Grandparents DayIt was lovely to welcome the many grandparents and special guests last Friday. This is a great day
in our calendar where we welcome and honour grandparents and the special role they play in the
lives of children. It was great to share and celebrate in the classrooms followed by a successful
assembly in our hall.

Boys' BasketBall TeamCongratulations to our Boys’ Basketball Team and their coach Miss Realph. The team progressed
to the NSW State Finals which were held last Friday at Penrith Stadium. They played well during
the day, winning in the quarter nals 48 – 43 and achieving 4th place overall in the competition-
well done.
Stang UpdateMrs Ellis has been relieving as Deputy Principal since the beginning of Term 3 and will return to
her role as a Curriculum Advisor from the beginning of next week. We thank Mrs Ellis for her
leadership and contributions during her time at Wamberal PS.
School AccessA new fence is currently under construction near our main Lea Ave entrance and will improve
safety for students and security for our school. Once completed, all school access during
operational hours in Lea Ave will be via the school oce. New gates will also be installed in this
fence and provide direct access to the basketball court from the entry pathway. These gates will
be open during peak periods of the day to enable access for students who are arriving and
departing. During open events (eg: Grandparents Day, Education Week…) these gates will also
remain open.
Have a great week.
Deputy Principals' Report
Celebrating Student AchievementDuring NAIDOC Week this year, Koori Kids and the Department of Education ran a colouring in
competition and a short, creative story competition. The aim of these initiatives was to provide
our students with a greater understanding of the importance of friendship and cultural diversity.
This competition was open to all primary school students.
One of our Year 1 students, Macsen R., was one of 20 subcategory winners in NSW. Macsen was
presented with a special NAIDOC Week medallion at assembly last week.
Congratulations to all our students who took part in the competition – the organisers made
special mention about the many creative entries submitted by Wamberal Public School.
GulangFest ArtGulangFest is an event held each year to celebrate Aboriginal arts, culture and student
performance. Last term, students from Wamberal PS participated in an art workshop, designed to
engage them in creating their own personal artwork. From this workshop, ten amazing pieces
were selected as entries to the GulangFest Art Competition. These are now on display at Bateau
Bay Square until the 19 November.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)This week, we are focusing on being safe, respectful learners in grassed play areas. Teachers will
be rewarding students with SRLs for demonstrating safe, respectful learner behaviour
throughout the week.
Mobile Phones and Other PortableCommunication DevicesWamberal Public School acknowledges that some students may need to a take a mobile phone or
other portable communication device to school for a variety of reasons, including enhancing
safety in travelling to and from school. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure the mobile
phone / portable communication device is switched o and stored safely during school hours and
is only used in accordance with this policy. The taking of photographs or videos by students
while at school or engaged in school-related activities (including the school bus) may only occur
with prior permission from sta. Permission may also be required from parents and carers. The
school discipline policy applies to the use of mobile phones and other portable communication
devices and may apply outside of school hours and o school premises where there is a clear and
close connection between the school and the conduct of students.
Parents of students who may need to have a mobile phone or other portable communication
device are required to provide written consent. A copy of the policy and consent form is available
for download from our school website.
Health and Safety Notice: Dogs On SchoolGroundsUnder the Companion Animals Act 1998, dogs are prohibited from school grounds whether they
are leashed or unleashed. The exception to this is an assistance animal (e.g. a guide dog). For the
safety of all students, sta and visitors, please do not bring dogs into the school grounds, even
on leashes. Some children have a genuine fear and it can be quite distressing for them and for
parents, particularly those with very young children. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Other News
Boys' BasketballOn Friday 1st November our Wamberal Public School basketball team played in the NSW PSSA
Knockout competition. Eight schools from around NSW competed at Penrith Basketball Stadium.
Our rst game was against Gilgandra Public School. It was a game played with high intensity and
urgency. Wambi started the game with some great looks at the basketball hoop and started the
game with a string of made shots. Both teams made it hard defensively for each other to get any
easy baskets. At half time the score line favoured Wamberal. Gilgandra played together as a team
and threatened to take the lead on a number of occasions in the second half. Our fantastic Wambi
supporters cheered the boys to a 48-43 victory.
The semi-nal game was against Mount Saint Thomas, a school from the South Coast. The boys
had used up a lot of their energy in the rst game and came out tired and lethargic. In the rst 5
minutes, Mount Saint Thomas had created a ten point lead. Our boys chipped away at the lead,
however it was simply not enough and we went down 50-32.
The third and fourth playo was against Mereweather P.S. The game was played in good spirits
and for the majority of our team this was their last time representing Wamberal Public School in
a sporting event. The objective of the game was to compete and have fun and the boys did exactly
that. The boys played their best, however, lost a hard fought game 56-42.
Wamberal P.S achieved the title of being the fourth best boys primary school team in NSW. Well
done and congratulations to our Wamberal Public School boys basketball team.
