WEEK 1: SUNDAY 3RD – SATURDAY 9TH

INTRODUCTION: GOD IS MY ROCK (2 SAMUEL 22:2-3)

One of the names of God is ‘God the Rock.’ What do you think of this name? A rock is solid and

strong and can be a place of shelter. That describes who God is. Today’s Bible story is about a

famous king who knew God even as a child—King David. God called David a man after His own

heart. He was also a shepherd, a warrior, and a musician.

Different events happened in David’s life. Some events you have heard before. One day God sent

the prophet Samuel to secretly anoint David to be Israel’s next king. During this time a man

named Saul was king. Saul did not know yet that God was giving the kingship to David. After he

was anointed by Samuel, David continued to watch the sheep. One day his father sent him to

take food to his older brothers who were in King Saul’s army.

When David saw the mighty Goliath threatening the army, David said he would fight him. David trusted in God the Rock. In the name of the Lord, David killed Goliath with a sling and a stone. God saved David from Goliath and David became a leader in Saul’s army. Many times he went to battle against Israel’s enemies. Each time, God saved David.

WEEK 2: SUNDAY 10TH – SATURDAY 16TH

INTRODUCTION: GOD IS THE GREAT I AM (EXODUS 3)

Sometimes when you feel overpowered by worry, fear, pain, or other life difficulties, where do you turn? In such times it is easy to feel that we are alone and must bear the challenges on our own. We may forget that God who is the Great I AM is always present with us. The Bible says that He is compassionate, slow to anger, and full of love for us even in our weakness.

Today’s lesson tells us of yet another name of God the Great I AM. Notice, God did not reveal His name as “I was.” His name is I Am. He is always present and so we can go to Him anytime and for about anything. This name more than any other reveals God as One who has always been and always will be. He is the God who hears our cries and cares about our suffering too!

In Exodus 3, God told Moses to take off his shoes because he was in the presence of God. Moses could no treat God the same way he would anyone else. Being in God’s presence was not a common thing. Moses took off his shoes at once to show his acceptance and respect for God’s greatness.

Connection time: Discuss with your parent/ guardian why you think God is ‘I AM’ and not ‘I WAS’ then share some characters of God that make Him ‘I AM’.

This week challenge your family and friends to look in the Bible and find the many names of God. Share the story of Moses with them.

WEEK 3: SUNDAY 17TH – SATURDAY 23RD

INTRODUCTION: COURAGE COMES FROM GOD (JOSHUA 1:9; NUMBERS 13-14)

Courage means being able to face difficulty, danger, or pain in spite of feeling afraid. Did you hear that? It does not mean that you are never afraid. But that you choose to face difficulties, pain, or danger even though you are afraid. In Numbers 13-14 we read about 12 spies who were sent to find out how good a land was for crops, if the cities were protected by walls, and if the people seemed strong or weak. Joshua and Caleb were 2 of the men chosen to go spy out the land. When the men returned, they brought back samples of fruit they found. They said the land was wonderful and had everything God promised.

Then 10 of the spies said the cities were large and surrounded by strong walls. The people looked like giants and were powerful. These men said they could not conquer that land. After hearing these men, many of the Israelites were afraid. Only Caleb and Joshua gave a report based on faith in God. They told the Israelites that while the cities and people were strong, God was stronger.

Courage does not mean we pretend not to feel those feelings but it simply means that we can trust in the One who gives courage! Sometimes that means you do something physical such as stopping a bully or choosing to be friends with someone that others dislike or tease. Just as God told Joshua to be strong and courageous, He wants us to know that courage comes from Him.

Explorer:

1. If you had been one of the spies in numbers 13-14, do you think you would have had courage? Why?……………………………………………………………………………………………………. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

2. In this story what gave Caleb and Joshua courage? Why?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...…….

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...….

3. Who do you think the people believed in the end? What did they do?……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...…..………

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………....…….

Prayer time: Dear God, kindly give me courage to face pain, difficulties and danger. I admit that I cannot get it by my own strength. Amen!

Courage does not mean we pretend not to feel afraid but it simply means that we can trust in the One who gives courage - that is God!

Connection time: Tell your parent/ guardian what courage is and ask him/her to share with you about a time when they needed courage.

Tell your family this will be a courage week. Work together to find songs that talk of courage and sing after dinner. Remind them that God gives courage.

WEEK 4: SUNDAY 24TH – SATURDAY 30TH

INTRODUCTION: I CAN HAVE COURAGE (DANIEL 3)

The book of Daniel in the Bible tells us how three young Hebrew men had courage as they refused to worship an idol. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, ordered a giant gold statue to be built. He had a big celebration and commanded all the people to bow down and worship the golden idol. If anyone did not bow down, that person would be thrown into a blazing hot furnace. Everyone obeyed except the three Hebrew men. These young men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were Daniel’s friends. They had courage to honour God even though the consequences were frightening. The king was very angry and told his servants to make the fire 7 times hotter than normal.

Guess what? Sometimes it can feel as though having courage is simply more than we can manage. We may think if we can get enough strength, wisdom, physical or mental ability, or calm our raging emotions, we would have courage. Yet, depending on our own strength, always leads us to see that we are not capable on our own. The king’s men grabbed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and threw them into the middle of that hot fire. The fire did not burn the men up! This is where our incredibly powerful God steps in! He appeared as the fourth person in the fire. Notice, God does not expect us to have courage on our own. It is His supernatural power that can strengthen us to do what we need to do. So when we need courage, let us run to Him!

God does not expect us to have courage on our own . I t is H is supernatural power that can strengthen us to do what is right.

Connection time: Share with your parent/guardian a time when you needed courage to confront a tough situation.

This week, pretend you are one of the 3 young Hebrew friends and write a thanks-giving letter to God for saving you from the hot furnace.
