Last night was the culmination of months of hard work by the students and their very

to the winning bidders of the silent auction. If you were unable to attend the Art Show

and would like to purchase your child’s artwork, please see Mrs Gizas or the office staff.

A special thank you to Mrs Gizas and her elves (Mrs MacAlpine and Mrs Mitchell) for

the hours of preparation for this wonderful event.

The school was a sea of yellow on Tuesday in support

of the Tour de Cure. Thank you to our community which

has raised $1200 to help find a cure for cancer. The

school gratefully accepted a cheque from the

Commonwealth Bank for $2500 to help raise

awareness with students about lifestyle choices that

help prevent the likelihood of cancer developing. The

SRC will be surveying classes about how this money

can be utilised most effectively.

Year 6 will be having a Cake Stall on Wednesday 22nd November. Students will be able to purchase a

SCHOOL NEWS

Next week is National Recycling Week. The Environmental Team will be coordinating the collection of toothpaste tubes and caps, floss containers, toothbrushes and the outer packaging of these products. Please bring these used and empty products to school and place them into the box near the front office. The waste will be sent to Terracycle where it will be recycled into various products, such as park benches. Please help us to make a difference by contributing to this

recycling initiative.

Mrs Gallen from The Royal National Park Environmental

Education Centre visited the school last week to conduct a waste audit with the Environmental Team. She

highlighted the types of rubbish that is produced at school and the team is looking at ways of disposing this in

more environmentally-friendly ways. Mrs Gallen explained how to sort waste into compost, co-mingled

recycling, paper recycling and landfill.

SCHOOL CANTEEN INFORMATION

Key Value: - Wellbeing (Community Key Of Success)

SCHOOL NEWS

Parents, we ask that you go through these skills with your children, and discuss the dos and don’ts. Children learn best when

they are supported from both school and home with a consistent message. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Giving and Receiving Compliments—Good Mates Look for the Good Things About Others

Giving Compliments

Receiving Compliments

Wellbeing can be defined as the condition of being contented, healthy, or successful; and is a welfare matter. Of course we want

all students of our school to feel happy to be here, healthy and successful learners. Helping students to focus on their wellbeing,

are the focus points on our award system where students aim towards improving levels of responsibility for looking after

themselves and taking care of others, to make safe choices—ensuring they act in a manner that does not put themselves or

others in danger, being sensible in their choices and actions, taking care of the environment in which they live, work and play

and using strategies to build their resilience. Wellbeing can be related to many aspects of our lives— having a group of

friends can help us to have a sense of belonging and can improve our sense of well-being. Having a healthy self esteem and

optimistic outlook—where we look for the positives which are occurring in our lives can help us to feel good about our life and

ourselves and therefore impact our sense of well-being. Being in a pleasant environment can help to lift our spirits and sense of

wellbeing and hence we try to make our school an appealing place for students to be. At school our aim is to be increasingly

supporting students to develop skills in being able to identify personal goals for success. These need to be both realistic and

achievable, so as a child aims towards these goals and succeeds, they increase their sense of personal wellbeing. We also

support students to build friendship skills and to build their self esteem as we are aware how important these factors can be to

having a sense of personal worth and success. Continuing to build skills in the students of our school means they can take some

important steps towards knowing they too can impact their own sense of wellbeing — an important skill for life. Learning self-

discipline is a life-long process and many children will struggle with self-discipline at various times. Parents and teachers can

give them age appropriate tools to help them practice using self-discipline throughout their childhood. The good news is, the more

self-disciplined children become, the less discipline they’ll need from parents and teachers. When a child takes responsibility for

things like:- to brush his teeth on his own, get ready for school on time, complete class tasks, do his homework, it means less

arguing, nagging and negative consequences. Instead, parents and teachers can focus on teaching new skills and building more

positive relationships.

Social Skills

Do’s

Look for anything about another person that you

genuinely like or appreciate.

Look in their eyes and smile.

Tell them what you like about them.

Tell them what you like about them.

Don’ts

Don’t give a compliment that isn’t true.

Don’t give too many compliments.

Do’s

Wait till the person finishes giving you the

compliment.

Look in their eyes and smile.

Say “thank you” and perhaps add an interesting

positive comment (e.g. Thank you— I’ve worked

hard on it).

Don’ts

Don’t laugh or say something silly.

Don’t look away.

Don’t say something which suggests they’re

wrong. (Don’t say “No it’s not one of my best

efforts’).
