AVID 8 Makes College Research Fun!

We recently completed our College Vision Boards! The 8th grade AVID students have been working hard on researching specific information about potential colleges to attend. After narrowing down their search, they chose one school and gathered informationto create a vision board that included the school's population, majors they offer, tuition costs, clubs and activities, etc. They turned out so cool!! We are also continuing to use the tutorial process in class to assist in academic achievement!

AVID 9 Students Busy Enhancing Communication Skills and Goal-Setting

With the start of the new semester, AVID 9 reflected on the goals that they had for first semester, and decided what their new goals would be for second semester. Our focus for this month is about learning how to communicate properly and advocate for ourselves when we need to. We have been discussing how to ask teachers questions when students need help in class. Additionally, we have been talking about what effective speaking and presenting looks like. The students will be giving formal presentations in a couple of weeks for our AVID class. They will practice their communication, listening, and inquiry skills, while also learning how to create a clear and informative Google Slides presentation.

AVID 10 Students Become Geniuses

Sophomores are researching a topic that they are passionate about, during their "Genius Hour." They have a goal of researching topics they find interesting, and become geniuses in those topics. Once they have become geniuses in their topic, they will create a presentation and practice formally presenting to their classmates about their interests.

AVID 12 Preparing for eMentor Field trip

AVID 12 student have a unique opportunity to participate in a seven week program called eMentors.  As participants of the program, students are matched with employees from CH Robinson, exchange weekly email messages, have the opportunity to meet with mentors and tour the CH Robinson World Head Quaterters in Eden Prairie (March).   The eMentors program gives students real life experience and a platform to express themselves in a professional manner.  Students have already received their first email from their mentors!

This week we have a guest speaker from Fanberg Auctioneering talking with us about etiquette, resiliency, and entrepreneurship.
