Brother GABRIEL TABORIN was born in Belleydoux in 01/11/1799
BELLEYDOUX belongs to a NATURAL PARK in the JURA MOUNTAINS
This is the Temple of Belleydoux,
consacrated by Mons. Devie in 1833
Inside of the temple of Belleydoux, there is a conmemorative marvel-stone in honour of HGT

Cementery of Belleydoux
The ancient Temple, where BGT was baptized, was placed in the present cementery.
This is the place where was located the Family Taborin’s house.Gabriel teached there from 1817 to 1824
Taborin’s family had a guest house too.They worked as housekeeper, cheese merchant and keeping the cattle.

Ancient church of Oyonnax where Gabriel did his first communion in 1811 the feast of the Holy Trinity
In 1813, Gabriel went to study to Plagne, near Belleydoux
Egraz’s house in Plagne.
Here were located the hostel where Gabriel studied.

In 1815 Gabriel is sent to Châtillon-en-Michaille to begin to study latin.
This is the church of Châtillon-en-Michaille
In Châtillon-en-Michaille Gabriel discovered his lay religious vocation.
Then he decided to come back to Belleydoux
Ancient Bishop’s House in Saint-Claude.In June 1824 Gabriel Taborin left Belleydoux
and went to Saint-Claude to follow his religious vocation.He worked serving the Bishop Mons. de Chamon.
Les Bouchoux (Jura).
This village is located between Belleydoux and St. Claude. Gabriel started a fundation of community, adviced for Mons. de Chamon
Gabriel Taborin and five young men were in Les Bouchoux some days.
After one week of spiritual retreat Gabriel and his companions took the religious habit in this Church.
The name of the new community was Brothers of St. Joseph.

The Brothers of Saint Joseph began the educational activities in La Poyat street, 34 number.
On March 1825, all the Brother left B. Gabriel. He remained alone in the school.
Mons. De Chamon sent B. Gabriel to Jeurre (Jura) on April 1825
In Jeurre B. Gabriel worked as a teacher and as a catechesist
In Jeurre B. Gabriel tried to found a new community,
but the house is fell down.
With the conseil of Mons. de Chamon, B. Gabriel went towards a ancient monastery located in Courtefortaine (north Jura department)
In this convent in Courtefontaine B. Gabriel, helped by F. Roland,
established a small community
B. Gabriel left Courtefontaine becacuse of the dificultties to find resources. It was an isolated place.
In October 15th 1826 B. Gabriel and five novices left Courtefontaine
On October 18, 1826 B. Gabriel and the novices are welcomed in Ménestruel by the Father Bochard, founder of the Brothers of the Cross of Jesus.
B. Gabriel is sent to a school, as a latin teacher, in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne
This is the ancient market place in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne. B. Gabriel felt himself happy working in the same places
that S. Vincent of Paul worked.

After the meeting with Mons. Devie in Genay 25/02/1827, B. Gabriel was sent to Brénod (Ain)
In Brénod B. Gabriel collaborated with the parish priest (F. Charvet, who had been parish priest of Belleydoux) teaching catechism.
From Brénod B. Gabriel went to Champdor in 1827. There he continued teaching catechism. This is the Church of Champdor.
Castle of Champdor. Because of the revolution B. Gabriel had to close the house
of Belmont and came back again to Champdor in 1830.
During one year, B. Gabriel was aministrator of the Baron o Montillet in this castle.
In 1831 B. Gabriel left the castle of Champdor and came back to Belmont.
On 30/10/1827 B. Gabriel was assigned by Mons. Devie parish teacher of Hauteville (Ain). This is the temple of Hauteville
Inside of the Church of Hauteville
This is the school of Hauteville where B. Gabriel taught.Also in this village B. Gabriel opened a hostel in 1828.
Chapel of Our Lady of Mazières, near Hauteville. B. Gabriel organized pilgrimages to this chapel especially with the boys whose were preparing for first communion.
Also in this chapel one Novice took the habits in 1829.

In 1829 B. Gabriel, with the help of Sr. of Lauzière, bought a house in Belmont and established a hostel there.
Temple of Belmont. B. Gabriel lived in this village from 1829 to 1840.
In the entrance of the Church there is a sheet that remind the
presence of B. Gabriel and the Brothers in Belmont.

In 1835 was the first taking of habit of the Holy Family Brothers in this house. Two Brothers were sent to the service of the cathedral of Belley.

This is the ancient convent of the Visitation Sisters in Belley. B. Gabriel and his community thought to
live here but finally it was not possible.

In October 6th 1840, the community of the Holy Family Brothers is established in Chapitre street n. 7 in Belley.
In 1852, B. Gabriel inaugurated this cross on the main door of the mother house

Church of Ars: John Mary Vianney arrived to Ars in 1818
Probably, the fist meeting among B. Gabriel and the Saint Priest of Ars was in 1837
St. Priest rewned the Parish of Ars with his love to God
and the pastoral activities.
This is ancient school of Ars. The Holy Family Brothers arrived to Ars in 1849.
This was the boarding house built by B. Atanasio.
The holy and simple life of St. John Mary Vianney attracked many people.
The Brothers collaborated with the Saint Priest.
This is the basilica that the Saint Cure wanted to build in honour of St. Filomena.
Nowadays a community of Brothers continues living in Ars.

B. Gabriel had written a book in in order to help
pilgrims o Ars to meditate
B. Gabriel adquired the monastery of Tamié (Saboya) in 1856in order to establish a community dedicated to the contemplative life.
In 1856 B. Gabriel lived during several months in Tamie his ‘dream’ of the contemplative life.
Also in Tamie, the Brothers opened a hostel.
B. Gabriel sold the monastery of Tamie in 1861
because of several difficulties.

B. Gabriel traveled to Rome in 1841.
He was welcomed in ‘Quirinal’ by the Pope Gregory XVI
B. Gabriel visited basilicas of Rome…

In 1855, Brothers began their activities
in the Holy Trinity Parish, in Paris.
Santuary of « N. S de la Guardia » (Marsella):B. Gabriel passed through Marsella to go to Rome. In 1864 participated in the blessing of the Santuary.
B. Gabriel was in contact with the abbey of Hautecombe (Saboy)
Hautecombe monastery is located next to Bourget lake.
B. Gabriel usually visited the communities and schools of the brothers.
Once a year B. Gabriel visited the schools where Brothers were working and usually he sent letters to them.
B. Gabriel usually visited Chambéry
Castle of Chambéry in 1860.B. Gabriel wrote a letter about the annexation of Saboy to France.
In the « Hight Saboy » there were some schools where Brothers worked.
A private fundation allows that the Brothers open a school in Massigneu, near to Belley
Mountains of Saboy were « witnesses » of the travels of B. Gabriel.
Montmélian: Brothers had several schools in the valley of Isère
B. Gabriel kept B. Amadeo company in the openning of Saint-Jeoire school.
Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvres:
B. Gabriel and B. Amadeo visited the Brothers of S. Gabriel in 1861
Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvres:It was approached a possibility to join with the B. of S. Gabriel
but finally it did not make.
Brothers worked in the church of S. Martin of Tours.
El HGT wrote several times the rule of life for the Brothers.
The New guide were the latest version in 1858
Few months before his dead, on August 25th 1864, B. Gabriel signed his Spiritual Testament.
B. Gabriel died on November 24th, 1864.He was buried in the ancient cementery of Belley named « La Bouvardière »
In 1929, the grave of the Brothers was moved to the new cementery of Belley, « Les Eplantaz ».
In 1959 the mortal remains of B. Gabriel
were moved to the Mother house’s Chapel
This is B. Gabriel’s grave in the Chapel of the Mother House.
In 1982 B. Gabriel’s grave was put in the entrance hall of the Brother’s house.
On November 22nd 1998, B. Gabriel was buried in the chapel of St. Anna
inside of the Cathedral of Belley.

On December 9th 2004, was making a new tomb to put the urn with the B. Gabriel’s bones.
