left for
refreshments & food before heading back the same way. Single-filed riding is recommended as there will be vehicular
traffic. We will not turn at the usual right into Kota Dsara from Jln. Sg Buloh. Instead please turn right at next junction
and turn right at the next junction. You will end up at same road. Road works atJln Sg Buloh, so please be careful. Only fit
riders should attempt Route B. Others please take Route A for a 82km ride. Remember, this is a self-supported ride, so
come prepared.
Please bring along 2 water bottles filled with hydrating salts (extra for refill), spare tube, inflation device, some money, mobile phone, sun block and muesli bars. Riders need to drink & eat regularly to avoid cramping up. Weather forecast
says its either gonna be very hot or very wet, so come prepared. Ride sensibly at a good tempo & cadence. Do NOT ride
beyond your ability. Riders unfamiliar to peloton riding, please stick to rear of peloton. Please read the Rules of Group
Riding.

And so it began, excused from climbing Bukit Hantu courtesyof Ching Ming, and feeling like I just got lucky, we slowly rolled out of
Batu 14 heading for Batu 18, or should that be Batu 20?, but unlike
the residents of Hogwarts, the county surveyor has no mystical means
of making the actual 6km leg shrink to the apparent 4km leg.
No matter, the fast bunch came flashing past and I soon found myself
hanging onto Vongs coat tails cruising along in a what can best be
described as a near hallucinogenic experience, or having a dizzy
spell/rush of blood to the head etc etc. and soon all thoughts of the
county surveyors error were blanked from my withering mind.
Poof! As in a wave of the magic wand, and also as in the state of my
lungs, we instantly arrived at Batu 18, by which time the fast lot could
no longer be seen, they must have disappeared down a black hole.
Onward and upward we went sheltering in Vongs jet stream as the
early morning mist vaporized of his frame, and soon enough we were
granted a rest stop at the Tee/(pee) junction.
The fast pace had done its damage as riders continued to arrive some
time later including Malcolm fresh from his holiday in Perth. Others setoff in small groups for Genting Peres, which is when I spied Ben
sneaking off no doubt trying for a good time.
It took me until halfway up to recover, but with the early morning sun
casting long shadows behind me, the great smells and sounds and
views, the climb was a pure pleasure.
Instant Karma by Chris Hay
Moments later I was buzzed by 2 superbikers and 3 white sports cars,
one being a Mitsubishi, all moving considerably faster up the hill than I.
Temporarily distracted it was then that the fast lot re-appeared out of
nowhere heading downhill, how they managed to escape the evil
clutches of the black hole I dont know, but it was pretty impressive.

A quick re-group at the top and off we set for the waterfall caf stop,
passing Don and his rearguard troops battling their way up the final
slopes of the climb, which should have been my first warning sign.
You see, tail end Charlie Don saves himself for the return leg, so mere
mortals like you and I, who perhaps have been a bit too frisky on the
outward leg, well we usually have a hard time hanging onto Don on the
return, and much pain and suffering is experienced (muahahaha.I
like, I likeLil Devil)
The waterfall caf served its usual rewarding menus to the ravenous
hordes, and it was clear that many people had traveled in cars this day,
so we were right not to tackle Bukit Hantu.
So, refueled, we were the last to set off for the return with Don and hisgang, and as we crawled up by the dam I made my second fatal error,
the first error being behind Don on the return leg remember?
Mr. PCC scooter man (you know who you are) was just too irresistible,
and so several tows and pushes and off I rocketed up that hill defying
gravity and soon I was behind Don, and then Per-li screamed past, so
chase was given and soon enough I was at the front, and there they let
me suffer.
After more time on the front in the hot sun than what I thought was
fair, I looked behind only to see the pair of them silently and sneakily
wheel sucking and laughing with glee at my predicament. I tried to
shake them off but failed; only it got worse as we dropped down by the
lake and started the final climbs back to the Tee Junction.
Instant Karma cont /The week that was (5 April 2009) T+G
On those long drags error no. 1 revealed itself dont follow Don on
the return and as the pair of them worked me over with the old one-
two and dropped me, error no. 2 also revealed itself instant karma
for with the Dons butt disappearing up the road no less than four kids
came running alongside me and grabbed hold of my saddle, but this
time no pushes, only hangers on, all laughing at my struggle, and so all
chance of catching Don and teaching him a lesson was gone (Chris, are
you sure the kids are not part of your imagination?). So I waited for
the tail enders and together we made it back to Batu 14, only to be
greeted by Don with Chris what happened? Well, now you know.
And remember Error no. 1, dont mess with the Don!

The week(a few weeks back) that was (21 March 2009) M+D
Japanese Love by Nagai
THE ORTHPEDIST told me that he would not give me an injection nor
pills for pain relief, while examining my X-rayed shoulder. The reason is
that I (should) know the BUSHIDO (Samurais creed), I have toovercome the pains without medication for a week. He also asked if I
were injured by KENDO (bamboo sword fighting), and told me how
nice KEN WANATABE is. Thanks doctor, I never had this kind of
medical consultation before! A unique approach. I do believe this
doctor had just watched Tom Cruises Last Samurai in the night
before and he was so impressed by the movie, when I knocked his
office, I guess. But I never asked him, because of my Samurais mind
not to ask unnecessary questions, just respect and obey the instruction
from the boss.
FINALLY, I HAD SEVEN STICHES AND MEMORIAL X-RAY PHOTO because
of the damages by falling down on the Telemung downhill, I thought Ihave to stay a couple of weekends with tiny NINTENDO. An exciting
weekend plan, isnt it? At the first weekend, I could manage myself to
stay being calm and nice. But in the middle of the 2nd week, I started
check my bike and change brake rubbers, spray grease as my pain
fades away. Finally I found myself following the GPS navigation down to
Rawang hash.
AS TIME GOES FAR, your attention and care for your loved ones may
become lesser and lesser. I realize this fact when I found the rear
derailleur scratches the spokes of my 11 year old bike. I overlooked the
damage from the crash not only me but on my bike. It was too late,
when I found it at the pre-ride routine. and I was disappointing myselfhaving mechanical failure in two straight rides, just simply because of
lack of my attention and carefulness on my aluminum buddy. It comes
back as scary scratch noise.
SOMEHOW, I managed finding a few combinations of gears, whichworks minimum enough to start off the hash ride anyway. Short ride
trail is flat, wide and easy way goes through palm plantation, natural
bushes and woods with few creeks passing. Totally hustle free ride for
everyone. On the way, I overtook a group of healthy and active 10-15
boys and girls who straggle their way in the middle of the jungle. Some
of them shouted Jalan! Jalan! to cheer up their friends. I suppose the
meaning shall be Go, Go, Go, Go!. Am I right? Terima Kasih.

Spare Wheels Project
Your friends have heard you rant about the drops and
the endos and have seen the breathtaking scenery
from your flickr, Facebook and not to forget the fridge
door photos.
They finally want to get off their bum and join you for
a ride but running behind you, sitting on your top tube
or dinking them are probably not the best ways for
them to experience it with you. Of course, he/she
could be shit hot, then no one would probably say
anything.
In any regards, PCC has the SPARE WHEELS PROJECT
underway. Currently made up of generous owner's
bikes, they are available for people to borrow and
ride. Some of them have been ridden more than the
villageernever mind. They've been ridden a lot.
Boon Foo has recently offered his assistance to put
together a few hard tails, and together with what we
have now, we should be able to cater for height
ranging from Snow White's pals to the Yang Mings
who want to give this ago.
In all SERIOUSNESS, if you have someone who wants
to join us for a ride, please do not hesitate to drop us
a line and we WILL do our best to get them a bike for
the next suitable ride. Take note that there will be a
$15.00 charge to cover expenses such as ferrying thebike around (only if you are riding with us), washing it
and of course its ongoing maintenance.
