WEEKEND SUNDAY ISLAMIC SCHOOL
CURRICULUM (Revised August, 2009)
NAME The name of the school shall be “Weekend Sunday Islamic School” AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
♦ Provide Islamic and Arabic teaching to Muslim children in the Greater Rochester area
♦ Provide children an opportunity to meet and know each other and thereby strengthen their bond as a Muslim ummah
♦ Make children aware of Islam and their future role in Muslim society
♦ The teaching shall be non-sectarian and non-controversial ADMINISTRATION
♦ School shall have a qualified principal/coordinator and teaching staff
♦ There shall be regular meetings of teaching staff and principal to evaluate school progress on the first Sunday of each month and the principal shall issue an agenda the week prior
♦ The principal shall be responsible for dealing with a teacher who misses a class without a leave of absence or irregular attendance.
♦ Some teachers receive some kind of payment under some contract. ACADEMIC PROGRAM The academic program shall be divided into three major sections: 1. Children 2. Teens 3. Youth
School Regulations 1. Children should be five years old by December 1. 2. Children section will be up to sixth grade 3. Admission shall be according to the knowledge of each child and not according to age or
admitted to the Orientation class. An evaluation exam will be held for these students. 4. Regular school criteria of examinations and homework assignments will be strictly followed and
graded 5. There shall be three classes and Thuhr Salat per session as follows (tentative):
Period 1 10:00 to 10:55 Period 2 11:00 to 11:45 Break 11:45 to 12:05 Period 3 12:05 to 12:50 Salat 1:00
6. Teacher shall be responsible for checking the knowledge level of each student and their knowledge of the previous grade’s material
Curriculum: The curriculum shall cover three major subjects:
♦ Arabic leading to the reading of Quran
♦ Quraanic Memorization
♦ Islamic History
♦ Fundamentals of Islam 1. Basics of Faith 2. Arkaan-I-Islam 3. Basic ethics 4. Shariah
