Fine Motor Skills
During lockdown all pupils will have had less need to write and exercise their fine motor skills. It is important that we keep these skills going.
Soak some spaghetti in hot water and food colouring of choice until the spaghetti is soft. Alternatively, you can cook the spaghetti. Add a teaspoon of oil to the spaghetti before you drain it. Leave it to cool.
Using safety/ child’s scissors (relative to the age of the child) chop the spaghetti into tiny pieces. You may want to see who can fill a small bowl with tiny pieces first.
Relaxation 1: As part of their global Healing and Education through the Arts (HEART) program for children living in stressful situations, Save the Children shares ‘drama-based relaxation exercises’ on their site at: stress-busters-from-our-heart-program.pdf (savethechildren.org)
Calming music 2: Helping individuals to find soothing examples may lead to satisfying choices not previously considered e.g. Alicia Keys playing Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’ at : Alicia Keys - Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” at the Kobe & Gianna Celebration of Life [Full] - YouTube
