December 2017 / January 2018 pg WASHINGTON SOUND Washington Unit #112, WBCCI ISSUE 528 Dec 2017/Jan 2018 Greetings from Arizona! Jan and I have been here for a month now. The weather has been very nice, a bit warm at times though. We have visited many parks, a mission, the Titan Missile Museum, the Pima Copper Mine, an art festival, the Desert Museum, a winery and a wedding. In other words we are living the Airstream life. Alas, we will be returning home in early December for the BOT Meeting on Dec. 7 and the Christmas Rally. Don’t miss the BOT meeting as there are some exciting changes to the rally schedule to announce. While you are there check out the new Unit Store too. There are some new products for your pleasure and purchase. Don’t forget Christmas is just around the corner. The Christmas Rally is coming up Dec. 8-10 at the WLYH, hosted by Carol Ortiz & Marianne Harmier, and it should be a fun and festive rally to attend, so sign up now. Coupon page 5 in this newsletter. The Halloween rally, hosted by Kristi & Clayton Trickle and Heather and Kyle Reed, was a roaring success with a Mad Hatter's tea party, “mummy meatloaf” for dinner on Saturday and a monster mash dance following the dinner. We wished we had been there! There are still a couple of rally host positions to fill so this is your chance to get involved and design a rally of your own. Contact me (Lee Wyman) at 206-419-1726 for information about available opportunities. The new year is coming soon so get your calendar of events for 2018 set. There are a lot of local rallies to attend plus Region 10 and the International Rallies are nearby in Oregon. The Tri Unit Rally is at Whidbey Island this spring. I encourage and invite all members of WBCCI to get out there and “live the Airstream life”. Lee Wyman, President Washington Unit, #1456, phone 206-419-1726 LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! December 8 - 10, 2017 Washington Land Yacht Harbor Are you humming the tune yet or even singing out loud? Well, you better start practicing because the WA Unit Rally is just around the corner. We have lot’s of fun planned for all you “senagers” (seniors + teenagers) and younger. Friday morning at 9:30am, we’ll begin with a Continental Breakfast while we decorate the Hall. There will be crafts and frosting of snowflake cookies and games, all leading into lunch which will be provided. Be sure to pick up an item from the Giving Tree in the Hall, because we will wrap those gifts for three homeless families after lunch. At 2:30pm, a cookie exchange will take place. Come to the Rally to find out what else is planned on Friday afternoon. Meeting Friends Hour is at 4pm with a game up our sleeves. Dinner at 6pm will be followed by the North Thurston High School Jazz Singers. After their program, they will help us warm up our vocal chords with caroling. Saturday begins with breakfast at 9am and is followed by our annual gift exchange. We’ll have a new twist for this and let’s make gifts $10 or less. Chocolates are always nice! We may even have an appearance of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Brown bag lunch before Caroling in the neighborhood to shut-ins or newly bereaved. Nick Fisher will have his steam trains up and running and a tour to an Alpaca Farm/Textile Mill is planned. Meet your friends at 4pm with some canned goods for the Food Bank; have pictures taken by Mark Johnson while sipping some Holiday drinks; dress up for a lovely dinner followed by our own folks entertaining you. Worship is planned on Sunday morning, led by Chaplain Gloyd Dearth. Coffee cake and coffee follows while we un-decorate the Hall. Those are some of the details. There is more! Community Service We are all looking forward to the Holiday Season—Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years. At the Christmas Rally, we are requesting donations of canned foods to give to the Food Bank and requesting gifts for families who are in need on the Giving Tree in Harmony Hall. There also will be a raffle for a beautiful doll donated by our Doll Project Volunteers. Funds raised by this raffle will support our group of ladies who buy 50 dolls, make each doll 6 beautiful outfits, and give the dolls to girls who would not otherwise have such a precious possession. (See our doll table at the Rally.) Box Tops for Education Coupons are found on many grocery items. Please clip them and bring them to the container in the foyer of Harmony Hall. I will collect the coupons and take them to Nisqually Middle School. Any Questions, please email

[email protected]. Thank you and be

safe and healthy this winter.

Alaska Rally Cruise

Our Alaskan Cruise Rally is in the planning stages leaving Seattle on July 8, 2018. If you have questions after reading the flyer on page 4, call Pat Latimer for more details 360-459-8505. If you can’t reach her, call Connie at World Wide Holiday Cruises 360- 956-9700. She is very happy to take your call and returns messages quick. From Connie: “Alaska is a destination desired by people from around the world. Space goes quickly - Bottom Line > First Come, First Served is something to remember. Contract dates are overridden by cruise line's overall sales. Once a deposit is in place - Your Stateroom is Yours! Final payment is 4/1/2018. DEPOSIT is 100% REFUNDABLE until 4/15/2018 Travel Insurance is available - even for most pre-existing health situations as long as Dr says "should be able to travel early July. Example of spacing your deposit monies out a little....

Mr & Mrs Jones would like to go, however $700 Deposit ($350 each) is inconvenient at this time with holidays etc on the "to do" list.

Let us reserve a stateroom for ex. Mrs Jones --- currently the cruise line will charge as if there were 2 people going as they really don't give a single person a break other than Government Fees of $275, which is NOT doubled Their system will allow me to make a reservation today for 1 person with 1 person deposit of $350.... which again is 100% refundable if something comes up and are unable to go before final payment date. After the first of the year at a good time, we can add a 2nd person to the stateroom and of course pay the deposit of $350 for that person as well. Note: this does not work very well for Triple or Quad rooms as those are in limited supply and there is a high likelihood that would not be possible later. Note: The ship is only allowed a certain number of 3rds/4ths on board so there may be staterooms that could accommodate that but not the overall totals of passengers.... usually 3rd/4th passengers in the same stateroom go at a very reduced cost. Needless to say, the cruise line is more motivated to have the ship sold out with the maximum number of passengers in double occupancy vs. having empty staterooms because they reached their limits with so many 3rd/4th passengers in triple and quad rooms.”

Fishing Caravan Fishing Caravan will be CANCELED

if can't find a new leader This is a message from our Fishing Caravan Leader: "Due to my current health and surgery schedule, I am looking for someone to run the caravan. I will be unable to travel until June at the earliest. I will make arrangements and plans, but I will not be released for travel come time for the caravan. If I can't get help, I will need to cancel so it is pretty important to find someone." Please contact Michael Medford at 360-870-0591 or [email protected] if you an host this caravan.

Spirit of Christmas by Marian Jones

On this Christmas morning Let thoughts of peace prevail,

As holy bells are ringing, Across the hills and dales.

As we celebrate the birth

Of our Savior and our King, Let us live in harmony

Seeing good in everything.

When festivities have ended, And the memories fade away,

Let peace remain within each heart As it did on Christmas Day.

New Years Day is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one and “live the Airstream

life.”

Thank you for your love, sympathy, calls, cards and concern when Halley, my dog passed and my best friend, Frank Fleming. All my love in Our Lord Jesus Christ, Doris Davis Thank you one and all for the cards, emails, flowers and phone calls after my October 30 hip replacement surgery. Your well-wishes are speeding me along to a fast recovery. Charli Westerfield
