Answer: An increase in hurricane intensity by as much as 2-11% by 2100 is most likely as the surface temperature of the ocean increases. Warmer water temperatures allow more water vapor to evaporate into a growing storm. When this water later condenses to form rain, it releases latent heat that feeds the intensity of the storm. This added moisture will also result in greater precipitation rates and flooding.
