Later this year, Antonia will be present at the Beatification Ceremony of her son Carlo Acutis.Pope Francis approved the Beatification of Carlo Acutis in February this year but COVID-19delayed the Beatification Mass scheduled for May. Carlo was born in 1991 and died at 15 fromLeukaemia. Like many children today, Carlo did not have the experience of seeing her parentspractise the faith. surprise that for him the Eucharist was his ‘highway to heaven.’ From the moment of his FirstHoly Communion Carlo said, ‘my life plan is to remain always connected to Jesus.’

But he did not keep Jesus to himself. He told others about him especially his friends. He trulybelieved in the True and Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. He cared for the homeless, catechized his friends, he made time to feed the poor at various soup kitchens, he was alwaysattentive to children who were bullied and helped them and he had a big heart for otherchildren who suffered the burden of marriage breakdowns and divorce. In his short 15years oflife, God filled Carlo with the love of his Merciful Heart flowing through his veins from theBlessed Eucharist. One of the remarkable miracles of this young saint is the conversion of hisown mother who will probably live long enough to be present at her son’s Canonisation Masstoo

In our age, secularism continues to wreak havoc and rupture in the very fibre of Christianitywhich is the Church. God has reminded us again through in the example and witness of CarloAcutis he is with his us. Carlo believed this in his young heart as a toddler and he never lostsight of the truths of God taught to him by his nanny. He pursued this truth and met him in theEucharist- Jesus Christ our Risen Lord. Each day since his First Holy Communion Carlo met theRisen Lord in the Eucharist and made the time to spend time with him in Adoration. Sincechurches were opened again, how many of us flock to our parish church to spend time before our EucharisticLord? Isn’t it a relief to be able to be at Mass again and receive Our Lord? Carlo knew this desire for theEucharist and he responded to God’s invitations.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life inyou. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ForMy flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me,and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds onMe will live because of Me (John 6:53-37).”

Carlo was in awe of the Miracles of the Eucharist. He requested his parents to take him to visitthose places where Eucharistic Miracles occurred so that he may document them. Applying hislove for computers he taught got hold of a university-level Computer Science textbook andtaught himself to ‘code’. He then taught himself how to create ‘animation, video editing, making videos with his friends and even dubbing voice-overs on videos of his dogs. This waswhen he was about 8 or 9. By 2002 he had documented 150 miracles of the Eucharist on hiswebsite http://www.miracolieucaristici.org/. It is rare that we can access a website that wascreated by a Saint! His exhibitions of the Eucharistic Miracles have travelled throughout theworld.

Today is Corpus Christi Sunday. Carlo Acutis is a Saint of the Eucharist! Here is a young saintwhose life ‘read like the life of Christ.’ Here is young saint who desired that many come andknow and love Jesus truly present in the Eucharist! Here is a young saint that teenage childrencan identify with. Here is a young saint who will intercede for your young people in heaven.

I invite you check out Carlo’s website and read up on his ordinary life. I warn you though, hemight inspire you to do good things you can’t imagine yourself doing for others. I hope thatas you read his story you too will be touched by the rays of heavenly light.

O Sacrament Most Holy! O Sacrament Divine! All Praise and All Thanksgiving be Every Moment Thine!
