1 Samuel 3:1-10 (NIV) “The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions. One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the LORD, where the ark of God was. Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, ‘Here I am.’ And he ran to Eli and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’ But Eli said, ‘I did not call; go back and lie down.’ So he went and lay down. Again the LORD called, ‘Samuel!’ And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’ ‘My son,’ Eli said, ‘I did not call; go back and lie down.’ Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. A third time the LORD called, ‘Samuel!’ And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’ Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, ‘Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, “Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’”

    BRINGING IN THE LIGHT

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP “A Light in the Darkness” William P. Gorton

CALL TO WORSHIP: L: Welcome God’s people to God’s house; it is God’s house, not because of where it is or even because of the sacred beauty it possesses. It is God’s house because we are gathered together in the name of the Lord. P: We have come today to hear God’s voice so that we may discern God’s will and the direction for our lives. L: God speaks to us in many ways; through the scriptures, music, songs, and through people and circumstances placed before us. A: May our gathering today be part of the message God is speaking to us and may we not only hear God’s voice, but be inspired to follow where God leads! Amen.

HYMN “O Zion, Haste” No. 443

CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (In Unison)

Lord God, you have been speaking to humanity since the beginning of time. Your voice has come to us in many ways. Today we gather seeking your direction for our lives. As we do, we admit that we have heard you in the past and have failed to always heed your voice. We have also placed expectations on where and when you will speak to us and expectations on what you will say. We pray you will open our hearts and minds to hear you and that you will speak to us in ways we can understand. We further ask that you will not allow

  • us to discount your voice and will empower us to follow your directions. In hope and expectation we pray, amen.

    PASTORAL PRAYER

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

    God In America…

W.C.S.F. is sponsoring an all-church study in Souers Hall to view and discuss in depth the recent PBS documentary exploring how our national concept of religious freedom was born, nourished, and maintained through the past 400 years. This six part series explores how religious ideas and spiritual experiences shaped America’s public life beginning with the first European settlement to the 2008 presidential elections through interweaving documentary coverage, interviews with religious historians, and historical dramatizations. Sunday through February 19th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (skipping January 29th). The series is open to everyone. If you have questions, please contact Randy Dallas, (623) 537-7944.

  • WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

    PROFESSOR PAUL TIPTON

In the Hebrew Scripture we read, “Do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God”. Different people sometimes interpret what is right in various ways, however. We are offering a three-week course continuing on January 18th and 25th after the Wednesday evening meals, to cover the top ethical theories that show us what is right and therefore how we should live. Christians have been able to deepen their spiritual experience and refine their consciences with studying such theories. Philosophy Professor Paul Tipton will be leading us through our examination. Please join us! The annual meeting for the church will be on Sunday, February 19th, at 11:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. This is when new officers and the budget will be voted on. Of special interest, we will be discussing future plans which may include the purchase of property – you will not want to miss it!

    TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY

Tuesday morning Bible study continues at 10:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Michaela Chase is leading a five-week journey on discovering God’s vision for your life and your unique gifts from God. The class will investigate and discover how God has made you

unique, what He has made you for and His destiny for you. Come and join this class to discover, learn and experience a fresh perspective on your life no matter what stage of life you are in. Allow Him to shine His light on you and through you in all that you do.

    WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS

Join us on Wednesday evenings, for a multitude of activities and opportunities for the whole family. Dinner of Oven Fried Chicken, Fries, Baked Beans, Rolls, and Cake will be served at 6:00 p.m. A host of programs will begin at 6:45 p.m. See the bulletin for more information or call the office at (623) 935-3411.

  • THE 4C CHOIRS

The 4C (Children’s Community Christian Choir) is really two choirs in one. V.I.P. (Voices In Praise), 4 – 8th grade meets on Wednesday from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Joyful Noise, K - 3rd grade, meets on Wednesday evening in the Fireside Room from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. For information on how to join, contact Sue Kujawski at [email protected]. Remember, membership in 4C is open to all, whether or not you belong to the church, we are a community Christian choir.

    THE CLP CAFÉ

Looking for a place to unwind and socialize on Wednesdays? The CLP Café will be available from 5:00 – 7:45 p.m. in Souers Hall. You can come and just relax, use Wi-Fi, work on homework, play cards, or have a cup of coffee “on the house.” This is a come and go event to enjoy

when bringing children to activites or catching up with friends. Hope to see you there!

    REC ROOM!

G.O. Kids (God’s Own Kids) has a Rec Room in Classroom 3 on Wednesday evenings for grades K – 5. There is supervised recreation, games and activities from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. before dinner and again from 6:30 - 7:00 p.m. before G.O.Kids.

    NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

While visiting our church, we hope that you have felt welcome, and that you have also found our worship services and pastors’ messages to be relevant and enjoyable. We believe that The Church at Litchfield Park offers many opportunities for everyone. If you’d like more information about our church or if you’re considering membership, please attend a brief orientation TODAY, immediately

following the 9:15 a.m. service in the Fireside Room. New members will be received on Sunday, January 22nd, at 9:15 or 10:30 a.m. Please contact Peggy Vasiloff, membership chair at 623-935-6516 or [email protected] if you have any questions.

  • COME SEE ART ON CLOTH

Enjoy a visual feast of heirloom garments modeled by four generations of the Henline family. You can sample homemade goodies and a beverage at your table while you watch these stunning works of art on cloth. Families and friends are welcome. This fundraiser is sponsored by Circle Three on Saturday, January 28th, at 2:00 p.m. in Souers Hall. Tickets are $10.00 each, plus raffle opportunities at the door. The proceeds support the missions of the church. Tickets are on sale in the breezeway after all three services.

    FEELING THE SQUEEZE?

If you are feeling crowded at the 9:15 a.m. service, please try the 8:00 a.m. traditional service where you will find ample parking and lost of elbow room.

    CHURCH THRIFT SHOP

The Church at Litchfield Park Thrift Shop will be open on Thursday, January 19th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monies raised are used to fund various projects for the church and missions. Donations are always welcome and they accept almost everything, asking only that it be clean and in working order. Donations may be dropped off Wednesday, January 18th, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or you may contact Monica Sproull (623) 935-2656 or Millie Ezell (623) 935-3953 to schedule another time. • INFORMATION BOOTH

Members of the Women’s Christian Service Fellowship (W.C.S.F.) will be greeting you at the information booth in the breezeway and in front of the church during the month of January. Please drop by the booth for information, including visitor brochures, campus maps, and current newsletters. If you are visiting, we would like to meet you and answer your questions! If you are interested in attending a membership orientation, contact Peggy Vasiloff (623) 935-6516 or [email protected].

    THE 3F CLUB:

    FOOD, FELLOWSHIP, FUN

Look to the new year for a great new fellowship opportunity! You’ll have the chance to join with couples and singles of all ages to create a dinner club. You will then be paired with three other family units made up of couples or singles. Once a month for the following four months, each couple or individual in your personal “club” will host dinner, and other members of your club will assist. This will give folks the opportunity to meet in the comfort of

someone’s home instead of a restaurant to share a meal. Each family unit will have the opportunity to serve as host. We will join together to create intimate groups, get to know each other better, enjoy a little food and drink, some fellowship, develop deeper, more meaningful relationships, and share the love of God together. Sign up in the breezeway today!

    DO YOU SURF?

Do you surf the Internet a lot? Are you always wanting to learn new things or do you have website management experience? The website is updated each week with new content, such as bulletins, weekly calendars, audio sermons, etc. No complicated programming knowledge is required. So, if you are riding the wave on the Internet and are interested in helping with the church website, contact Ken Martin for information at [email protected] or (623) 979-8503.
