Walworth County Senior Leaders’ Association Minutes May 28, 2019

Government Center The night began with a joint meeting with the group dividing in to six different groups to discuss different ways to improve Bankers Night. After several votes, it was decided to keep Bankers’ Night the same as it has been but have members come up by districts instead of clubs and maybe have some kind of reception afterwards. Jennifer Schell, Lillie Cauffman, Josiah Harder, Caroline Cornelison, Letha Kuecker, Rita VanSchyndel, Sarah Boss, Kristi Plenty, and Emma Jacobson offered to help the Extension staff get this more organized and work out all the details. Business has been slow at the flea markets due to bad weather. Junior Leaders’ Association Meeting Minutes

June 28, 2019

Government Center

Junior Leaders 28 May 19 Meeting Minutes The regular meeting of the Walworth County Junior Leaders Association began with a joint meeting with the Senior Leaders Association. The joint meeting was called to discuss the potential changes to the Bankers’ Night Program and hear the House of Pork Update. For the Bankers’ Night Revisions, we were broken into six groups to discuss four scenarios and how we would plan the event based around the scenario’s parameters. Then we regrouped and heard each group’s proposal, which lead to voting to in order to have two options to choose from. The options were as follows:

Keep Bankers’ Night as is with a few modifications.

To have Bankers’ Night as a separate event after fair.

The majority vote was to keep it as is with a few modifications this year and review afterwards. Following the vote, we had the House of Pork report. The main two points from that was that Laurie asked for both associations to cover the cost of insurance and that the income from the flea markets was decreasing. The Junior Leaders were then dismissed to their meeting. Leo called the meeting to order. Because Josie was not present, Robert led the pledges. Immediately following the pledges, Amanda read the Secretary’s Report. Ben motioned to approve the minutes as read and Rylee seconded. Motion carried. Josiah then read the Treasurer’s Report. Robert motioned to approve it and Lauren seconded. Motion carried. We then moved onto the UWEX report by Janel, which included the following:

Camp Counselor Training: The last meeting before camp will be held on May 30 at the fairgrounds.

Camp: is coming up in two weeks. Camp will be held at Upham Woods on June 11-15.

Dairy Breakfast: will be held on June 15. Those not going to camp were encouraged to help.

Fair Entries: Fair entries are due by June 21. Corrections can be made until July 19 at 5:00 pm.

State Conference: all Walworth County delegates are required to make a report on their experience and

present it at the July 22 meeting.

o The recognition of the 2019 High School graduates will also be during the July 22 meeting.

County Shoot-Off: will be July 13.

Communications Fest/Food Revue: will be held on July 18 from 5-8:00 pm at the Government Center.

Others

o There are a lot of shows in August leading up to fair.

o The updated Awards Policy will be released soon to the club leaders.

Following the UWEX report, Leo asked if any of the committees had anything to report. The answer was no, so we moved onto the Camp Counselor Report that included the following:

The last meeting had guest speakers from Ogle County 4-H camp.

It was emphasized that all camp counselors and C-I-Ts should attend this meeting.

Following that, it was time for the icebreaker which Maya took the lead on. Following the icebreaker, we moved onto the business of old business which was the following:

Drama Fest:

o Maya and Ben offered perspective from the cast/crew side of things. Ben made the following

remarks:

Would have liked to have had a review with the judges like years previous.

o More people were encouraged to participate next year because the more the merrier.

o Event photographer, Josiah remarked that the lighting was better than during Music Fest.

Before we moved onto the new business, Leo asked if any of the clubs had anything to report:

Sharon is going on a tour of a bowling alley.

Sugar Creek had just had a visit from the Fairest of the Fair and decorated a window for Dairy Month.

Spring Prairie had just had a fun night at one of their member’s farm.

New Business

2019 Junior Leaders T-Shirt

o Maya motioned to have t-shirts, and Owen seconded. Leo asked if there was any discussion on the

subject.

o Lauren proposed that we have options instead of just t-shirts.

o Janel proposed that we have order forms if we decided on options.

o Janel also brought up that if it was well organized, we could have options.

o Lillie amended the previous motion to make the t-shirt a long-sleeved shirt. Robert seconded Lillie’s

motion. Motion carried.

o Shirt design will be due by the July 22 meeting.

Leo then asked for a motion to end the meeting. Robert motioned and Marilyn seconded. Motion carried. We were dismissed to begin the annual International Fair.

(The minutes are unofficial until approved by the Association.)
