We are going to start a new topic this week: Algebra – Number Rules.

Remember the BIDMAS rule.

Brackets

Indices

Division

Multiplication

Addition

Subtraction

You must follow this order when attempting any questions.

e.g. 15 + (7 x 3) =

You must do the multiplication first and then the addition.

So 7 x 3 = 21 ,

15 + 21 = 36.

This week we are going to focus on one verb, vocabulary, reading and a small written task.

Go over the vocabulary on page 160 of the Abair Liom book and know these well by the end of the week. Below is a picture of this page for anybody who forgot to take their book home. Test yourself on these words at the end of the week to see how well you are learning them.

In relation to the verbs, we are going to go back over the irregular verbs for now and learn them well in all three tenses for all people i.e. mé, tú, sé, sí, sinn, sibh, siad.

These can be found on page 180 of the Abair Liom book. Below is a picture of the verbs we are going to be working on this week and some questions for you change into the correct tense.

This week we are going to focus on the following verb: Tabhair.

Please know the mé, tú, sé, sí, sinn, sibh, siad and the question for this verb in all three tenses.

Test yourself at the end of the week to see how well you know these.

These will be very beneficial to you in secondary school.

This picture below will help you identify the tense the verb should be in:

2. Click on the ‘click here’ button which you can see above.3. You will be taken to a page with a grid, fill it out like this:

4. Click on the ‘eye’ icon at the bottom right of the image above, this will open the book for you.

5. Read the ‘Rivers’ chapter on pages 75 -77. These pages cover fact files of different rivers around the world.

6. Continuing on from last week, we are going to do a project. Your task is to create a project on a famous river around the world. I would like you to complete this on one page or multiple pages stuck together. Please do not do it in book format. The reason for this is because when we finish the projects next week, I want you to send a picture of your project to the school email address, [email protected]. I will then put the picture of your project up on our school website. This way you all will be able to see each other’s projects.

7. If you are unsure about how to do this, please email the school email address and I will get back to you with more instructions.

Please see the extra document titled: “6th Class we are writers support resources” located on our website next to where you downloaded this document.

We are going to continue writing our piece for the Scoil Naomh Cholmcille ‘We are writers’ book.

This book will be very special in years to come, so make sure to write your best piece.

The deadline for the submission of your piece is the 29th of May. You are welcome to submit two pieces if you wish.

It is very important that all the children in 6th class submit a piece for the book we are making. When you look back at this book in years to come, you will be so delighted to see your own memories of COVID-19 in the book alongside the memories of all your friends.

Test yourself on these spellings:
