View from the Principal’s Desk

We had a fantastic week full of rigorous activities for the students. Sport dominated the week with the open league

team going down courageously to Narrabri Public in PSSA. The girls PSSA netball team were victorious, sweeping the

court against Burren Junction. Again the girls dominated in the Captains Cup Oz Tag and League day in Narrabri. The

boys teams found the pace and size of the Gunnedah and Boggabri teams a real challenge but the girls, full of speed

and agility won all but the final game.

The students looked sensational for the photos which were taken on Wednesday and we finished the week with the

annual cross country. Held this year at the show ground, the course designed by Mrs Cain was a popular one with both

students and spectators. Certificates and medals for each age group will be presented on assembly this week. Week 3

is shaping up to be another busy one!

NAPLAN

Today saw students in Years 3 & 5 begin the annual NAPLAN assessments. A one day of the year tests show exactly

that. How a student performs on that one day of the year, which will be influenced by:-

1. Sleep – please encourage your children to have a good night’s sleep prior to the tests.

2. Alertness – please encourage your children to eat well every day but particularly next week.

3. Degree of ‘settledness’ – please encourage your children to come to school in a calm, determined mood. Not wor-

ried about the test but ready to show what they can do.

Students sat the language and writing tests today and most were very happy with the set tasks.

NAIDOC Week

On Friday at 12.00pm we would like to invite any parent

or community member interested in assisting us to

develop a plan for our 2014 celebration of NAIDOC

week to attend a meeting in the Aboriginal Education

Officers room. Cliff and Leanne will outline a possible

Aboriginal dance program they are considering and we

would like input on other ideas such as our formal assem-

bly, other cultural activities and a possible senior student

excursion to Myall Creek.

Canberra Excursion Reminder

Finally don’t forget to make your Canberra excursion payment if paying by instalments. If you fall behind

it will place more financial pressure on families to come up with money later. Tonight is budget night and

unfortunately none of us know what money we will have later in the year to spend or what cutbacks are

proposed for education.

Mothers Day Stall—Thanks!

A huge thankyou to anyone who helped out with the Mother’s Day Stall in any way. It was a huge success! A special thanks

to all our wrappers who were there on the day and also those of you who donated extra gifts, cards and wrapping paper.

This Friday will be an out of uniform day in support of

Stewart House. Students who are out of uniform are

asked to bring along a gold coin donation.

* Please note. Friday is also circus workshop day so

students will need to wear comfortable and appropriate

clothing! Out of uniform day for Stewart House Each year 1,800 public school children in need of a break from their everyday life, come to Stewart House from many parts of NSW and the ACT. This week 3 of our students are attending with other students from Nar-rabri and Moree. During their stay, children are provided with optometric, dental and medical treatment if needed as well as emotional support. This is balanced with health and educational programs and out of school activ-ities to boost their self-esteem and to promote a healthier lifestyle. Children in the care of Stewart House attend a specific purpose school onsite for 8 days of their 12-day stay. The NSW Department of Education and Communi-ties provides the building and staffing support for this school. All others costs associated with the childrens' stay are met from charitable donations. Some of the

main donors over the years have been school children through fundraising and teachers who make regular donations through their pay. Your donation on Friday will help to keep this vital service going! Peter Carrett

CROSS COUNTRY 2014—THANKYOU!

It was wonderful to see so many parents at the cross country run last Friday!

I would like to especially thank the parents who volunteered for checkpoints along the track. The

organisation of these events is always made easier when we have parents who willingly help out.

Thanks again!
