Well another week over! I was very pleased with the District Governor’s visit and was most interested to hear of her plans and the District News and Plans for the Rotary Year. Thank you to those who sent me messages to say how much they too enjoyed the meeting. We are lucky to have such an approachable DG who is open to ideas and gives advice when we ask for it to help in the running of our Club. I look forward to the District Conference in March and now wonder how we will dress our gnome! We will need a name as well…Time to put thinking caps on!!! Congratulations to Geoff Glassock on his well deserved Paul Harris Award…it is always hard to keep these things a surprise for the recipient but we did it! The other lovely task I got to perform was the presentation of the ‘Inspirational Service Awards’ which went to Fred Thompson, Alan Cameron and Bob Templeman. This task was made special by having The District Governor there as well as their families. Very deserving tributes for valued service over such a long period of time. I must also apologise to Peter McTaggart for not acknowledging the beautiful floral poesy he created for presentation to DG Susan at the end of the night. Sadly the microphone had been turned off and not everyone got to see the flowers which Susan loved and actually acknowledged on her Facebook page the next morning to show them off…Thank you Peter! We have a very busy month coming up in September and with quite a few members on leave we will need to step up as much as possible to fill the rosters. Bill has sent out an email and it would be great if you could answer this asap to enable rosters to be drawn up.

THE LAST MEETING At our last meeting we could have named it the awards night, while in the company of guest speaker District Governor Susan Wakefield and PDG John Wakefield. President Margaret and DG Susan first had the honour of awarding Geoffrey Glassock with his Paul Harris Fellows Award. Next came Fred Thompson, Alan Cameron and Bob Templeman with their Inspirational Service Awards. We are very proud of these Rotarians and what they have contributed to communities locally and abroad. It was fitting to see them recognised for
their years of dedication.
DG Susan will be participating in the End Polio Train Ride with her starting point at Emu Plains. Members and the community are asked to help sponsor her ride.
Susan talked about membership and some of the diverse ways to encouraged new members. A Strategic Planning Committee is planned for 6th October, any members welcomed. Also spoken about was the drought and the terrible cost to the farmers, local businesses and schools with Channel 9, Buy a Bail and Rural Aid doing all they can.
Bob Templeman, Fred Thompson, Alan Cameron with President Margaret Bell and District Governor Susan Wakefield

Fellow Award from President Margaret Bell and District
Governor Susan Wakefield
We also heard from PDG John Wakefield about the great work Grace’s Place is doing. The often forgotten children who are traumatised by homicides.
John also had the honour of presenting President Margaret with a new award.
A poesy of flowers made by Peter McTaggart from his own garden was presented as thanks to DG Susan Wakefield

What is the purpose of Grace’s Place? The primary purpose of Grace’s Place is to provide a unique place of healing and restoration for children traumatised by homicide.
It will be a place where they may be guided to believe in themselves and their future. It is to be built in Doonside, NSW, on land made available by Blacktown City Council and Western Sydney Parklands Trust.
The Centre will be named in honour of Grace Lynch, mother of Anita Cobby and will include residential and counselling facilities. It will also be the new Head Office of the Homicide Victims Support Group (Aust) Inc.

Boomerang Bags
In Queensland 2 ladies come up with an idea for material bags to be reused in shops to help with the environment. This idea was received well and it is now happening in NSW. This idea was picked up by a lady in Blackheath and this has now worked its way down to the Lower Mountains. Once the bags are made they are placed in selected shops for customers use and returned for further use. To help keep this project going, members are asked if they could donate the material (.5mt x .5mt) and/or sew these bag.
Pattern packs and training are available and if you can help please contact Lynda Sparkes on
