Our work with families with young children became known as Child Care Aware of Washington—Family Call Center. We grew from serv-ing only King County to serving families statewide; our call volume tripled! Our work supporting licensed early learning professionals became known as Early Achievers. We started reaching out to all licensed providers to engage in focused training by joining the Quality Rating and Improvement System. Our commitment to social justice deepened as we continued working to undo the inequities of race and class which are major obstacles to reaching our goal of giving every child a great start. We are also revamping our website so that it will be a better re-source for families, providers, and decision makers. Until recently, my feelings towards financial statements had been, at best, lukewarm. But as a new Board Member with Child Care Resources, I knew it was my duty to understand the organization’s financials. And as a graduate student in an Executive Master of Public Administration pro-gram, I knew I had to take several classes on finance. So when I got an assignment to analyze an organization’s finances, I jumped at the chance to take an in-depth look at CCR’s finances. Thankfully I had excellent professors for my financial classes so I knew what to look for when I sat down with CCR’s most recent audit. I read and re-read all 29 pages until I got a clear picture of what was going on. Over-all, the audit reflected a financially sound organization. The audit also showed some interesting things. First, CCR had no debt. Second, CCR was well positioned to pay off its current liabilities, which is crucial. Third, governments at the federal, state and county level, as well as 15 cities believe in and invest in CCR. Forth, 82% of CCR’s expenses went to cover the cost of programs with only 12% to administration and 6% to fundrais-ing, which shows that CCR truly invests in its programs. I received an ‘A’ on my assignment and, more importantly, I learned firsthand that CCR is not only a solid organization, but it’s a good investment.

Child Care Resources CCR promotes equity for children, community stability and school readiness as a Washington State leader with a King County focus. We work with families, caregivers and provid-ers and collaborate with community partners to ensure that every child has a great start.

We deliver programs and advocate for policy – both inde-pendently and in collaboration with partners – that increase the ability of families, caregivers, and providers to nurture the social emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of young children.

We exercise leadership in the early learning community using our competitive advantages of: field expertise and cultural competence that allows us to play a translator role between caregivers and policy makers; and our ability to leverage our expertise and data in a responsive way to inform decision-making.

We have a diverse funding strategy, and greatly appreciate the support of individuals, foundations, corporations and governments.
