On The Road Again

I am sitting here in my Argosy motor home with the fireplace going and it feels so good to be parking with other Airstreams at our Spring Fling Rally at Westport, WA. It’s raining and the wind is blowing but this is really a great way to spend two days in April. We would like to see more Airstream’s come to the rallies and enjoy the company of great people. “On the Road Again” this summer is full of fun with these rallies:

♦ May the Luau Rally at Lacey and Fishing Rally at Republic, WA,

♦ June the Hoodsport Rally,

♦ July the Seaport Rally, Port Townsend,

♦ August the Salmon Rally, Lacey and Dog Days of Summer Rally at Silver Lake, WA

♦ September our Election and Installation Rally for 2019-2020 officers.

♦ See articles in the following pages. Our next rally is the Luau Rally at Harmony Hall at Land Yacht Harbor. At this rally we have the General Membership Meeting. All members are encouraged to come and listen to what your Unit is doing. At this meeting we are going to discuss the Trade name change and vote on this change. We will be voting on the delegate and alternate to the International Rally in Virginia. We also will present the members and vote for those who have volunteered to serve on the Board of Directors. There are 5 positions to fill and if you are interested in serving on this board contact Tim Haley by phone or text at 210-382-7522. Nominations will also be taken from the members from the floor. Hawaiian Luau Rally May 2-5, 2019

I’d like to start off with reminding everyone to get their registration in for all the fun and fellowship for the first weekend in May. We will be welcoming New Airstream owners sponsored by Airstream Northwest. I’d like to invite all members to come and show the new Airstream owners what WBCCI is all about and share their adventures. On Saturday morning we have our General Membership Meeting and all members please plan to attend even if you are not registered for this rally. Saturday after the meeting, we have a fundraising lunch and pies with the donation proceeds going to the Battle Buddies. We are looking for people to bake or buy pies for the fundraiser. Cory & Manda Lyghts and Deborah Haley have some wonderful meals planned plus a great dinner for Saturday evening. After dinner the Kaimiola Polynesian Dancers will be performing. We are looking forward to a great Luau and hope to see you all there. Hosts: Terry and Carol Miller

WASHINGTON UNIT

MOTION .

This will be voted on at the General Membership Meeting May 4, 2019

I move that Bylaws, Article 1, Section 1 be amended by adding after Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. in the 3rd line “also doing business as the Washington Airstream Club” and by deleting “Unit” in the both references in the 4th line and inserting “Club.” The remainder of Article 1 would remain the same. Also amend Section 2 by inserting “the Washington Airstream Club” at the end of the first sentence by deleting “or” between International and International Club, inserting a comma and adding “and doing business as the Washington Airstream Club.” Rest of Section 2 would remain the same. Section 3 would not change. These sections would then read “Section 1. Washington Unit. This organization is a chartered unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club, International, Inc. and shall be known as the Washington Unit, Wally Byam Caravan Club, International, Inc. also doing business as the Washington Airstream Club and may be hereafter be referred to as the Unit or Club. The Unit exists as a nonprofit corporation in accord with the Nonprofit Corporation Act (RCW 24.04); since 1967 RCW 24.03) of the State of Washington and the Unit Articles of Incorporation date June 18, 1963. Section 2. General Information. The Washington Unit, Wally Byam Caravan Club, International, Inc. is often referred to as WBCCI, International, the International Club, and doing business as the Washington Airstream Club. There are twelve regions in WBCCI which are referred to as regions or a region. Rationale: This is the direction that the International Club is moving toward as evidenced by their use of a DBA of Wally Byam Airstream Club. There are also several other DBA names. All of the other units in Region 10 have already changed their name. We will still be chartered with the State of Washington as Washington Unit, Wally Byam Caravan Club, International, Inc.; just doing business as “the Washington Airstream Club”. This will also make it easier on officers or members making reservations at campgrounds or restaurants as Airstream is a recognized name while WBCCI is not. Also, if someone were searching the Web about Airstream and wishing to join, they probably would not know that WBCCI was indeed an Airstream club.

ATTENTION ALL WA UNIT MEMBERS!! For a couple of months, we’ve been telling you to circle June 1st on the calendar for a special event to raise funds for the Northwest Battle Buddies. To remind you, this charity raises puppies, then trains them to become service dogs (6 to 9 months) and finally provides the dogs to veterans suffering with PTSD. They bring the veterans from all over the country to Battleground, WA to meet their dogs and then go through 6 weeks of training together. So, you are invited to “BE A BUDDY” and support this organization. When you enter Harmony Hall, on Saturday, June 1st from 1pm - 4pm, pretend that you have just come to a USO event. There will be USO style decorations, tables and chairs set, USO style snacks, the dance floor will be available as the band (SOUTH SOUND SWING BAND) is on the stage playing for your listening and/or dancing pleasure. When the band takes a break, Northwest Battle Buddies will tell their story, including some veterans who will share their “buddy” experiences. A Silent Auction will be happening in one of the side rooms, as well as opportunities to talk to NWBB personnel and veterans. Denny Heck, this district’s U.S. Representative will make an appearance. “How can I support this organization and event?”, you ask. Here’s how: 1. Come to the event and bring your friends. It is open

to the public. Remember to RSVP: 360-890-2921 2. Bring your checkbook or credit card and

give generously. 3. HELPING HANDS! The planning committee needs

help in the following areas:

♦ Set up/Breakdown and/or Decorating - call John Brown (360)359-5997 or Larry Alvar (360)413-7539

♦ Food Prep and Serving - call Deborah Haley (210)382-8328 or email [email protected]

♦ Silent Auction - call Cathy Cook (865)216-8571

♦ Marketing/Publicity - call Mike Plympton (207)831-8339 or Carol Ortiz (360)491-6511

Remember, statistics say that 22 veterans a day commit suicide! Northwest Battle Buddies is reaching out to give veterans HOPE! The success that they are having in help-ing Combat Veterans with PTSD should make all of us proud to help this organization! SEE YOU JUNE 1ST AND VOLUNTEER!

ON THE ROAD WITH EMMA Part 2 My nap is over now. We are at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, Florida. The sand on the beach is so white, even I had to squint. I never noticed before but I look good reflected on the outside of my Airstream. We had BBQ baby back ribs for dinner. I shared! I don’t do dishes though. I just go take a nap until the cleanup is over. I hope there are leftovers. I think I will have my driver take me to Panama City tomorrow, I hear it has pretty good cat nightlife. Panama City was very touristy. The beaches were very nice with lots of soft white sand. I met a beach cat named Cat, how original. He said the beach bum cat life was good. He has some locals who feed him regularly and leave water for him. I like the beach, but I can’t be stuck in one place forever. I’ve got that travel itch, or is that a sand flea? We left Florida on Jan. 19, drove into Alabama again and ended up outside Robertsdale, AL at the Rainbow Plantation RV Park. We parked under an oak tree so squirrels and birds were abundant. I took Jan for a walk on the night of the 20th and got to see the lunar eclipse. I can’t understand why dogs howl at the moon. Maybe the moon is their God, I don’t know. Anyway back to me. It was very dark but I caught a mouse anyway. I let it go as I had no fish flavored Tabasco sauce to sprinkle on it. I took Jan back to the Airstream and warmed up, had a snack and retired for the evening. My valets stayed up late going in and out looking at the moon. Maybe they are like dogs but just don’t howl. I just wish they would not make so much noise doing it and turn down the lights, I’m trying to sleep. On to Robertsdale, AL for something called the mid-winter IBT. I don’t know what it was all about but I did eat well and I got to complain a lot about being left inside all day. I hear they have some really good BBQ here. I got a pulled pork sandwich, minus the bread and a rib that had a lot of meat missing from it when I got it. It did rain a lot and was kind of cold so I hung around the heater. The sun finally came back and all was well again. I got my accustomed place in the sun and napped. We left Alabama on Jan. 25th and finally came to rest in Vidalia, LA right across the Mississippi River from Natchez, Miss. This place was nice with lots of grass to walk in and squirrels to stare at and there was the river. I didn’t drink from it as it was muddy and I prefer bottled, but the boat traffic was interesting for awhile. The sun was out and life was good once again. My driver, Lee, got me a rib eye the first night and something called a crawfish the second night. These things are strange. They have pincers, a bunch of legs and armor plating. Fortunately it wasn’t in fighting shape. I waited for it to be properly prepared and dined on it. It tasted good, kind of like lobster, but a little spicy. On to TAHI in Texas for a few nights. We got the same spot as before and the sun was out. The lake had risen more since we were here last, so I didn’t have to walk so far for a drink. It was time to move on again so we left for NTAC in Hillsboro, TX and drove west to a little place called Alpine, TX. I enjoyed a BBQ rib dinner with my servants one night. This is one thing that they do well. It was nice and sunny when we got there and I worked on my tan. It’s really hard for a cat to get a tan but it can be done given enough time in the sun, but it’s mostly about napping anyway. We watched the Super Bowl on Sunday. I only watched the ads! The ad that gets me is the dog on the wagon. Why not a cat? We look so much more dignified and my ears and jowls wouldn’t flap in the wind. We went to Fort Davis and looked around the Fort and then went to an observatory. The tour began with a 45 minute talk about the solar observatory and what they do. Seems odd that all they do is look at the sun and not nap, but maybe they do if there is nobody watching them. A bunch of star gazers! I wonder if they howl at the moon like dogs too. Next we went to Marfa, which is supposed to be weird and I guess it is. There was this place called El Cosmico that had places to rent ranging from teepees to vintage trailers. I even saw a cat bed, but no cat in it. I wonder if it was for rent. They have a whole bunch of art galleries in town and one of the pictures was of a soup can! I could understand a cat food can, but a soup can? Later that evening we went to see the “lights of Marfa”. This is a pull off on the road with a viewing area. Lee and Jan went and looked but I was napping and didn’t see a thing. They got back to the trailer late. I wasn’t tired so I made sure that Lee and Jan knew it was time to feed me and then I made a pest of myself for a while. We left Alpine and headed for El Paso. Out of Alpine we made a stop at an “art” thing on the side of the road. Something about “Prada of Marfa” in a building. Art! Cats know better. El Paso is kind of a windy place. We had 2 dust storms while we were there. I don’t like dust and wind, they mess up my do and it takes away from my nap time when I have to clean up. We stayed here for a week because the truck had a problem. Finally we left and went to Benson, AZ. Lee and Jan got me a roasted chicken for dinner and I let them dine with me. I know I shouldn’t do that but I thought it might make them feel important to dine with me, and I let them have some of my chicken. While in Benson we went to Tombstone, Bisbee and Douglas. I don’t know why, there was nothing for me to do but Jan and Lee liked it I guess. We left Benson and went to Casa Grande. This place was really nice with lots of things to keep people busy. The best though was a prime rib. The weather was not good for about 5 days but then the sun came out and I could resume my tanning and napping. We left Casa Grande and went to Indio. The trip was interesting especially going through the sand dunes and then along the Salton Sea. The weather was nice in Indio and the park we stayed at had lots of grass and big concrete patios. I like grass! It’s cool on my feet and tastes good too. The patio was nice and warm so I rolled around on it and then worked on my tan for a while. If the weather stays warm I should have a nice bronze tan by the time we get back to Olympia. Dash will be very jealous! We had a visitor this morning. Some kind of big bird called a road runner. This one flipped his tail a lot and then jumped up on top of the Airstream and squawked for a while and then flew off to another RV and did the same. Looked pretty tasty. I’ll bet there is plenty of dark meat on this one. We also went on a road trip to a place called Joshua Tree. There were lots of flowers in bloom and Lee and Jan took lots of pictures but none of me. Go figure!

We finally started heading back home on March 7. On the first day we made it to my favorite park in Bakersfield. I enjoyed a good steak that evening, but we only stayed here for one night. The trip north was uneventful and on March 11 we arrived home. Dash was waiting with his unblinking eyes and I was kind of glad to see the mutt. I will miss the trailer. It has been my home for over 4 months, but I have a nice comfy bed in the house and it is nap time, so it’s good to be home. I can now resume my staring contest with Dash, but first I think I will take a nap in my happy place. My valets performed well enough to keep them around for a while as long as they feed me soon. So this was my perspective on Airstreaming and I hope you enjoyed the trip. I did. EMMA (Lee and Jan Wyman)

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER RALLY, SILVER LAKE, WA August 16-18, 2019

Definition: Time between early July through early September, when hot sultry days occur. A time of stagnation

and inactivity. It is also the rising of the Sirius star which today we call the dog star. Greek and Roman astrology links this with heat, drought and sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever and mad dogs. Airstreamers have a different way of managing this time of year, with friends

getting together and enjoying our Airstream in new places. Silver Cove Resort, at Silver Lake is a place where you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, hiking, fishing. You can just sit and look across the lake and see Mount Saint Helens. It’s a time to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. You can visit the nearby the National Volcanic Interpretive Center or shop at the historic Castle Rock. Activities: we will have surprise games, scavenger hunt, good food and plenty of laughs. We cannot forget our four legged friends, after all it is “Dog Days”. (Cats too if they don’t mind the name.) We will have fun and games for them too. Rally fee: $10.00 per person Parking: Premium $50.36 per night Deluxe: $48.87 per night Pull Thru: $46.87 per night

Reservations must be made by August 1, 2019 Phone: 360-967-2057 or 1-877-380-7278
