The first step in furthering progress or beginning progress in ballet and dance training is to register for the upcoming semester. Springfield Ballet, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the art of ballet through premier education, performance, outreach and collaboration. The school was established in 1976 to provide the highest caliber of dance training and to foster a love of movement and the arts through pre-professional performance opportunities. We provide an atmosphere that fosters self-confidence, grace, focus and a thoughtful attitude toward instructors and other students. Parents are invited to observe their child’s progress in class during two Parent Observation Weeks during the semester— October 8-13 and December 3-8. WE ARE EXPANDING: We are pleased to announce our continued expansion in The Creamery Arts Center! In our new front office space across from Studio A, you will find our Office Manager, Lizz Walrath, and our Bookkeeper/Office Assistant, Mary Jo Greer. In the old office space across from Studio C, you will find Executive Director, Ashley Walden; Associate Artistic Director, Brian Norris; Outreach Programs Coordinator, Tami Franklin; and Artistic & School Director, Ashley Paige Romines. In addition to getting our new front office space this summer, we are also adding a “Studio D” space on the north end of the Exhibition Hall, in the area across from the stairs. The new “Studio D” should be ready toward the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester, so you may notice quite a few combined level classes on the class schedule. Please note that many combined classes will be separated out once the new studio space is available, and some classes will be shifted to different studios to allow the dancers to have more space!!! We will communicate these changes to the schedule as soon as we know when the space will officially be available! CLASS INFORMATION: Beginning at age three, children may be enrolled in our Creative Movement dance classes. Creative Movement 1 (ages 3-4 ½) is an educational and fun class which introduces your child to dance emphasizing musical awareness, spatial awareness, group interaction and listening skills. Creative Movement 1 is offered in 8-week sessions (Session #1, Aug 20-Oct 13 & Session #2, Oct 15-Dec 8). Creative Movement 2 (ages 4 ½-6) is a more in-depth exploration of the dance concepts with additional emphasis on posture and coordination. Pre-Ballet (ages 5-7) is a prelude to formal ballet training and focuses on very basic ballet movements that deal with gross and fine motor skills, creative expression and music appreciation. Classical ballet training begins with Ballet 1 (ages 6-10) and continues with Ballet 2, Ballet 3, Ballet 4, Ballet 5, Ballet 6 and Pointe 6 and Ballet 7 and Pointe 7. Sometimes dancers are placed in split levels (such as Ballet 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, etc.). This means that the dancer is only allowed to take the higher level if they also take the lower level class (for example, a Ballet 4/5 dancer must register for a Ballet 4 class in order to also register for a Ballet 5 class). Please contact the School Director to see how many classes of each level are recommended. Elective classes are a great way to supplement your ballet training. We offer: Modern: Modern 1A (approximate ages 7 and up, in Ballet 2 and up), Modern 1B (by placement), Modern 2A (by placement), Modern 2B (by placement) & Modern 3 (by placement). Jazz: Jazz 1 (approximate ages 9 and up, in Ballet 4 and up), Jazz 2 (by placement) & Jazz 3 (by placement). Stretch & Strengthen (Age 9+ & Age 12+) Men’s Class for male dancers in Ballet 3 and up, Fridays, 4:30-5:30pm. New EXTRA Class: Workshop Class for Ballet 3/4, 4, 4/5 & 5 and for Ballet 5/6+, Fridays, 4:30-5:30pm. We are thrilled to be able offer extra opportunities for the dancers. Dancers placed in the appropriate levels may register for the workshop class. The class has an additional fee of $40 for the entire semester. This fee helps cover the cost for the instructors and guests we bring in for these classes. The Workshop Class will vary in content and topic throughout the semester. Classes/topics we are exploring include Improvisation, African Dance, Healthy Dancer, Dance History, Partnering (on each First Friday during Men’s Class—partnering is only for pointe dancers in Ballet 6 & 7), and MORE! I hope to see many Page 1 of 8

Dear Parents and Students,

Through the hot summer days, the time has arrived for Fall 2018 Registration at Springfield Ballet!

Parents are invited to observe their child’s progress in class during two Parent Observation Weeks during the semester—October 8-13 and December 3-8.

Creative Movement 1 (ages 3-4 ½) is an educational and fun class which introduces your child to dance emphasizing musical awareness, spatial awareness, group interaction and listening skills. dancers taking advantage of this great opportunity! Note: Dancers must register for these classes. These classes cannot be used as a make-up or drop-in class.

Dance with Me (age 2-3): Springfield Ballet also offers a Dance with Me dance class for children ages 2-3 to take a Creative Movement class with an adult. This eight-week session, offered from September 26-November 14 on Wednesday mornings from 9:45-10:15 am, focuses on teaching simple stretches and basic dance steps as well as the discipline of working together in a group. Depending on studio and instructor availability after Studio D is fully operable, we may add another class option for Dance with Me.

Open Adult Classes: We are pleased to continue our adult open class program for ages 16 through adult, expanding to offer three different options this semester:

Beginner Open Adult Ballet & Conditioning, Thursdays, 8:00-9:15pm, will focus on the use of ballet technique to help with toning, strength and flexibility. For dancers with no to little experience.

Intermediate Open Adult Ballet & Conditioning, Tuesdays, 8:00-9:15pm, for dancers with previous ballet experience. Please contact the Business Office for approval to take this class.

NEW: Open Adult Jazz, Wednesdays, 8:00-9:00pm, beginner and intermediate levels. You can either drop in to these classes at a single class rate of $14 or purchase an Open Adult Class Card at $100 for 8 classes (can be used for any of the classes). The registration fee is waived for the Open Adult classes and no convenience fees for credit/debit purchases.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION—THE NUTCRACKER 2018: Our classes are not recital driven as valuable classroom time is spent on instruction that will increase the student’s dance technique and artistry, personal strength and poise rather than practicing a routine. For those interested in performing, students ages five and up are invited to audition for the fall production, The Nutcracker. Five-year-olds must be five by August 1, 2018, and all students who wish to participate must be enrolled in dance technique classes—not necessarily at Springfield Ballet. We will hold an informational meeting about the requirements for The Nutcracker on Thursday, August 23 from 7:05-7:45 pm. This meeting is not mandatory but rather offers the opportunity to learn about the processes and expectations prior to committing to auditioning for the production. Further audition information can be found attached or on our website.

OTHER PROGRAMS OFFERED: Children’s Workshop Series: The school continues to offer the popular Children’s Workshop Series that is age appropriate (age 3-8) and is a great way to supplement ballet education and training. Snow White is offered on Sunday, October 14, from 3:00-5:00pm and The Nutcracker is offered on Sunday, December 2 from 3:00-5:00pm. Join us at the end of each workshop at 4:30pm for a mini-performance by the participants as well as a Meet & Greet with a special guest!

FREE Boys Workshops: We are excited to continue our FREE Boys Workshops. The workshop offers movement instruction and core exercises to increase balance, coordination, agility and overall strength. Attire for the class is gym clothes that participants can move in, with socks. It is no secret among professional athletes that a strong connection exists between dance movement and athleticism. From increased flexibility to use of muscles that can't be worked in a weight room, see the results for yourself by giving this workshop a shot! Two workshops will be offered: Sunday, October 14, 2:00-3:00pm for ages 7-12 and Sunday, November 18, 2:00-3:00pm for age 9-14 (schedule subject to change, dependent on enrollment and instructor availability).

Birthday Parties: Springfield Ballet offers Birthday Parties for the ballerina in your life (ages 3-10)! Our dance space is available for birthday parties on Sundays and in the daytime during the week. Please contact us for more details!

ENCLOSURES AND CONTACT INFORMATION: Enclosed you will find a registration packet that includes: 1) Fall 2018 Class Schedule with dress code and registration information, 2) Fall 2018 Tuition Rates and Policies, 3) Fall 2018 Calendar of Events, 4) Production Audition information and 5) Fall 2018 Workshop information. You can find all the faculty bios on our website, www.springfieldballet.org.
