Maximum Effort for Maximum Achievement’ Wednesday 24th July 2019 Diary Dates Just a reminder that the children return to school on Wednesday 4th September - Year 3 start at 9.00am on the first day of term. Everyone else is 8.35am onwards! School Dinners will be Week 1. Curriculum Share meetings are after school on Monday 9th September. Year 6 Disco Thank you very much to the Year 6 teachers for organising the Year 6 Leaversdisco. The children had great fun and left extremely hot, sweaty and tired! I hope they slept well! Grab a Bag Lunch Thank you very much to our Catering Team and Midday Assistants for our super Grab a Baglunch today. A lovely way to end the term! I know I say this all the time, but I simply cannot believe how quickly the year has passed and already we find ourselves saying goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 children and preparing to welcome our new Year 3s! We have had yet another excellent year which has seen developments in many areas across the board including; sport, music, art, assessment, pupil voice and teaching and learning in the foundation subjects, to name just a few areas. As you saw in the summary School Development Plan, the list is extensive and I could be here a long time naming all the areas! As you know, we have been waiting, with bated breath, for our Section 5 Ofsted inspection following on from our successful Section 8 inspection on 12th September. Unfortunately, our visitors did not arrive so we now await their visit in the Autumn Term, under a brand new inspection framework! I am extremely privileged and proud to be Headteacher of such an amazing school and have numerous people that I would like to thank, for their support, perseverance and enthusiasm, as it s the team that makes Buttsbury the excellent school that it is! First of all, starting with the most important people in the school - the children! They have worked amazingly hard and their wonderful behaviour and thirst for learning makes it an absolute privilege to teach them. The staff have worked incessantly hard once again and embraced the changes that have been introduced this year. The Governing Body members have also worked exceptionally hard, giving up lots of their own time for meetings and also to undertake their monitoring role. Laura, Andrea and Claire have been outstanding in their leadership of the FriendsAssociation and it has been a joy to work alongside them. Finally, I would like to thank you, the parents, for your loyalty and support, and for the trust you place in our hands. I would also like to particularly thank everyone who comes in to help, whether that be in class, with FriendsAssociation events, with our clubs, on visits, providing transport or to hear readers. Sadly, we also say farewell to some members of staff today. As you know, Mrs Sherwood and Ms Marshall are leaving us for pastures new. We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Cripps, one of our HLTAs, and to Miss Caldon and Mrs Braham, who are Learning Support Assistants. We wish them all continued success in their new ventures. We would also like to wish Mr Frazer a wonderful wedding day in August! As I have said before, Buttsbury Junior School is a wonderful community to be part of and the pride I have in my role is impossible to define in words! Have a wonderful Summer and let s hope the good weather continues! Big Summer Read Collaborative Art Project As part of a local schools creative partnership, Buttsbury Junior School was delighted to have collaborated with the local library to promote the love of reading. Linked to the Summer Reading challenge, Space Chase’, pupils created a space themed postcard that also recommends a book to other children. Each class chose a winning design and they will be displayed in Billericay Library for the duration of the reading challenge. Well done to Anika Gupta, Daisy Barker, Olly Sunderland, Olivia Gladwin, Oliver Sargood, Jack Cook, Ruby Torrens, Flora Noble, Jamie Weddell, Holly Nethercoat, Abby Caldon, Millie Waters, Molly Wright, Ruby Walsh, Sienna Coffill and Sophie Trainer. Your postcards will be displayed in Billericay Library. Why not pop along to check out the display over the holidays. Perhaps we can whet your appetites for a new book! Pop into Billericay Library to see our wonderful postcards and perhaps sign up to the Space Chaseat the same time! 50 Things to do at Home Well done to Jamie Jones (4C) who recently completed 30 Things at Home! Dont forget to keep working on your 50 things during the Summer break!

Wednesday 24th July 2019

Diary Dates Just a reminder that the children return to school on

Wednesday 4th September - Year 3 start at 9.00am on the first day of term. Everyone else is 8.35am onwards!

School Dinners will be Week 1. Curriculum Share meetings are after school on

Monday 9th September.

Year 6 Disco Thank you very much to the Year 6 teachers for

organising the Year 6 Leavers’ disco. The children had great fun and left extremely hot, sweaty and tired!

I hope they slept well!

Grab a Bag Lunch Thank you very much to our Catering Team and Midday

Assistants for our super ’Grab a Bag’ lunch today. A lovely way to end the term!

I know I say this all the time, but I simply cannot believe how quickly the year has passed and already we find ourselves saying goodbye to our wonderful Year 6

children and preparing to welcome our new Year 3s! We have had yet another excellent year which has seen developments in many areas across the board including;

sport, music, art, assessment, pupil voice and teaching and learning in the foundation subjects, to name just a few

areas. As you saw in the summary School Development Plan, the list is extensive and I could be

here a long time naming all the areas! As you know, we have been waiting, with bated breath, for our Section 5

Ofsted inspection following on from our successful Section 8 inspection on 12th September. Unfortunately, our visitors did not arrive so we now await their visit in

the Autumn Term, under a brand new inspection framework!

I am extremely privileged and proud to be Headteacher of such an amazing school and have numerous people that I would like to thank, for their support, perseverance and enthusiasm, as it’s the team that makes Buttsbury the excellent school that it is! First of all, starting with the

most important people in the school - the children! They have worked amazingly hard and their wonderful

behaviour and thirst for learning makes it an absolute privilege to teach them. The staff have worked

incessantly hard once again and embraced the changes that have been introduced this year. The Governing Body members have also worked exceptionally hard, giving up lots of their own time for meetings and also to undertake

their monitoring role. Laura, Andrea and Claire have been outstanding in their leadership of the Friends’ Association

and it has been a joy to work alongside them. Finally, I would like to thank you, the parents, for your loyalty and support, and for the trust you place in our hands. I would also like to particularly thank everyone who comes in to help, whether that be in class, with Friends’ Association

events, with our clubs, on visits, providing transport or to hear readers.

We would also like to wish Mr Frazer a wonderful

wedding day in August! As I have said before, Buttsbury Junior School is a

wonderful community to be part of and the pride I have in my role is impossible to define in words!

Have a wonderful Summer and let’s hope the good weather continues!

Big Summer Read Collaborative Art Project As part of a local schools creative partnership, Buttsbury Junior School was delighted to have collaborated with the

local library to promote the love of reading. Linked to the Summer Reading challenge, ‘Space Chase’,

pupils created a space themed postcard that also recommends a book to other children. Each class chose a

winning design and they will be displayed in Billericay Library for the duration of the reading challenge.

Well done to Anika Gupta, Daisy Barker, Olly Sunderland, Olivia Gladwin, Oliver Sargood, Jack Cook, Ruby Torrens,

Flora Noble, Jamie Weddell, Holly Nethercoat, Abby Caldon, Millie Waters, Molly Wright, Ruby Walsh, Sienna Coffill and

Sophie Trainer. Your postcards will be displayed in Billericay Library. Why not pop along to check out the display over the

the same time!

50 Things to do at Home

Well done to Jamie Jones (4C) who

recently completed 30 Things at Home!

Don’t forget to keep working on your 50 things during the Summer break!

Afternoon Tea This week saw the very final Afternoon Tea of 2018 -

2019 with a handful of children who’d missed their turn for one reason or another. It was all the more special as it

was the last one of the year and the children seemed to enjoy themselves even more, having had to wait all year for their turn! Afternoon Tea will resume in September

2019 but, for now, The Buttsbury Hotel is taking a Summer break!

Pride of Buttsbury Award A street party was held on 29th April 2011 to celebrate the marriage of Prince William to Catherine Middleton. Buttsbury Junior School helped

make this a fantastic community event. From money raised at the event a ‘Pride of Buttsbury’ award has been set up. This will be

awarded every year, for 9 years, to one boy and one girl. Nominations are requested from all Buttsbury staff including; teachers, teaching

assistants, office, kitchen & midday staff. Rather than award a child for academic or sporting achievements, this is a community award to recognise one boy and one girl from any year group in the school,

who has shown one or more of the following qualities: Has been there for other people, is kind and thoughtful,

always tries their best, supported the community or a member of the community, and keeps smiling through no matter what

happens. The final decision is made by the Street Party Committee members.

This year, the Pride of Buttsbury was again sponsored by Ashton Charters Estate Agents who also provided a small award for our

winners and a little gift for all our nominees. The children nominated for this year’s award are:

Annie Jerreat Ruby Toll Eliza Hobden PJ Fulker Connor Boyce Joshua Bateman Max Baker Harry Gilbert Archie Cushing Aaron Bickerstaff Louis Burridge Max Johnston Blake Webb Alfie Woolmer Harrison Dempsie Caela McMorris Amelia Slater Ava Harlow Tayla James Advika Soni Amy Tear Olivia Tappin Emma Tribe Ellie Lovell Lani Coughlan Ella Bogen Isla Joyce Christopher Markham Archie Connolly-Cole

Congratulations to all our nominees! I understand that the overall decision was tougher than ever to make but I am delighted to announce this year’s Pride of Buttsbury Award

winners are Caela McMorris and Archie Connolly-Cole. Caela was selected for undertaking voluntary work to help improve the

environment and Archie was selected for always being cheerful and polite and never giving anything less than his best.

Thank you to Heather Stuart, Nikki Dole and Jane Whitaker for organising the award once again.

Thank you also to Heather, Jane and Mark (Ashton Charters) who presented the awards during our assembly on Monday.

Parent Questionnaire - Assessment and Reporting Thank you very much to everyone who completed the short questionnaire regarding the changes we made to our systems

for assessment and reporting. As you can see, the feedback was very positive and this was mirrored in the general comments too. We will be tweaking the reports slightly to include the outcomes from the previous academic year so

hopefully they will be even more helpful. There were also some very good suggestions, for example, providing feedback from the Enrichment sessions which we will endeavour to include too.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions regarding any aspect of your child’s schooling, please don’t hesitate to contact their class teacher, year group leader or me.

This morning we presented 255 children with 100% attendance awards for the Summer Term. This is an amazing number of children so well done to them all!

Very special congratulations go to Luke Furness who has not had one single day off school since

Well done also to Oliver Wiles who was highly commended, having only had half a day off sick since joining Buttsbury Junior School in September 2015.
