Dawg Bites - Team ... Continuedmore than two home games -- 2003 and 2008 when they dropped five during conference action. Washington has hit five 3-pointers in a game 11 times this season, but not in the last eight. Over the last8 games, the Huskies are 21-102 (.206) from beyond the 3-point arc. C.J. Wilcox is 8-43 (.186) and AndrewAndrews is 1-19 (.053) during that 8-game stretch. Husky radio play-by-play announcer Bob Rondeau was named the 2012 NSSA Washington Sportscaster othe Year for the 10th time. Rondeau is in his 32nd year as Washingtons play-by-play announcer. UW was 5-6 in true road games this year. It marked the seventh time in 11 seasons under Romar that theHuskies have won five road games.

Historically, the Huskies have finished strong in the last four regular-season conference games during theRomar era. Over the previous four seasons they have a combined record of 13-3 down the home stretch, twicegoing 4-0, once going 3-1 and going 2-2 the other time. In fact in the 10 previous years under Romar, UW hasonly finished under .500 once in the final four game (2008) and is 29-11 (.725) overall. Washington had not been swept in a two-game regular season series by a Pac-12 team since USC in 2010and had not been swept by two schools in the same season since 2007 when Arizona and Washington Statepulled it off. This year, Arizona and Oregon have swept the Huskies. The Huskies have scored under 60 points six times this season. The last time they had done that as manytimes was in 2008. Washington entered this year having won 20-plus games in a school record 4-straight years -- which is thelongest active streak in the conference. The Huskies have 20+ wins in six of Lorenzo Romars previous 10seasons. The Huskies are 0-5 vs. ranked teams this year, including 0-2 at home, 0-2 on the road and 0-1 on neutracourts. UW has dropped their last 9 games vs. ranked opponents. Their last win came on Isaiah Thomas cold

blooded shot vs. #16 Arizona to clinch the 2011 Pac-10 tournament. In all, Washington has lost 12 of their las13 vs. ranked opponents dating back to 2010. UWs last win over a ranked team on the road was Jan. 31, 2009when they beat No. 14 ASU, 73-70 in overtime. UW is 5-6 in true road games, 1-1 in neutral site games. The Huskies average 66.5 ppg away from AlaskaAirlines Arena; their opponents 66.8. UW is 11-1 when shooting above 70% from the free throw line, but 4-12 when under 70%. Getting off to a good start is imperative for the Huskies. They are 11-2 when leading at halftime, 1-1 whentied and 3-10 when trailing. UW leads the Pac-12 with 13.0 offensive rebounds per game, thanks to Aziz NDiayes Pac-12 best 3.6 pergame. Conversely, the Huskies are 11th with 23.5 defensive rebounds per game. Perhaps the correlating stais that UW is last in the conference in field goal PCT defense at .432. The Huskies are giving up 66.7 ppg which ranks 9th overall among league teams but would be UWs bestmark since the 2000 team allowed 65.1 ppg. The previous low watermark in Romars tenure is 69.5 in 2009.

    2012-13 Husky Basketball

a2012-13 Washington Mens Basketball Husky Notes

UW Leads Division I With Most All-Time Wins At Their Home ArenaWashington has

930 wins inside of Hec Edmundson Pavilion, the most by any Division I team at its cur-

rent home arena. The Huskies started playing in their arena on Dec. 27, 1927 and have amassed 100 morevictories than No. 2 on the list, Pennsylvania.

Friendly Confines Of HomeLosing at Alaska Airlines Arena in Hec Edmundson Pavilion is rare under coach Lorenzo Romars watch. In11 years with Romar at the helm, UW is 156-34 (.821) overall at home, 82-9 (.901) in non-conferencegames.UW was 18-2 at home in 2012, the 5th time under Romar that they have reached at least 17 winsat home. The Huskies have won 15+ at home 18 times overall, but only two other times in the last 60 yearsoutside the Romar era.The Huskies won a school record 32 straight non-conference games at Alaska AirlinesArena, dating back to a 72-71 home loss on March 14, 2008 in the College Basketball Invitational to Val-paraiso, before South Dakota State beat them on Dec. 18, 2011.

the first five minutes of the game to fall behind 9-0.Consecutive 3-pointers by Suggs and Wilcox pushedWashingtons lead to 17-4 and the Cougars had trouble

even attempting shots on several of their possessions.Shawn Kemp Jr. made back-to-back dunks as Wash-ington built a 21-4 lead and the Cougars were just 2 of13 from the field at that point.

Last Time Out: UW 68, ASU 59 (2/23)AP - Scott Suggs scored 16 points and hit a 3-pointerwith 34 seconds left, helping Washington hold off Ari-zona State 68-59 Saturday night. Washington (15-13,7-8 Pac-12) led by 12 midway through the second halfand nearly blew it all, allowing the Sun Devils to pullwithin one. Abdul Gaddy, who had 13 points, hit a bigjumper and Suggs followed with his 3-pointer to keepArizona State from completing the comeback in its

seniors final home game. Washington dominated theSun Devils inside in the teams previous meeting andagain gave them trouble, grabbing 13 more reboundsand scoring 14 points off 14 offensive boards. ArizonaState (20-8, 9-6) came up short against Washington forthe second time this season and in its bid to match theschool record for home wins with 16. Ruslan Pateev,Jahii Carson and Evan Gordon had 10 points each forthe Sun Devils.

Odd But True Tidbits The Huskies have won eight of nine games at onepoint during the season, but also lost eight of ninegame during one stretch. The only other time in UWhistory this has happened was 1945.

UW rarely loses when they keep opponents under60 points. In Lorenzo Romars 11-year tenure at UW,the Huskies have lost just six games when allowingunder 60 points. This year the Huskies have lost twicewhen allowing opponents to score in the 50s (Arizona,@UCLA). The only other time it happened twice in thesame season was 2003 -- Romars first year. For the first time in UWs history they lost 4-straightleague games after winning the previous four con-tests. They have done the streak in reverse before, winning 5-straight Pac-10 games in 2004 after startingwith 5-straight losses.

The Dawgs came into the Utah game allowing Pac-12 opponents to shoot .374 from the field. The Utesshot 60.4%, the highest FG% vs. the Huskies sinceArizona shot 65.3% on Jan. 4, 2007. The Huskies started Conference play 4-0 for the 2ndtime in Lorenzo Romars 11 seasons - also 2011 - andjust the 4th times in the last 35 years. The Huskies went down to the Bay Area and earnedtheir first road sweep of Cal and Stanford since 1985. Since Washingtons first season in 1896, this yearmarked the sixth time that UW opened conference playwith three road games (1911, 1912, 1943, 1993 and1999) and the first times since 1912 they only won allthree.

Point-Less StatThe Huskies are averaging 67.8 points per game thisyear, the lowest total during Lorenzo Romars 11 sea-

sons at Washington. The Huskies have led the Pac-12in scoring in five of the last eight seasons, but are 9thin the Conference this season. The last time UW aver-aged less than 70 points per season was 2001 whenthey scored 67.6 points per game. The previous lowduring Romars tenure was 73.2 ppg in 2008. Con-versely, they are allowing 66.7 ppg, the Huskies lowestaverage allowed since 65.1 in 1990.

    2012-13 Husky Basketball

Injury ReportUW is full strength with all 10 scholarship playersfinally healthy, but for the first 10 games at least oneplayer was out of each game. Shawn Kemp missedthe first 7 games due to a knee injury (losses to Alba-ny, Ohio State and Colorado State during that span).Scott Suggs played only 2 minutes vs. Albany aftersuffering a concussion, leaving the Huskies short-handed and missed 3 games with a sprained right

foot (loss to Colorado St). Andrew Andrews missed3 games with a sprained ankle (loss vs. Nevada).

Player of the Week HonorsC.J. Wilcox was named Pac-12 Player of the Weekon for the week of Jan. 7-13 after averaging 23.0points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks inthe Huskies first Bay Area sweep since 1984. Wil-cox shot 53.1% from the field, including 50% from3-point range. He scored 27 points and grabbed a ca-reer high 9 rebounds vs. Stanford on the way to win-ning his 2nd career weekly honor. It was the Huskies46th player of the week selection all-time and 27th inLorenzo Romars 11 seasons.

Three-Point ProwessThe Huskies have a pair of long-range bombers thatare assaulting the Huskies record books. C.J. Wil-cox is steadily climbing the UW three-point chartsand is up to third all-time in UW history with 198.Next up is Deon Luton with 212. Scott Suggs ison the all-time list too and is tied for 8th with 127.When it comes to accuracy, both are in the top-10percentage-wise also.

Reverse Trend in ReboundingWashington has finished first in the conference in re-bounding four-straight years, six of the last eight andhas finished first or second in each of the last eight

seasons. If they are going to continue that trend, theHuskies are going to have to hit the glass in monu-mental proportions. This season they are 8th in thePac-12 in rebounding with 36.5 per game, which cur-rently represents their lowest average since 2004.The biggest culprit in the reverse trend is that UWis 11th in the league with 23.5 defensive reboundsper game and they are only grabbing 68.3% of therebounds when the other team is on offense.

Wilcox Diversifying His GameEveryone knows C.J. Wilcox can shoot from theoutside. Entering the season, statistically speaking, itwas easy to tell he prefered to fire away from outside

the 3-point line. Entering the year, 56% of his fieldgoal makes came from behind the 3-point arc, while61% of his FG attempts were 3-pointers. He has di-versified his game this year, according to the stats. Sofar in his junior season, of Wilcoxs field goal makes, just 36.0% have come from beyond 3-point range and42.6% of his attempts are 3-pointers. Despite movingcloser to the rim, his scoring average has gone up andso has his field goal percentage.

Seferian-Jenkins Sticks To FootballAustin Seferian-Jenkins has decided to not playbasketball this season, it was announced on Jan. 2.

    Dawgs Visit Africa

The Huskies capped their foreign tour this summer byspending three day in Dakar, Senegal. While in Africa, the team had a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Dakar, the capital of Senegal, is home to senior Aziz NDiaye.

He returned home for the first time in two years andserved as host, ambassador and translator during thetrip. The team started their Africa leg with a visit tothe Bandia Animal Reserve, followed by a stop at theSEEDS Academy, where NDiaye got his basketballstart. NDiaye led the Huskies as they ran a clinic forthe younger members of the academy. The next daythe team joined NDiaye on a visit to his home wherethey saw the home in which NDiaye grew up. His momcooked NDiayes favorite meal -- fish and rice -- forthe whole team. Later that evening the Huskies werescheduled to play Dakar University, but a severe rain-storm flooded the court and made the venue unplay-able.
