They have thoroughly enjoyed having Col Hatchman as a guest teacher over the last 2 weeks. During Term 1, our students missed 2 lessons. We have been nofied that the catch-up lessons will take place on Monday 27 May at 1.00pm and on Monday 1 July at 1.00 pm. P&C AGM The P&C Annual General Meeng (AGM) took place last night where elecons were held. A big thanks to those volunteers who have chosen to give up their me to support our wonderful school over the past year and for those taking a posion on this year. President: Leonie Hawn Vice President: Julie Small Vice President: (Vacant) Treasurer: Bec Carey Secretary: Alison Donnelly Canteen Co-ordinator: (Vacant) Banking Co-ordinator: Leonie Hawn Fundraising Co-ordinator: Rachel Garner Uniform Shop Co-ordinator: Bec Carey Over the next month we will be taking suggesons for P&C goals for the next 12 months, which will be voted on in the May P&C Meeng. P & C Meengs Calendar 2019 P&C Meengs are normally first Tuesday of the month (during term) at Hamilton North Bowling Club from 6.00 pm. 7 May (Term 2 - Week 2) 4 June (Term 2 – Week 6) 2 July (Term 2 – Week 11) 6 August (Term 3 – Week 3) 3 September (Term 3 – Week 7) 15 October (Term 4 – Week 1) 5 November (Term 4 – Week 4) Principal's Message Another excing week has passed at WPS. Students have been consolidang the learning they have been doing throughout the term. What an amazing learning environment! I would like to thank all the parents that aended the parent/teacher interviews. It is such a valuable opportunity to invest in your students learning and understand how they are going here at school. Thank you also to our teachers for the addional hours preparing and delivering these interviews. On a biersweet note, Mrs Novak has accepted a posion as Relieving Assistant Principal at Heaton PS for the rest of this year, starng in Term 2. I know this was a very difficult choice for Mrs Novak as she loves our school but the opportunity was too good to refuse. We wish Mrs Novak all the very best on her new adventure. Thank you Mr Metcalfe Choir On Tuesday 26 March the School Choir performed at the Newcastle City Police Awards and Medal Presentaon Ceremony. They were awarded with Cerficate of Appreciaon. Thank you to the Parent helpers on the day. School Camp With the current closure of Myuna Bay camp, we are awaing confirmaon about the implicaons this will have on our Stage 2 camp. Drumming Throughout Term 1, our Drum Corp students have been working really hard and have made amazing progress. They have thoroughly enjoyed having Col Hatchman as a guest teacher over the last 2 weeks. During Term 1, our students missed 2 lessons. Principal's Message Another exciting week has passed at WPS. Students have been consolidating the learning they have been doing throughout the term. What an amazing learning environment! I would like to thank all the parents that attended the parent/teacher interviews. It is such a valuable opportunity to invest in your students learning and understand how they are going here at school. Thank you also to our teachers for the additional hours preparing and delivering these interviews. Harmony… “It’s up to us.”

Waratah students enthusiastically celebrated our multiculturalism on Harmony Day, Thursday March 21. Our playground was brightly coloured with orange clothes and students in traditional garb. Students enjoyed a variety of activities in their classes. They proudly shared words and phrases from our many languages including Akan, Arabic, Bengali, Croatian, Dari, English, Filipino, French, German, Hakka, Hindi, Igbo, Indonesian, Kannada, Kirundi, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Mandarin, Maori, Marathi, Malaysian, Persian, Pidgin, Punjabi, Samoan, Senegalese, Sindhi, Sinhalese, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Tongan, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese, Wolof and Yoruba. Waratah’s children of the world make us proud.

Uniform Shop Winter is almost upon us and the Uniform Shop is stocked up for all your winter uniform needs! Below is our winter uniform schedule. The Uniform shop also sells maroon beanies, scarves and gloves to keep students warm. Thanks to people’s kind donations, we are also stocked up with second hand winter jumpers.

School Band An information morning is being held this Thursday 4 April from 8.00 am in the Music Room. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and see the instruments that are available. If you can’t make it but would like your child to be involved please email Mrs Savage. [email protected].

Easter EGGtravaganza Raffle Let’s make this raffle Eggsellent! The P&C are seeking donations for our Easter raffle – anything Easter or chocolate, no donation will be too big or small. Please place your donation in the Easter box in the office. Raffle to be drawn at the Easter Hat Parade, Friday 12 April. The more donations the more prizes. Let’s get cracking and hop to it. Raffle tickets came home last week with the Newsletter. There are more raffle books available in the office. Tickets are $1 each and prizes will be Easter hampers. 1st prize - Extra large, 2nd Prize - Large, 3rd 4th 5th Prize will be Medium and there will be lots of small prizes up for grabs. Thank you in advance for your gratitude. The Fundraising Team !

Easter Hat Parade Our annual P—6 Easter Hat Parade will be held on Friday 12 April at 12.40 pm in our school hall. Everyone is welcome and we would love to see you there.
