Activities for the week commencing – 13 th April 2020 We would love to see you some of these activities this week. If you are able to upload them on tapestry we would love to see them! English and Communication and Language Can you practice rhyming? Say a word and think of another word that rhymes with it. Challenge: could you make a rhyming rap… I know a cat who lives in a hat! Can you practice your best cursive handwriting by writing the letters of the alphabet in lower case? Can you say the letter names and the sounds they make? Have a go labelling everything in your kitchen with post-it notes! How many can you label in 10 minutes? Parents - remember we use our phonic sounds when spelling so words may look a little different. It’s about hearing all the sounds in the word. E.g. plait, frij, spoon, taibl Can you hide a toy somewhere in your house and write clues or instructions on how someone else could find it? Watch them read/listen to your clues and find your toy. Can you help cook dinner? Chop any vegetables or mix ingredients? Can you draw a picture of the dinner you cooked and write about what you did to help make it? Challenge: Could you write a recipe of the ingredients you used to make the dinner and the steps you followed to make it? Phonics Revise your initial sounds (phase 2) in your diary r, h, b, f, l, j, and digraphs (phase 3) Maths Can you find a selection of socks in your house? Maybe a few pairs from each member of the house. How many pairs are there? How many socks are there in total?

many socks are there in total? How quickly can you pair them back together? Can you time yourself and see if you get faster

when you do it a second time?

Can you make a pattern- you could use paint, coloured pencils, buttons or anything! E.g.

Can you make your own pictures and play silly soup (the children will know what this is!). You need to draw pictures of words that you can

segment and blend. E.g., cat, fish, rain

Can you robot talk words for your child to try and blend back together e.g., “Can you get

your b-a-g ?”

Can you have a look for different numbers you can see if your house? Can you take a photo of

the numbers you see?Which room in the house has the most

numbers?

Can you fill different bottles and cups with water? Can you make different capacities –

full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty, emptyPersonal, social and emotional

Can you make your own board game and play it with someone in your family.

Can you follow instructions/rules. Play Simon says and listen carefully to the instructions.

Can you think about any rules that you have in your house? Are there any the same as the

rules we have in school and are any different?

Gingerbread a charcter from your favourite story. Draw a gingerbread outline and write how the main character feels during the story in the inside of the gingerbread man and what he looks like on the outside of the gingerbread man.

PECan you blindfold someone in your family. and direct them around your house? They need to listen to your instructions. Then they need to

do the same for you.

Can you think about 5 different activities you can do for 1 minute?

How many times can you throw and catch something, how many star jumps can you do,

how many bunny hops can you do? After a rest, repeat the 5 activities and see if you have improved how many you can do in

one minute.

Keep up all the great exercise and following Joe Wicks in the morning.

Could you do a wake up and shake up dance (L).

Have fun making an obstacle course with chairs, can you crawl under it, zig zag between

them?Understanding the world

Can you shut your eyes and put different smells under your nose (coffee, soap, pepper…) what can you smell?

Look at everyone in your family, what similarities and differences can you see? Do you have the same colour eyes or hair?

Take 4 ice cubes from the freezer and put them in different places around the house (on a plate to avoid puddles). E.g. one at the front door, one at the back floor, one on your hand and one in the fridge. Make a prediction about which one will melt first and which will melt last and see if you are right at the end.

Expressive art and design Can you use different media (crayons, paint,

paper) to make an Easter picture?Challenge: Can you make an Easter bonnet?

Can you sing your favourite song?

Have fun creating your dream Easter egg, what would it have on it?

Draw a new front cover for your favourite story. What characters would you draw on it,

what would they be doing?
