2018 No. 29
God of grace and wisdom, you continually raise up good people who show with their lives that they follow
a holy and loving God. Let our lives be true to all that our faith teaches, so that we will grow
more and more in your son’s likeness. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Dear Parents Boys and Girls
Plenary Council The activities of The Plenary Council are gathering
momentum with dialogue and listening groups taking place
around Australia. There is information contained within this
newsletter about upcoming Parish Plenary Council Listening
and Dialogue Encounters. The purpose of the meetings will
be to “discern what God is asking of us in Australia at this
present time”.
A beautiful prayer has been written for the Plenary Council
but it can also serve as a prayer for all time.
Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost. Come, Holy Spirit of the great South Land. O God, bless and unite all your people in Australia and guide us on the pilgrim way of the Plenary Council. Give us the grace to see your face in one another and to recognise Jesus, our companion on the road. Give us the courage to tell our stories and to speak boldly of your truth. Give us ears to listen humbly to each other and a discerning heart to hear what you are saying. Lead your Church into a hope-filled future, that we may live the joy of the Gospel. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, bread for the journey from age to age. Amen.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation Congratulations to all those boys and girls who received the
sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last
Wednesday afternoon. They have been preparing for the big
day for quite some time and they were a credit to their
families and their teachers.
Gala Day All students in Years 3 and 4 participated in the Central
Coast Catholic School Netball and Soccer Gala Day
yesterday. We had several winning teams but, more
importantly, all the teams displayed high levels of sports
personship and represented St John Fisher with distinction.
A special mention to Cameron W and Matthew K, two of our
Year 6 boys who assisted preparing the teams and managing
on the day. Their maturity and helpfulness was noted and
appreciated by participants and spectators alike!
A great big thank you to the many parents who put their
hands up to act as team managers for the day. We would not
be able to participate in days such as these without many
parents giving up their valuable time. The gesture is very
much appreciated.
Good luck to the Year 5 and 6 girls who will be participating
in Friday’s Netball Gala Day. I am very confident that win,
lose or draw; they will play their games to the best of their
ability and display exemplary behaviour at all times.
God Bless,
Chris Burns
Principal

The Hard Truth:
There is no Christianity without a cross. And if we want to
follow, we have to take up the cross. That’s the hard truth.
Taking up the cross doesn’t mean coping well with sickness
or bad luck. We take up the cross when we choose sacrifice
we could avoid in order to help others. Here’s a brief
story: Mark was a volunteer when our school helped house
homeless families for a week. We needed volunteers to
come Sunday morning to help serve breakfast. Mark came
early, even though Saturday night had been a big night for
him with mates. Mark was the only student to show up. He
was tired. But he chose to sacrifice. And homeless families
had a better day because of it.
Living as a Christian means choosing little sacrifices like
Mark’s on a daily basis. Taking up the cross means giving up
your life each day in little ways. You take up your cross when
you help someone without having to be asked. You take up
your cross when you reach out to the unpopular kid in the
yard. You take up your cross when you sacrifice time with
friends for time at the soup kitchen or homeless shelter.
Like Peter, each day we must decide who we think Jesus is.
We show that he is our Messiah (the one who came to save
us) when we choose to sacrifice for others. Oddly enough, it
is through those little sacrifices that we really save our own
lives – and add to the lives of others.
When have you chosen a sacrifice – taken up a cross – that has shown others who Jesus is to you?
Reconciliation Congratulations to the children who received the Sacrament
of Reconciliation for the first time last Wednesday. We
pray that they come to treasure the sacrament of
Reconciliation. The peace of mind and soul which this
sacrament imparts to us is one for which there is no
substitute. It is a peace that flows from a certainty, rather
than from an unsure hope, that our sins have been forgiven
and that we are right with God.
Fundraising for Farmers
We will be having a Mufti Day (farm theme) in Week 10
(Thursday, the 27th of September). The children will be
encouraged to come as something or someone from a farm
and will also be encouraged to make a
donation towards our drought ridden
farmers. (The amount is up to you –
you may like to discuss this with your
child/children and encourage them
to use their own pocket money.)

UNIFORMS
Since changing uniform suppliers we have looked at the
current prices of the uniforms and have been able to reduce
certain items such as the new polo shirt, tights, socks and
hats. There was a typo on the letter sent to the parents of
2019 Kindergarten which had the Polos as $20.00 when in
fact they are $22.00 which is still a reduction of
$3.00. The new uniform Price List and Order Form is
available on our school website for your convenience.
Students return to Term 4 in full summer uniform.
