and by appointment.

Wel c o m e to Sa in t J o s eph Ca tho l i c Ch urch

As the bulletin goes to press the news has just broke re-garding Bishop Thompson’s new assignment. If you were not aware, Pope Francis has named Bishop Charles C. Thompson as Archbishop delegate of the Indianapolis Archdiocese. They are fortunate to get an exceptional leader. Please join as Father Bill, Father Cris and I unite in praying for Bishop Thompson, The Archdiocese of Indi-anapolis and Pope Francis as he discerns the next Bishop of Evansville.

Again, I apologize for not being here for our Summer Picnic. But unlike a few of the Saints, I cannot be in two places at one time. I am certain that all of you did your best to make it a success without me. I share one of the most frequently used sayings by our table waiters “Great, Thank You”. Now that I can cross Alaska off my wish list, I invite you to consider joining me on a tour of Poland and Eastern Europe, September 25—October 6, 2017. There are brochures on the rack of the bulletin board or in the reception area of the Parish Center. Don’t wait till the last minute. We will visiting some of the sites of last years World Youth Day with Pope Francis, without the millions of additional tourists. Check it out. The past week also saw Father Cris start his service as the Administrator of Precious Blood Parish pending the return of Father Gary Kaiser. We pray for Father Gary’s quick return.

TEC (Teens Encounter

Christ) is

a three-

day expe-

rience for

young people. Adults are also wel-

come and encouraged to a"end as

they increase our witness to our

faith while experiencing their own

encounter with Christ.

Candidates can expect to meet

others from all areas of the Dio-

cese, find how God fits in your life,

and encounter the Risen Jesus

Christ.

You can find an applica$on and

more informa$on at h"p://

www.switec.org/ The next week-

end is July 22-24, 2017 at St.

Mary’s Church in Ireland.

MAY WE BE GOD’S SERVANTS FIRST

REFLECTION It is good to love one’s country, but ultimate loyalty is due only to Christ and his kingdom. Na-tionalism becomes idolatrous when loyalty to the nation is more important than loyalty to Christ. Saints Thomas More and John Fisher show us what faithful citizenship looks like. They loved and served their country. But when they were forced to choose between God’s Church and the king, they were faithful to the Church. May their example continue to illumi-nate the path for us, as we seek to faithfully serve our Church and country.

When I was a child I can remember

stopping by my parish or another lo-

cal Catholic church to just spend

some $me in prayer before the holy

Eucharist. We didn't have exposi$on

and adora$on much in those days,

but we were keenly aware of the

presence of Jesus in the tabernacle. I

would some$mes stare at the lighted

candle near it and know that Jesus

was alive.

I had never heard someone speak

about a stewardship way of life back

then. If I am honest, the primary mes-

sage I heard back in those days was

along the lines of we need to be as

good as we are able. Sacrifice was

only at Lent, disciples were people in

the Bible, and generosity mostly had

to do with the collec$on basket and

the poor box at the church entrance.

I even went to Catholic schools!

Maybe the message of stewardship

was there somewhere packaged

differently and I just missed it. It was-

n't un$l I was an adult, and a(er ac-

quiring two theology degrees, that I

understood both with my head and

my heart what a stewardship way of

life really meant. But I look back at

those days and I realize that the

groundwork was laid for me to un-

derstand these things. It was those

$mes before the holy Eucharist that I

began to understand true sacrifice. It

was at those $mes that I began to

understand how ac$ons and reali$es

that seem so simple to the human

eye can be so profound. And it was at

those $mes that I began to see that

true love knows no bounds. What

does the holy Eucharist say to you

about stewardship? Maybe today is a

great $me to reflect on your answer.

K

YO

U Dear Father Ray and the people of

Saint Joseph Church—Jasper,

We wish to acknowledge the re-ceipt of the sum of $15,000 sent to us by you, our Sister Parish in Indiana. This money was shared as follows: - $6,000 was given to Fr. Chepa for the payment of teachers salaries in the collage. - $6,000 was given to Sr. Chukwue-meka for the payment of teachers

salaries in the primary school. - $2,900 was given to Sr. Chimez-ie for the payment of Doctor's sala-ries and purchase of drugs in the Dispensary.

We thank you so much for this kind gesture. We will always put you all in our prayers. May God bless and reward you all.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Sr. Chukwuemeka Uduji. On behalf of Fr. Chepa and Sr. Chimezie

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

"Whoever eats my flesh and

drinks my blood remains in me and I in him." With these words,

Jesus distinguished himself from

other spiritual leaders. He was doing more than offering advice.

He was offering himself: "The

bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." Through

the Eucharist, Jesus provided a

way for his followers to be inti-

mately connected with him, not just with his ideas. When we re-

ceive this sacrament, we are able

to be close to the Lord not only in our hearts, but in our bodies as

well. In other words, we are able to unite our entire being --body

and soul--to Christ.

Unlike other prophets, Jesus did

not just describe a "path" to fol-low. He told people that he was

"the way" (Jn 14:6). He made very

bold claims about reaching spir-itual fulfillment, and one of them

involved receiving him in the Eu-

charist: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever

eats this bread will live forever."

We thus have a choice to make.

Will we eat this living bread? Will we really allow Jesus to become

part of us? If we answer yes then

we partake of true Communion--

we enter into a profound union

with the Lord. But if we choose not to eat this bread from heaven

(or if we eat it without faith or

reverence) then we miss out on

Christ's invitation to unity with him. Instead we would be like

those in the crowd who

"quarreled among themselves, saying, 'How can this man give us

his flesh to eat?'" They thought

Jesus couldn't have been serious about this. But he was. He insist-

ed, "My flesh is true food, and my

blood is true drink." Today on the

solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, may God

grant us the faith to recognize the

true presence of Jesus in the Eu-charist.
