Her presentaon highlighted the issues of how the de- mographics will shiſt and how will we address these changes. Longevity: Though 99% of our human history, average life span was under the age of 18 years. In the year 1400, it was 35 years. In 2020 it is predicted to be 83 years old. Andrea provided numerous graphs showing the impact of longevity extensions. Demography: The number of people over age 65 is expected to grow by 81%. Different regions might show some difference but the overall increase is sig- nificant. Sociology: Independence vs Interdependence. Andrea gave illustraons of the importance of interacon and interpersonal connecon. She spoke of the need for senior living facilies in our area and transportaon consideraons. She also pointed out other concerns, such as federal budget for medical care and senior entlements, where to live, and who will be the caregivers. Mem- bers asked quesons about the prospects for senior living here and also what was being offered by her organizaon, Senior Concerns.

Carol Freeman introduced our speaker today, Andrea Gallagher, President of Senior Concerns. Her presentation highlighted the issues of how the de-mographics will shift and how will we address these changes. Minutes of Meeting

January 19, 2017

Michael Magasinn opened the meeting with a moving Inspirational Moment and salute to the Flag. Dave Burns led us in singing God Bless America. President Robert Bianchi introduced DG Nick Frankle, who remembered his loving wife, Heather, who died recently. He thanked us for our thoughts and prayers, and the gift of our friendship and associations with her throughout the years. Steve Pederson introduced today’s guests. Visiting Rotarians are DG Nick Frankle, and Kimmy Tharpe from Westlake Village Noon club. Other guests are Chris Hanner, guest of Sevak Khodabakhshian; Joyce Pearson, guest of Lois Curran-Klein; and guest of Natalie Yanez is 8-week old daughter Charlotte Rose, being introduced to Rotary early in her life.

Marissa Buss pointed out the papers on the tables explaining the sponsorship opportunities for the 41st Annual Chili Cookoff and Classic Car Show on Sunday, April 30th. Barbara Cornwall said that Community Service Day is approaching, and we are looking for an individual or family who are in need of some help in repairs, painting or landscaping and cannot afford to do so on their own. Barb and her committee will review the submitted es-says. Marc Feigan pointed out the flyers for the STEPS conference on Saturday, January 28th from 9 – 3 at California Lutheran University. Paul Dryman announced the annual Superbowl Football Party at the home of Harry and Maureen Sullivan on Sunday, February 5th at 3:00. Signup sheets are on the tables. Pat McCoy pointed out the flyers for the annual Economic Forecast at California Lutheran University on February 10th. Signup sheets are on the tables or you can sign in online.
