Te Warhorse Brigades only Shadow UASlatoon, Mongoose, conducted Air to Air

ntegration training with 1st Battalion, 2ndAviation Regiment rom Sept. 9-16.

As combat operations in Iraq and Aghani-tan continue, seamless integration o combatnits on the ground and in the air is exceed-

ngly critical. Tis includes a new concept,

Manned-Unmanned eaming (MUM-)which is being eld tested across the Army.

Te Mongoose Platoon had a rare opportu-ity with 1-2 AVN to conduct some MUM-

raining. Its exciting to be on the leading edge

the Army, said Spc. Salvador Garduno. Most o the guys I went to AI with haventone anything like this beore.

MUM- occurs when manned aviationlatorms like Apaches or Kiowa Warriors

work hand-in-hand with unmanned aviationlatorms like the Shadow or Hunter UAS.

Te unarmed UAS will go rst to conducteconnaissance while the helicopters comeehind and utilize their weapon systems to

engage and destroy the enemy. Some helicopters have even been equipped

to take control o the Shadow temporarilywhile they conduct the engagement. Duringthis eld training, Warhorse UAS Soldiersidentied targets on Fort Carson, then passedthem o to Apaches rom 1-2 AVN. TeApaches swept in and engaged these targetswith their 30mm machine gun.

Tis was a great training event, said Sgt.

1st Class Charles rayer. We spend a lot otime supporting ground Soldiers but rarely dowe get to spot or another aviation unit. I hada lot o un.
