Dear OLGC School Families, Next week we will begin the Lenten Season with an All School Mass on Ash Wednesday. This 40-day period is a time of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting. The OLGC School Staff will have fun feasting on “Fat Tuesday” with a Pączki party; as well as looking forward to growing in faith this Lenten Season. On Tuesday, we will prepare our hearts and minds for Lent with a Reconciliation and prayer service. Our staff will also have the opportunity to participate in Bishop Robert Barron’s study of the Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Lively Virtues. This will be a weekly study to identify the spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another. Lastly, our staff will be receiving Bishop Barron’s daily Lenten Gospel reflections. In partnership with our staff Lenten study, you may consider a family virtue study. Each family member can identify a virtue in which to grow and make a daily effort to strengthen this virtue. This is familiar to your children because at OLGC, we practice virtuous behavior and through our Leader in Me initiative have discovered that every action of ours reinforces a habit and our habits form who we are. Through God’s divine grace, may our identified virtue become part of our spiritual armor and allow the light of Christ to shine in our world! Reflecting on and living out the virtues is a great way to prepare your children for Lent! Students will have the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation at school this Lenten season. We are grateful to Fr. Michael, Fr. Dave, and Fr. Anthony for their dedication and commitment to offering life-changing encounters with Jesus for our school. For your own personal journey this Lent, please consider attending the Parish Penance Service on Tuesday, March 10th from 12:00-2:00 PM or 7:00-9:00 PM. Jesus is calling you to experience His mercy through Reconciliation this Lenten season! May God use this season of Lent to transform your hearts with gratitude, patience, strength, and peace. The school staff will be praying for your family and welcomes your prayers. We are blessed to be on the Lenten journey with your family. I humbly ask for your prayers as I attend the AOD Principal Retreat this week in Grand Rapids. The retreat is centered around the topics of Christ's call to servant leadership and apostolic boldness. The retreat will lead us into prayer, worship, reflection, and activities all with the goal of understanding in a more profound way the paradox of the Christian life: to be both a leader and a follower of Jesus Christ. I look forward to time in prayer as well as time to grow in faith and collaborate with fellow principals. Confirmation Service Corner: Quotes from Confirmation students and what they learned from serving others:

    • I learned that every act of service no matter how big or small can impact those in need, and sometimes just knowing they are cared about matters most.

    • I learned that giving feels way better than receiving.• I learned that all kids don’t have it the same and that …

some people grow up without a family of parents to look up to. [I learned] that there is good in everyone.

  • Cold and Flu Reminders!Cold and Flu season is upon us! Our main goal this season is to keep our students as healthy as possible. We cannot do this without help from all parents and caretakers. The following are some reminders about illness and your students:

    • Students that have a fever above 98.6 degrees MUST STAY HOME. Students cannot return until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication.

    • If a student has a fever, vomiting or frequent diarrhea before coming to school in the morning, please keep them home. This will help minimize spreading illnesses to others.

    • Washing hands is the best way to prevent the spread of cold and flu.

    • Cover coughs and sneezes. Try coughing and sneezing into your arm instead of your hands.

    • Please notifiy the school office when your child will be absent and also sick with any communicable illnesses such as strep throat, pink eye, influenza, etc. The absence line is 734-453-3620.

Thank you for your help in keeping our schools healthy and ready to learn!
