Year 4 – Week beginning Monday 23 rd March Hi everyone! I hope that you and your families are all well and happy. I intend to write, every week, a list of suggestions for the learning which you could do during the week. I am missing you all already and look forward to hearing from you – please use [email protected] and they will send your emails to me! I can help with any difficulties with your learning and it will just be lovely to hear from you! Lesson 1 – WALT: Identify 2D shapes and their properties (This planning is taken from White Rose Scheme of Learning for Year 4 which is online). You can make these images larger to see the detail! The second page contains the challenges which we normally have in class after your fluency activities). You could learn the names of 2D shapes (polygons are 2D or flat shapes with straight sides) and what is special about them (their properties). Including kite, rhombus, parallelogram and trapezium. See twinkl 2D shapes word mat. You can do a ‘who am I quiz?’ and see if your family can guess the answer! Lesson 2 – WALT: Explore 3D shapes Learn the names of 3D shapes and what is special about them (their properties). Including cylinder, square-based pyramid, triangular-based pyramid, triangular prism and tetrahedron. Then play 3D shapes and properties matching cards from twinkl or design your own playing cards with these on! Lesson 3 – WALT: Identify lines of symmetry

Year 4 – Week beginning Monday 23 rd March

Hi everyone!

Here are this week’s suggestions:

Maths

Maths – lots of practice on times tables and calculation through Times Tables Rockstar, My Mini Maths, J2blast on BGFL, Topmarks – Hit the Button / Daily 10

Learning for the next two weeks should focus on shapes and their properties.

Lesson 1 – WALT: Identify 2D shapes and their properties

(This planning is taken from White Rose Scheme of Learning for Year 4 which is online).

Lesson 2 – WALT: Explore 3D shapesLearn the names of 3D shapes and what is special about them (their properties). Including cylinder, square-based pyramid, triangular-based pyramid, triangular prism and tetrahedron. Then play 3D shapes and properties matching cards from twinkl or design your own playing cards with these on!

Lesson 3 – WALT: Identify lines of symmetry

You could create a picture which has a line of symmetry – which means it will be exactly the same on both sides, like it was in a mirror.

Lesson 4 WALT: Create symmetrical figures

Page 2: €¦  · Web viewMaths – lots of practice on times tables and calculation through Times Tables Rockstar, My Mini Maths, J2blast on BGFL, Topmarks – Hit the Button / Daily 10

You can download squared paper from the internet for this!

Lesson 5 – Look around your house and find different 2D and 3D shapes and symmetrical shapes.

English

Read – as much as you can! Books, online information, factfiles, magazines – whatever you have available! Remember you can search for useful information through kiddle which is the safe search engine we use in school.

Here are some suggestions for reading and writing:

Write a book review (template on twinkl) or a blog about a book. Interview an author. Perform the text to a sibling or pet!

Use twinkl (free login) to find LKS2 Comprehension or any Year 4 SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) activities,

Use Pobble 365 (look underneath the pictures for activities/ questions).

Use Literacy Shed for fantastic short videos like the one we watched about the diving giraffes and the octopi!

Keep writing – any theme, any genre! Focus on correct punctuation, subheadings or paragraphs depending on genre. Use Capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes and speech marks correctly.

Grammar focus: pronouns – possessive and personal (powerpoints on twinkl)

Science – Electricity

Produce a poster for how we should use electricity safely.

Learn what conductors and insulators are through using https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zj44jxs

Music

Listen to lots of different types of music. Which do you prefer and why? Which kinds of music might be used as soundtrack for different types of films?

Can you identify different instruments? What kind of effect do they have?

RE – Lent

In the Season of Lent, Christians remember that they are called to be followers of Jesus. The story of the call of the disciples is helpful to consider this.

What can you remember about the call of the disciples?Read the story of the call of the fishermen in Luke 5:1-11 using an online bibleCreate a table about these calls to include the names and occupations of the disciples, what Jesus said to them and how they responded.

Page 3: €¦  · Web viewMaths – lots of practice on times tables and calculation through Times Tables Rockstar, My Mini Maths, J2blast on BGFL, Topmarks – Hit the Button / Daily 10

What do these stories tell you about the type of people Jesus chose to be his disciples? Why do you think these people responded to the call of Jesus to follow him?

Read and dramatise the story of the call of the rich man in Matthew 19: 16-22.

Why did he want to follow Jesus? Why do you think Jesus asked him to give up everything?

In the story it is not what the rich man had done in the past that was important to Jesus, but what he could do in the future. Why then did the rich man go away sad?

In the end, what was stopping the young man being a disciple of Jesus? What do you think might stop people today from following Jesus?

Write a phone-call conversation between Jesus and the rich young man. What might Jesus say to him and what might the rich young man say in response?

Creative Curriculum – Mountains and Rivers in the UK

Research information about Ben Nevis or Snowdon. You could produce a poster or a powerpoint presentation to show your information.

Draw a mountain landscape.

ICT – why not try creating a stopframe animation using an ipad if you have one!

Don’t forget to… dance, walk, cook, garden, paint, draw, colour, create and look after yourselves.

Love from Miss Wayman x
