Pupils will study option subjects in Years 10 and 11, and we will do our best to make sure they get their first and second choice. Please fill in the form at the front of the booklet and send it back to school by 9 th March 2018

On occasion, too few pupils choose a particular subject and so it is unable to run.

Options Reply SheetPlease select options from the list below and indicate by each one the order of preference, ie 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th choice. We will do everything we can to accommodate your choices as far as possible. However, we cannot guarantee every 1st and 2nd choice. It should also be noted an option will not run if too few pupils want to do it.

Course Content:

This is a History course based largely around lots of practical and creative tasks; wide use of artefacts and different types of media, and visits to historical sites. Proposed site visits include day trips to Warwick Castle, The Imperial War Museum and Blists Hill Victorian Town. It may also be possible to run a short residential visit to the World War One Battlefield sites in Belgium, although this would not be compulsory in order to achieve either of the qualifications.

In addition to encouraging the students creativity and a continued enthusiasm for History, the course will develop pupils’ literacy, numeracy, IT and speaking and listening skills. It will also help them to further improve their communication, teamwork, problem solving and empathy skills.

To achieve the Entry Level certificate students will complete two thematic studies on ‘Crime and Punishment through time’ and ‘People’s Health through time’. Students will also complete two depth studies on ‘Elizabethans 1580-1603’ and ‘Britain: Peace and War 1900-1918’.

Students must then complete a piece of work on a site visit or individual (linked to one of our proposed trips). This final piece of work can be presented using a variety of media so this will be different for individual students, based on their strengths and personal preferences. This will provide the students with the opportunity to improve their independence and decision making skills further, whilst at the same time being fully supported by the staff working with them.
