MARKET SEGMENTS DEFINED

DIY: The “Do-it-yourself” market is

predominantly low resolution

video and low cost. Products

must plug-n-play together.

Price sensitive.

RESI: Similar to the DIY market,

these video products are

installed by residential alarm

companies. Ease of

installation is a must. Price

sensitive.

ECO: Security dealers that install

security and mostly analog

video products for commercial

and residential markets. Price

sensitive.

PRO: Similar to ECO, but mostly

installing IP video solutions

with a focus on integration to

other platforms and systems.

Not as price sensitive as ECO.

• IP compatibility requires software integration

– Check video collateral, FAQs, website, tech support

• Bandwidth

– Internet bandwidth limits video stream quality

13

Video Issues: Be Aware

• More resolution– IP Megapixel cameras

• Video in your pocket– Video apps on smart phones

• Low light, night vision & WDR• Power

– Analog: 12VDC & 24VAC– IP: 12VDC & PoE

• Compatibility -> ONVIF• Distance (Up to 6,000 Feet)

Key Features ExplainedWide-Dynamic Range (WDR)Dynamic range is the ratio of the brightest image that can be captured by the imaging system to the darkest image that can be captured simultaneously in the same video frame. Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) cameras are capable of capturing highlight and shadow detail -including backlit images - in the same scene. Pixim Nightwolf is the premiere WDR solution.

Day/NightTrue Day/Night offers an IR cut filter removal, which is a mechanical method used to convert a camera from day mode to night mode within a few seconds. This enables the camera to see at night in almost pure darkness with resulting night time images in grayscale.

IR IlluminationActive Infrared (IR) illuminators help the camera see at night. As an invisible wavelength to the human eye, the total darkness of the field of view is lit up by the IR to deliver a grayscale image. IR cameras have distance limitations from 10 to 75 feet.

Key Features ExplainedVandal HousingMetal housing that offers vandal resistance. Ideal for outdoor applications that require physical security and protection of the camera.

IP 66 RatingIP ratings are standards for dust and waterproof/water resistance for outdoor mounted devices. IP 65, IP 66, and IP 67 are ratings for cameras mounted outside. The higher the number, the device is more resistance to moister and dust.

Power 12VDC: short distance 24VAC: long distance to central Power Supply Unit (PSU) PoE (Power over Ethernet): IP cameras can use ONE cable for data and power.

Power Injectors – PoE Midspan – distribute power to cameras

• Compression

– H.264: MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC (Advanced Video Coding). Current algorithm for video compression leveraging “I” and “P” frame style technology

– MPEG-4: Old compression algorithm being replaced with H.264

– MPEG-2: Used for DVD video

– MJPEG: Motion JPEG

Key Features Explained

A sequence of video frames, consisting of two key frames (I), one forward-predicted frame (P)

and one bi-directionally predicted frame (B).

Key Features ExplainedSoftware IP cameras require software on various platforms such as: SmartPhone, Tablet, Browser, PC Applications, and VMS. The software is the “glue” that binds the video together.

View and control cameras from just about anywhere: Smart phone, tablet, or PC Store video on a Network Video Recorder (NVR) or connect to other storage devices on the

network Use a Video Management System (VMS) to manage all aspects of cameras, storage and

playback

StandardsONVIF is the prominent standard in IP video solutions. Linear IP cameras are ONVIF version 2.2 Profile S compliant.
