A W o r d F r o m O u r P a s t o r . . .
Friends,
It has been announced recently that we are exploring
the possibility of changing our worship time on Sunday
morning. I wanted to take a few minutes to talk a little
more about why and invite you to one of our town hall
meetings this month to discuss it further.
One significant reason to consider a change in our worship time is families with young
children. From my personal experience, I know that 9:30 can be difficult at times. The
kids are normally still in bed as I get ready and leave on Sunday mornings, so Katie
graciously takes on the responsibility every Sunday of getting them ready and bringing
them to church. As it often is with children, some weeks are smoother than others.
But, what about the single parent families for whom this is the norm? Did you know that
33% of families within a 15 miles radius of our church are single-parent families? If we
want to be intentional about reaching young families, this is something that we need to
consider. By removing one possible barrier, we are showing that young families matter
to us as a church.
Now, let me be clear about this: nothing has been decided yet. Nothing is set in stone.
We are in an exploratory phase at this point, and in order to do this right, we want to
get as much feedback as possible. That is why we have several town hall meetings
scheduled at the beginning of July, and hopefully you can attend one. Check your
schedules and circle one of the following:
1. Sunday, July 8th, after worship
2. Tuesday, July 10th, 5:00 pm
3. Monday, July 16th, 1:00 pm
If those times won’t work for you, feel free to set up an appointment to come talk with
me in the office, or send me an email with your thoughts and questions, and I’ll do my
best to clarify as much as possible.

COMMUNITY We shall care about and address people’s
needs inside and outside the church. Titus 3:14 Matthew 7:12
First United Methodist Church Core Values
ENCOURAGEMENT We shall bring hope to the hopeless.
Jeremiah 29:11 Romans 15:4-6 & 13
As a congregation of believers in Jesus Christ desiring to faithfully fulfill our mission, we strive to do ministry remaining true to these core values:
STEWARDSHIP We shall contribute our finances, time
and talent to build God’s kingdom.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
PRAYER
We shall privately and publicly commune with God and connect with God’s grace.
Colossians 4:2 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
WORSHIP We shall regularly attribute worth to
God together as a body of believers.
Hebrews 12:28 Psalm 29:2
Our core values act like bumpers on a bowling alley lane. They aren’t our goal or
objective, but as things we value they give us boundaries within which we operate to fulfill
our mission. 14

One of the things we hear, and joke about at times, in the local church is, “We’ve
never done it that way before.” But what if we did? What if we tried something
different? Don’t be afraid of trying something different just because it hasn’t been
done before. Love this idea? Hate it? Either way, let’s talk it out and move forward to
wherever it is that God is calling us as a church.
Grace and peace, Pastor Matt

A lifehack, according to Merriam Webster, is a simple and
clever tip or technique for accomplishing some familiar task
more easily and efficiently. There are plenty of lifehacks out
there! Kitchen hacks, hacks for moms, lifehacks for commut-
ers, and lifehacks for Christians.
There isn’t supposed to be a short cut to God but in a busy
world like today, we could use some creative ways to modify
our Christian walk to experience God in our lives every day.
Every Tuesday (began on June 19th), check out our Facebook page for weekly
“Faith Hacks.” For 7 weeks, we’ll post a new Faith Hack at 9 am every morning for
you to try out for a week!
(For those of you who do not have internet access, we will include the week’s hack in the
Midweek News. If you don’t receive that publication, contact the church office.)

Dear Pastor Matt and Congregation,
We wish to thank you for your prayers following the death and repatriation of
our son – William Jacob Majors Klipsch. During the past stressful weeks, we have
felt the presence of God in our lives, and we know that your prayers helped
bring about that blessing. We are also grateful for the cards of sympathy and
encouragement, and for your presence at Jacob’s visitation and memorial.
Yours in Christ, Lillian and Dana Klipsch
Dear First United Methodist Church,
The Y is now...as it has always been...a place of possibility and promise for all.
Your generous gift to the YMCA Annual Campaign enables the Y to provide pro-
grams like Adult Day Services and low cost meals, VanGo Public Transportation,
Summer Day Camp and membership scholarships and many more programs. At
the Y no one is turned away due to an inability to pay - it is FOR ALL.
Thank you all so much for your kind and generous support of the YMCA and
all we do to impact lives in the community.
- Pat Herman, CEO YMCA
Thank you for your prayers & cards for Marge Lund. She is at peace.
THANK YOU everyone for your dedication to support BACKPACKS OF LOVE FOR
VCSC!! You showing up week after week with smiles makes this mission for the
Vincennes community an easy task. We will again be packing beginning in the
month of September and doing every other month until May. That being said
our months are: September, November, January, March, and May. Watch the
mid-week news, Facebook, and the bulletin for exact dates. Normal time will
be Thursday morning at 10:00. Again, thank you for your time and energy.
