President’s Message
G’day Rotarians Well, the weekend has been an absolute ripper. We started off with the Garden Festival which opened up on Friday and continued until late afternoon Sunday, the Hugh Jenkin Photographic Awards which were well attended on Friday evening, and the Vintage Car Club Rally which we catered for on Saturday evening and also Sunday breakfast. I think we now have a chance to have at least one week’s rest before we become involved with the Max Taylor Awards and then possibly we will not have to do very much until the New Year when we have the Swap Meet. At this point in time, I would like to thank all the Rotarians who were heavily involved in supporting the club and the events over the past few days. Congratulations need to go to Phil Lohrey, Graham Gerlach, John Brown and other Rotarians who were heavily involved in the planning and putting together of the Garden Festival. An excellent display and utilisation of our gardens, and I trust that it has been a very fruitful exercise for all those concerned. With the Hugh Jenkin Photographic Awards, Bob Mackley needs to be congratulated for his enormous effort, and also those who assisted Bob with the framing of the photos. I think Graham and Bronwyn Gerlach also had a significant involvement, together with a number of other willing Rotarians. It’s good to see so many youngsters involved in photography, and hopefully it may lead them onto some career path, or provide an alternative interest rather than sitting behind a computer screen for lengthy periods of time. To the Vintage Car Club crew, many thanks for the unbelievable effort which was put in
on Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening and Sunday morning in providing meals for in excess of 100 people on each occasion. Phil Lohrey and his band of merry helpers which included a number of spouses – well done. It has proven to be a very profitable exercise for the club, wherein we will probably net around $2,000 for the input, or rather the output. A special mention to Neville and Gayle Thomas who were heavily involved with the Car Club, but also had time to assist where
necessary on Saturday afternoon, evening and Sunday morning. Next week, we have an optional night, being the Horsham East Art Show. If you can see your way clear to support the Horsham East Club, please attend, otherwise if not attending, please remember to put your apologies in to Robert Quaele as we still have to maintain our attendance records. I have included some documentation received in relation to Group Study Exchange. It may be of interest and we will discuss at board level. We have also had some documentation regarding Rotary Foundation, with a future Vision Plan Seminar for Saturday the 17th of November in Ararat. If anyone wishes information,

Hannah’s Happenings
6th week: this week I had my first day in year 10. I changed from year nine into year ten because it was a bit too easy. I was pretty excited but there are many nice people. My new subjects are: Photography; Maths; English; Bats, Balls and Walls; Healthy Body-Healthy Minds and Law. I like them more than the ones I had in year 9.
7th week: On Friday I had my Rotary presentation about Austria at the Horsham Rotary Club and I was really nervous. But as soon as I had the microphone in my hand it was ok and everything went on its own and pretty easily. What I forgot to say was, that my Rotary club in Austria is a men’s club - there are only men and that I really like to play the piano and to sing.
8th week: In my first week of the holidays I just enjoyed them. Slept long and afterwards I did something with my friends. We usually went to the plaza or to May Park. On Thursday evening Pam, Mick and I went to Hamilton. We spend the night in a motel and on Friday Mick went working and Pam and I went shopping. It was really cool and I enjoyed it. On Saturday Pam’s cousin came; she’s really funny. And on Sunday I moved to my second family: Debbie, Nelson, Anesu and Itai Gororo. They are really lovely. I had to sit on my suitcase to close it. And it was very heavy. Photo belongs to this week, Horsham show on
Tuesday 9th
9th week: The second week of holidays. well, I actually slept pretty long every day. And on Tuesday I went to Horsham show with Anesu, a friend of her and Nelson. We went on some rides and I became squashed. Although it was cool and I enjoyed it. On Wednesday I
went to the show again, but with my friends. We went on many rides and spent much money. We watched
the fireworks. They were beautiful. On Thursday Kethleen- a girl from school, she will go to Denmark next year with Rotary Club of Horsham- stayed at my place. We watched movies and had pizza and on the next day we went to her house. On Friday I went to Rotary with Tim and his wife Colombina. They are both very nice and I became witness of three people getting into Rotary.
10th week: School again. It was good to catch up with everyone I haven’t seen during the holidays. On Monday after school I went bowling with Petra and the family she was staying with. Petra is from Germany and stays actually in Nhill but she was in Horsham that week for her work experience. On Thursday I went to Petra´s house and we talked a lot and we made a cake called “Danube wave”. On Saturday I finally met Itai, Debbie and Nelson’s older daughter - she’s really nice. Yours sincerely, Hannah
