Markets &Applications

HighwaysRepairs to highway structures, roads, bridges, parapets, tunnels and viaducts.

BuildingsRepairs to residential, commercial, high-rise and low-rise buildings. Fire damaged concretestructures, concrete beams, balconies, walkways, columns, walls and soffits. Protectivecoatings for buildings in areas of exposure.

MarineRepairs to many types ofstructure subject to seaimmersion, wave action, continuous wetting anddrying. Sea defences, break waters, sea walls, cliff stabilisation, piers, jetties, lifeboat ramps, pontoons.

Car ParksRepairs to multi-storey carpark structures, concretebeams, columns, soffits and walls. Protective coatings and structuralstrengthening.

Power StationsGeneral concrete repairs, structural strengthening and encasement of steelsections, pylons, chimneys, cooling towers.

Concrete Repair and ProtectionReinforced concrete can be a highly durablestructural material requiring little or nomaintenance. However, it is now recognised thatwithout correct design, mixing, placement andcuring, the durability of reinforced concrete maybe impaired. The repair of concrete structureshas been a key activity for over 30 years in theconstruction industry and Weber products havebeen specified as a solution from the start.

Now the causes of concrete decay are better understood, it is clear that if more carehad been taken at the time of construction byfollowing good practice and using better qualitymaterials then far fewer repairs would benecessary now.

Concrete can be affected by causes that arephysical, mechanical or chemical in nature.

• Typical physical effects are leaking of wateror frost attack due to porous concrete andplastic shrinkage cracking due to poor curing.

• Typical mechanical causes are overloadingof the structure or impact damage.

• Typical chemical effects include corrosion ofsteel, acid rain and the action of chemicals.

Weber has a wide portfolio of products designedto facilitate repair in most circumstances, ranging from handplaced materials for localisednon-structural repairs, to flowable or spraysolutions for mass structural replacement.

Product: weber.cem spray DS

Client: The Environment Agency

Contractor: Jackson Civil Engineering

Applicator: Currall Lewis & Martin (Construction) Limited

In the refurbishment of Chertsey Lock, on the River Thames, Weber supplied highspecification weber.cem spray DS structuralrepair concrete.

After removal of the concrete, resin injectionworks to 200 linear metres of cracked walls was carried out. The freshly sprayed walls weredragged back with a feather edge rule tolevel the material and lightly sprayed with

water after the initial set of around one hour, to provide a good surface for the final pass of30-40mm of weber.cem spray DS. A furtherprocess of levelling was required beforesealing the surface to the specified finish.

weber.cem spray DS has been especiallydesigned for dry process spray application togive high early strength in 2 – 3 hours, reducedrebound and maximum application thickness.

Client: The Highways Agency

Contractor: Balvac

Deansbrook Viaduct was badly damaged inApril 2011 when fire broke out in a scrap yardbeneath. Concrete repairs, parapet andbearing replacement, and new bridge jointswere essential to ensure the continued safetyof the structure.

The viaduct was constructed with reinforcedprecast concrete beams and when subjectedto the severe heat, the soffits of the concretebeams spalled and delaminated. The gapsthat formed between the beams were filledwith weber.cem spray DS, structural repair

concrete which is ideally suited for the repair offire damaged concrete structures.

weber.cem spray RS, was used where a morerapid strength development was required, it isparticularly valuable when application ishampered by restricted access and difficulttime constraints.

The installation of temporary bearing propsrequired the use of weber.tec EP mortar, a high-strength epoxy resin mortar for repairs, beddingand fixing. This high performance mortar isstronger than concrete in less than 24 hours.
