Other people or organisations who want to use QCAA materials must obtain permission, as stated in the copyright notice available from www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/copyright.html.

Queensland school RTOs may use this document to assist with their quality assurance processes and systematic monitoring of RTO operations as outlined within the regulatory Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015. These standards form part of the VET Quality Framework.

About this profile templateThis trainer and assessor profile addresses the VET Quality Framework (VQF) compliance requirement of only using suitably qualified trainers and assessors. It represents how this Registered Training Organisation (RTO) ensures compliance at all times. The Principal requires all trainers and assessors to maintain their profile to an auditable standard.

Who should use itRTO trainers and assessors must submit a completed profile and any supporting documentation prior to the commencement of training and assessment.

How to use itEvidence that must be provided and maintained includes:

trainer and assessor qualification. Usually the TAE40110 or its successor

vocational competency evidence clearly aligned to the specific requirements of each unit

current industry skills relevant to the qualifications and units being delivered

currency skills in competency based training, assessment and learning

professional development in the fields of competency based vocational training, assessment practices and learning.

There are three main sources from which to draw evidence of vocational competency:

1. courses within a tertiary qualification

2. units or modules within a vocational qualification

3. skills and knowledge gained through working in industry.

Once established, vocational competency is maintained through industry currency activities.

Using the tables and in-line text samples below, identify the sources relevant to Section 1 (the qualifications you are delivering) and expand on these in Section 6 (evidence of vocational competency) when completing unit by unit evidence.

Delete unused lines and help or sample text when you have completed entering your evidence/information. Throughout this template, example text is displayed in a grey font.

Add lines in tables where needed.

Use Tables 2.2–2.5 to record tertiary qualifications, vocational qualifications, industry licences, regulated outcomes, and industry qualifications, skills and experience relevant to the qualifications listed in Section 1.

Information provided here is insufficient for establishing vocational competence. Vocational competence (as well as industry currency) must be established unit by unit in Section 6.

Adult education qualifications are not suitable for trainers and assessors involved in validation. A TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor is a requirement to participate in validation.

Section 6: Vocational competency for each unit deliveredThe RTO must have auditable evidence that it only uses trainers and assessors who meet the requirements of the Standards.

For each unit of competency being delivered, provide evidence of:

Vocational competency

Current industry skills

Industry engagement recorded in TAS

Provide customised information that supports vocational competency relevant to each unit.

Evidence may be drawn from any of the three key sources noted in Section 2, but must include greater detail.

Tertiary qualifications: must include course content details and relevance to the unit

Vocational qualifications: must include unit codes and titles, and comment on relevance to the unit

Employment details: must include employer name and employment relevance to the unit

There must be verifiable evidence of industry currency activity relevant to each unit or cluster of units.

Evidence should include:

name of employer and organisation providing industry currency activity

where, when and what took place.

For each qualification being delivered and assessed, the TAS document must have verifiable evidence that the RTO engaged with industry representatives who verified the currency and relevance of the skills of the trainer and assessor.

Evidence in the TAS should include:

confirmation that the trainer/assessor has relevant and current industry skills

a summary of the industry representatives’ comments and recommendations briefly explaining why the trainer/assessor is suitable to deliver the qualification.

Completing the vocational competency and currency tableThe following vocational competency evidence table allows trainers and assessors to provide a permanent record of vocational competency and to maintain a record of evidence supporting the currency of their industry skills.

Keeping up to date with the requirements of industry should include being regularly exposed to industry workplaces, participating in workplace tasks or attending a workplace to experience the latest techniques, processes and resources.

Instructions for trainers and assessors Customise the vocational competency evidence and tailor it to each unit. Evidence for each

unit must be specific to that unit’s performance criteria, skills and knowledge requirements.

Information for current industry skills may be relevant across several units. Where this is the case, the currency information may be referenced as ‘Refer to <unit code>’. See the example listed in following evidence table.

The examples on the next page illustrate a variety of approaches to providing verifiable evidence. Delete examples after review.
