Reading Tasks

1. Is the poem about a man or a woman?

2. Find and copy two things that he took off before ‘he’d

begun it’ (line 11)

The man in the poem is not put off by the person saying he can’t do it.

He does the thing immediately and quickly. He is confident and proud of

his own abilities, a fact which enables his success.

The poem finishes making it clear that anytime someone doubts “you,”

that is a perfect opportunity to prove them wrong. One should “buckle

in” and do the thing they say “you” cannot.

Can you write a short story which includes a confident

character who succeeds in doing something even though

he/she may have people (even friends) who doubt him/her

and try and get in their way?

You can present it as a comic strip/a story board or short

piece of writing.
