Staff farewells It is that time of year when we have to farewell staff and wish them well on their next chapter in their lives or careers. We bid farewell to Miss Smith who has done a great job in Room 1.. We are really going to miss her smile that she comes in with every morning and wish her all the best on her travels. We also wish Cynthia Inglis well on her retirement. There are too many things to mention what we are going to miss with the many years of dedication she has shown to WMPS. Cynthia is the heart and soul of our little school and has helped shaped the values we have today. We cannot thank her enough for all her hard work over the years. Kathryn Loveridge is also leaving us and persuing a dream. We will miss her friendly face and the support she offers the students she works with.

Breakfast literally means ‘breaking the fast’. “Skipping breakfast can make kids feel tired, restless, or irritable. In the morning, their bodies need to refuel for the day

ahead after going without food for 8 to 12 hours during sleep. Their mood and energy can drop by midmorning if they don't eat at least a small morning meal.”

(Kidshealth.org)

If children are attending school hungry or encountering hardship, they can’t fully engage with the curriculum, which means they might not achieve the educational outcomes required to succeed. A recent report conducted by research agency McCrindle found that: • 22% of Australian children (more than one in five) live in a ‘food insecure’ household • 54% of parents reported changes in their child’s emotions without enough food, including: • 24% saw an increase in outbursts or tantrums • 24% saw a decrease in happiness • One in three parents living in food-insecure households reported their children don’t have enough to eat at least once per month because they can’t afford to buy enough food • One in five parents living in food-insecure households reported their child goes one entire day without eating any fresh food each week • One in ten parents reported their children go one entire day at least once a week with NO FOOD AT ALL.

Kickstart for Kids, an Adelaide based charity organisation, currently serves around 50,000 breakfasts and 10,000 lunches per week in 350 SA schools. The schools are spread widely across South Australia in the North, West, South and several regional areas. Kickstart for Kids supplies food and drink to WMPS so that we can provide breakfast and lunch when needed. KickStart is staffed by volunteers and relies on

donations to be able to provide basic items to schools. Our SRC voted to raise money for Kickstart by having some fun Games at Lunchtime on Monday, 3rd December. “Children will feel good when they have done good and feel even better when they know how they did it. Do good to feel good.” Wilson McCaskill Play is the Way

On Friday the 16th of November, the kids from Room 6 visited the Kadina

Library and Kindergym. At the library, Lyn Spurling read minibeast stories to us

and we made butterflies. At Kindergym Liz had lots of gymnastics equipment set

up for us and we also used the parachute. We had a great afternoon.

Thank you to Di, Mary, Mark, Kristy and Pamela for coming with us and helping

to keep us safe.
