Despite valiant at- tempts to complete the program on the day the weather was against us at the outset with the rain lightly fal- ling during the morning. The carnival was abandoned at midday and every- one returned to school a little damp, but in good spirits. Thanks are ex- pressed to Kelleigh Evans for her bril- liant organization of the athletic car- nival and the team of teachers who headed down to the track early in the morning to set up all of the events. Visiting pre-service teachers from Victoria University supported Wembley staff in supervising events on the day. Many parents, sporting umbrellas and rain jackets, were pre- sent to cheer on our athletes as they rotated through sprints, hurdles, long jump, discus and triple jump. The Athletics will be re-scheduled to Friday morning, once again pending suitable weather conditions. Notes advising the re-scheduling of the Ath- letics were sent home on Tuesday afternoon and parents are asked to sign, date and return to school be- fore Friday morning. Spectators are welcome to attend once again to support the students as they com- plete the program. Year 6 Film Night The red carpet will be out on Thurs- day evening for the Year 6 film screening at the Sun Theatre. Due to the popularity of this event all tick- ets have been sold out well in ad- vance of the evening. The evening is planned to begin at 5pm on Thursday 5 June. Athletics Day Children and teachers headed off to Newport Athletics Track on Tuesday morning for the annual Wembley Ath-letics Carnival. Despite valiant at-tempts to complete the program on the day the weather was against us at the outset with the rain lightly fal-ling during the morning. Leave I’ll be on leave for the last three weeks of Term. During my absence Annmaree Jones will be the Acting Principal supported by Taxia, Kevin and Angela. I trust that you will all sup-port Annmaree and the team to ensure that the school runs smoothly during this time. Melanie Barger, class teacher of 6A, will also be taking leave for the last three weeks of term and Jeanette Shine will take responsibility for 6A during this time. I wish Melanie all the very best for her leave and welcome Jeanette to the teaching team.

Fundraising Event-Movie Night at Highpoint, ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Past Wembley student, Alana Meehan, is holding a fundraising event at Hoyts, Highpoint in order to raise funds for her expedition to Africa, through World Challenge. There, she will help local communities and test her limitations in or-der to help enrich the lives of others. Sports Snippets 2014

Cross Country Congratulations to the children who competed in the Divisional Cross Country last Thursday 29 May at Green Gully Reserve in Taylors Lakes. The children have been training very hard over the past few weeks and they all com-peted really well, I am proud of their efforts. The following children will progress to the Regional Cross Country on 12 June at Brimbank Park. I would like to wish them the best of luck for that day: Cassie Cameron, Charlie Freeman, Ivy Faehrmann, Hudson Schultz, Brooklyn Coppins, Kate Umseher, James Anthony, Isabella Toro, Bayley Camillo, Aiden Tester, Seth Crossman, Mason Wray and Tommy Smith. Cross country training will commence Thursday 5 June at lunch time. A big thank you to Deirdre for training the children and Mr Chig and Mrs Lourensz for their help with training.

Josh Giddey

Well done to Josh Giddey on making it to the last 40 boys for state tryouts in AFL. Josh will attend a camp over the weekend and if he is successful he will be chosen for the Victorian team Good luck Josh, can’t wait to hear how you went.
