    THE LES MILES FILE

    LES MILES NOTABLES

Now entering his eighth year into his reign as headcoach at LSU, Les Miles has guided the Tiger footballprogram to its most successful stretch - both on and offthe field in the history of the sport at the school. With76 victories, two SEC titles and two appearances in theBCS National Championship Game, LSUs success since the

start of the 2005 season is unmatched in college football. In the classroom, LSU ranks second in the SEC to onlyVanderbilt in the most recent release of graduation ratesas 152 Tigers have earned their degree under Miles watch.

While LSU came up a game short of claiming its sec-ond BCS title under Miles in 2011, it was still a record-set-ting season for Miles and the Tigers. LSU went 13-0 duringthe regular season for the first time in school history, beata school-record eight Top 25 teams, registered 12 of its13 wins by double-figures and spent 11 straight weeks asthe nations No. 1 ranked team. Throw in five first-teamAll-Americas, two national award winners, and a HeismanTrophy finalist and the 2011 regular season ranked as themost successful in school history.

Miles accomplishments havent come without hardwork and a steadfast approach that expects excellenceand dedication from his players, coaching staff and all ofthose who contribute to the success of LSU football. TheMiles Method - a system that puts players in position tohave success in the classroom, contribute and give back tothe community, and compete for championships - is thefoundation for which his program is built.

The results in his seven years with the program havebeen staggering as 157 players have graduated, 120 haveearned SEC Academic Honor Roll distinction and countlesshours have been spent in the community. Since the 2007

season, LSU has seen 90 of its 109 seniors get their dipmas, including 21 of 25 seniors from the 2007 nationalchampionship team, all 19 from the 2008 squad, 20 of from the 2009 team, 13 of 16 from 2010 and 16 of 25 frolast years club. Twelve players during that stretch whohavent completed their requirements for graduation are

currently playing in the NFL.In the community, the Tigers played instrumental

roles during the recovery efforts following HurricanesKatrina and Rita in 2005, which were two of the worstnatural disasters to hit Louisiana. A week doesnt go bywhere members of the football team are visiting hospitareading at schools or serving as motivational speakersto area youth groups. Its become the LSU way and its aspirit that has spread through the team.

On the field, the Tigers have won more games (76)than any other program in the SEC, finished in the natiotop 10 five times and delivered a league-best 42 NFLDraft picks, including 10 first round selections. LSUs alsoproduced 16 first team All-Americans and had players w

11 national awards. In 2007, senior defensive tackle GlenDorsey became the most decorated defender in school htory, winning four national awards, while Patrick Petersofollowed that in 2010 by claiming two national awards the Thorpe Award as the nations top defensive back andthe Bednarik Award as the nations top defender.

Under Miles, the Tigers have posted at least 11 vic-tories in a season five times and finished ranked amongthe top five in the nation three straight years (2005, 06and07), a first at LSU.

LSU Is 43-0 Under Miles When Rushing For 100-Yards and Holding Opponents To Less Than 100 YardsOne look at LSUs results in relation to rushing the football and its easy to figure out that head coach Les Miles is a for-mer offensive lineman who understands the importance of running the football. THE SCARIEST PLACE TO PLAY IN AMERICA- ESPN.COM, OCT. 2007; ESPN COLLEGE FOOTBALL LIVE, MAY 2011

Notables LSU began playing football in Tiger Stadium in 1924 and is currently in its 89th year in the venerable stadium. This seasonmarks the 82nd year LSU has played under the lights in Death Valley. The Tigers defeated Spring Hill, 35-0, on Oct. 3, 1931 in thefirst night game in the stadiums history.

LSU owns a nation-best 18-game home winning streak. Head coach Les Miles is 31-1 in Saturday Night home games. TheTigers last home loss was to No. 1 Florida on Oct. 10, 2009 and the last non-conference loss was to UAB on Sept. 23, 2000.

More than 85,000 fans have attended each of LSUs last 83 home games. In that span, the Tigers have eclipsed the 90,000mark 73 times, including a school-record 93,129 for the Oct. 10, 2009 game that pitted No. 4 LSU against No. 1 Florida.

Since national attendance figures began being kept in 1957, LSU has finished in the nations top 10 in average attendance in48 of the past 55 seasons.

Since 1960, LSU owns a stellar 222-60-4 (.782) record in traditional Tiger Stadium night games. The Tigers are 25-26-3 (.491)at home during the day in that span.

LSU has won 31 consecutive home games over non-conference opponents. Les Miles is 22-0 in non-conference home games.

QuotablesIm not sure what it was like to walk into the Coliseum, but I bet it was something like this. The best place in the world towatch a sporting event.

    - Wright Thompson, ESPN Senior Writer

Dark. That combined with Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night is something loud, strange and holy. There is noise everywhere instadiums from Eugene to Tuscaloosa. Only in Baton Rouge is there a living, breathing lurking in its grand, old stadium.

    - Dennis Dodd, CBSSports.com

Best stadium -- Tiger Stadium, LSU. The pregame festivities, the deafening noise -- theres no other place like it.

    - Matt Hayes, Sporting News

All I began to hear was a chant L-S-U, L-S-U. It got louder and louder. It was the loudest Ive ever heard a stadium.

    - Mark Richt, Georgia Head Coach

Three SEC coaches I spoke with who have worked in other leagues say that Tiger Stadium is by far the loudest in the country.
