Tag Rugby Tournament
Last week a team travelled to the Test Park to participate in a tag rugby competition. Our team consisted of a group of children from Years 5 and 6. The children were brilliant, and we were very unlucky not to win the final, as they were narrowly beaten by Oakwood, after having taken a narrow lead!

Congratulations Fairisle Junior
On Tuesday I received the latest information from the Local Authority’s Schools’ Monitoring
Group, which has judged our school as Good. The group is chaired by the Principal Officer
for Education & Early Years and consists of inspectors, city officers and the Teaching School
Headteachers. We are very pleased at this outcome.
Year 4 News
On Friday 11th March, Year 4 had an amazing day at Marwell Zoo. The sun was shining which brought all of the animals out - the tigers particularly enjoyed basking in the sun. We had the opportunity to get up close and personal with a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach and come face to face with a Royal Python. The children were all very adventurous and enjoyed the chance to touch such unusual creatures. Even the adults took part (although Miss O'Shea won't be buying a cockroach as a pet anytime soon!). Everyone agreed that it was a fantastic trip and we just wish that the day had been longer.
Children Participate in Autism Awareness Week 2016
Last week the children learned more about autism in assemblies as part of the National
Autistic Society ‘Schools Autism Awareness Week’. We learned about what autism is and
what it might be like to be a child with autism. They also gained some fantastic insights
talking about friends or family members with autism.
Childline and the NSPCC joined us and ran workshops about staying safe and happy. The
children also learned about different types of abuse and the importance of talking with a
trusted adult. They will be back soon to work in Years 3 and 4.

Year 6 Test Week
During the first few days of the week beginning Monday 9th May, our Year 6 children will be taking their SATs tests. They are really well prepared and even Mrs Saunders, Miss Boler, Miss Donovan and Mr McVittie are managing to crack the occasional smile at the moment (just joking!) The timetable is as follows:
Monday 9th May Reading test Tuesday 10th May Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Paper 1 (Short answer questions) Paper 2 (Spelling test) Wednesday 11th May Maths Paper 1 (Arithmetic test) Maths Paper 2 (Reasoning test) Thursday 12th May Maths Paper 3 (Reasoning test)
Once again the children will not be taking a writing test as such this year. Instead we will be providing a number of pieces of writing which cover a range of genres for each child. These may be moderated by the Local Authority and our teachers will also compare judgements with colleagues across the Federation to support consistency in teacher assessments.
After the Easter holiday we have four weeks leading up to the tests. It is really vital that the children attend school every day (except in cases of severe illness). We will be writing to Year 6 parents giving a few tips for the week itself and further information!
As in past years we will be holding a special free Breakfast Club during the week so that Year 6 children can come to school earlier, settle down to a hearty breakfast and chat with their friends and teachers in a calm environment. We do hope that every child will take advantage of this.
As far as we know, the results will be available sometime on Tuesday 5th July. I will confirm this to parents closer to the time.

research. To support him, please go to www.justgiving.com/jack-john-snowdonia. Good luck!
Attendance and Punctuality — Spring Term 2016
I am very pleased to report the following children who have attended school on-time every day this
half term and throughout the entire term since Christmas, as well as those who are well on their
way to a complete year’s 100% attendance. I would like to say a huge ‘well done’ and
congratulations to all of them (and their families of course!) especially given the number of
different illnesses over the past few weeks. Our number of late children has also improved.
The following 181 children came to school on time every day during this half term from Tuesday
24 February to Thursday 2 April (170 in 2015) and those 108 children in bold type
attended on-time every day for the entire term (95 in 2015). Those 46 children in Bold Italics have
been to school on time every day since September (35 in 2015):
Attendance since September is 96.5% - This is VERY GOOD!
Very well done, keep up the great work!
Enjoy the break.
(Don’t forget to enjoy some chocolate!!!)
See you at 8.50 a.m. on Monday 11th April
Thank you for all your support this term.
