splendid old gentle ¬ man had been in feeble health for Some- time but the fatal illness begun Thurs ¬ day of last week when he was taken with an aggravated caso of flux His weak constitution could not withstand this drain on the system and by Sunday It was well known that the end was close at hand On that day his sons Carroll n and Leslie M Reid who were in New York were telegraphed for and they arrived in time to see their father alive but unconscious Besides these Mr Reid is survived by his wife Miss Anna Reid and Messrs James C and June II Reid It was one of tho happiest families tho writer ever knew until death entered its threshold some years ago when a daughter Mrs Jen ¬ nie Allen was taken to the realms above A few years later another daughter Mrs Helen Conway was called hence and now tho head of the family has gone to join the silent ma ¬ jority Three deaths in so short a time have wrought a change in tho family circle and the vacant chairs tell silently tho sad story that the grim reapers visits havo been distressingly frequent Nearly CO years ago Mr Reid married Miss America Bailey sis ¬ ter of Judge James P Bailey of this place and had he lived until Sept 16 they would have celebrated their golden wedding All of his long life had been spent in Lincoln county where ho was loved and honored by all No man with warmer heart or more generous Im ¬ pulses ever lived and there were none more honorable and upright He will be sadly missed in tho community ho lived in so long and where Uncle Sam was a general favorite An immense crowd gathered at his lato home Wed- nesday ¬ afternoon where a song was sung and Eld Mills offered a fervent prayer Tho Masons of which order Mr Reid was n valued member then took charge of tho remains and with beautiful ceremony peculiar to that order laid them to rest In tho little city of tho dead at Hustonville It was a sad day in the history of that end of Lincoln county and business was prac ¬ tically suspended during the funeral services Surely a good man has been token away May the sod ho gently on his grave Deceased was a brother of Mr John M Reid who died hero a number of years ago He has a broth ¬ er Mr William Reid who lives in Up ¬ per Garrard and a sister tho aged mother of Dr Louis McMurtry of Lou ¬ isville Dr James Reid father of Mr Forestus Reid was a brother and Mrs Frank Read and Mrs Lee
